Message from the Principal
Hi everyone, Works around the school #1: If you have had cause to come up to the office lately you would have been impressed with the handy work of Mr Nowicki and his troupe of enthusiastic gardeners. The fence line outside the office has received their ‘green thumb’ treatment and looks great. Walking up the steps to the office now has a lush feel to it as the brickwork has been softened by the new plantings. It is a treat to eavesdrop on the gardeners as they care for their projects. Works around the school #2: The GA GA restoration has started. It will fit snugly down by the BBQ shelter and will bring kids to a rarely used part of the playground. Works around the school #3: Mr Storr has been working around the clock to re-site the bike racks. Bike riders will soon be parking in their new space. You will need your own chain/lock. Works around the school #4: The retaining wall between the basketball court and the shade sail area built mid last century has rotted out. Work is well underway to reinstate it and already
Mr Nowicki and Mr Storr are hatching plans to unite
forces and replant the area. Works around the school #5: Mr Storr has one more piece of asphalt repair to coor-dinate near the one/two portables and then we will embark upon new line markings for games around the playground.

It’s been a year! It is State Budget time and some communities will have received notice that their school is having an up-grade in facilities, or that they are getting a brand new school in their growth corridor. For us it has been a year since we received notification that we are building a new gym here at Montrose.
Last Friday I attended a planning group meeting that reviewed our planning to date to what I now know as the Design Development phase. The purpose of the meeting was to check that the proposed building can be built within the specified budget. This work was passed. Now the architects are preparing the Tender Docu-ments that will be put out to companies who hopefully will vie to be our builder. Only builders certified by the Education Department may apply. The creation of the Tender portfolio will take at least 8 weeks and the application period another 4. We are looking at the contract being awarded mid September.
