1 Happy New Year! I hope that 2017 will be a fruitful and meaningful year for you and your family. 2 Bowen Secondary would like to record a heartfelt word of gratitude and appreciation to Mr Bernard Chew, who was Principal of Bowen Secondary from 2012 to 2016. Under his leadership, the school grew significantly and produced students noted for their confidence and achievement. Mr Chew is now Director, Special Education Branch, Ministry of Education. 3 Please allow me to introduce myself: I have taken over Bowen Secondary as Principal from Mr Chew on 15 Dec 2016. Prior to this, I was Director, Pre-school Education Branch, MOE; and before that, I was Principal of Swiss Cottage Secondary (2008 to 2012). 4 I am honoured to join Bowen Secondary to lead and serve the staff, students and parents. In my first few days at Bowen, my first impressions of Bowen students are that they carry with them an air of confidence and achievement. We will continue to care for each student and to nurture and teach him / her to bring them to their fullest potential for learning and for life. School Direction

Bowen FIESTA 2017 7 For a bright start to 2017, we will conduct our annual Bowen FIESTA (Fun, Interactive, Educational and STructured Activities), which comprises several programmes in the first and second week of school: Level Intent of FIESTA Programme

Specially designed activities to develop innovation and nurture creativity as part of the school’s Applied Learning Programme (ALP) and Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP)

Leadership Training

Experiential activities aimed to introduce the Leadership Challenge Model and allow students to understand what it means to be a leader

Sec 3 Leadership Workshop

Experiential activities aimed to cultivate a deeper understanding of the Leadership Challenge Model and how it can apply to the Sec 3s’ roles as leaders

Resilience Camp

3D2N residential school camp for Sec 3s to build resilience, develop confidence as seniors in their secondary school journey and bond as a class through various activities

Sec 4/5 Study Skills Workshop & Visits to Post-Secondary Institutions

Workshop to acquire effective study skills and the mindset to excel in academic pursuits. Students also have opportunity to explore higher education options and visit post-secondary educational institutions
