1) This brochure outlines all of the awards made available to graduates of Lake City Secondary School and GROW/Skyline. These awards are provided through the generosity of numerous agencies and organizations in Williams Lake and area.

2) A general application form for all of the local scholarships and bursaries will be distributed during a GRAD meeting in February. ONE single application covers all of the local awards outlined on the following pages. Please note the application deadline of February 28, 2017.

3) A scholarship is a monetary award based on academic merit or excellence in the area to

which the award pertains. 4) A bursary is a non-repayable grant that is made to students who are in need of some

financial assistance and who have maintained a satisfactory academic record. 5) Notification of awards will be made at the graduation ceremonies. 6) It should be noted that awards are only forwarded upon proof of registration (fee

receipt) at some post-secondary educational institutions. 7) Check parental affiliation with unions, private institutions, companies and organizations

for scholarship and bursary opportunities available to dependants. 8) Apply for a Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN). Recipients of District Awards,

Provincial Scholarships, and Cariboo Foundation Society awards must have a SIN. 9) Apply for as many scholarships as possible in addition to the local awards. Check with

Ms. Gobolos (LCSS) or Mr. Franklin (GROW/Skyline) for more scholarship and/or bursary opportunities. Usually your letter of application will be flexible enough, with minor adjustments, to satisfy most other awards.

10) For further information on awards consult the financial aid office or website of the

institution you plan to attend. 11) Submit your completed application to Ms. Gobolos in Room #110 or Mr. Franklin

(GROW/Skyline) by the due date.

February 3, 2017 Doug Hole 640 Carson Drive Williams Lake, BC V2G 1T3 Dear Members of the Awards Committee: Currently, I am attending Lake City Secondary School. I have lived in Williams Lake all my life with my mom, dad, and younger sister. My parents are both teachers and I am a cashier at Canadian Tire after school and on weekends. Academically, I am a very talented student. I have done exceptionally well in all of my grade 11 and 12 courses. I have applied to SFU, UNBC, and TRU and I have received conditional acceptance from all three. I hope to receive either a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree. My future goal is to become a mining engineer. I have a passion for sports and the outdoors. I love to ski in the winter and kayak in the summer. In addition, I am involved in the school sports of badminton, soccer, and rugby. Furthermore, I play rep hockey and I really enjoy reading, knitting, and painting in my free time. I am estimating that I will spend approximately $20,000 during my first year of post-secondary studies. My job has provided me with some funds and my parents will also help me financially. Thank you for your time and consideration and I hope that you will help these plans with a local scholarship or bursary. Sincerely,

Doug Hole Doug Hole
