EXPLA N A T O R Y NOTES
The occupations listed i n this Schedule are those i n respect of which i n the general national interests restrictions w i l l be placed i n peace time on the acceptance of volunteers for certain forms of enlistment or enrolment for service i n t ime of war.
The restrictions apply to acceptance for service (otherwise than in the volunteer's trade capacity, or, i n the case of women, i n nursing or first aid services) which w i l l be whole-time i n war but not i n peace.
I f an age is printed opposite an occupation i n the Schedule, this means that the restriction as regards that occupation applies only to volunteers of or above that age.
I f no age is pr inted opposite an occupation i n the Schedule, the restriction apphes to volunteers in that occupation whatever their age.
Nothing i n the Schedule restricts— (a) acceptance for service which is whole-time in peace (e.g.,
service in the Regular Armed Forces, the Regular Police Forces or the Regular Fire Brigades) ;
(b) re-engagement for the same service of a person already engaged i n a service ;
(c) acceptance for whole-time service in war i n the volunteer's trade or professional capacity ;
(d) acceptance for A.R.P. service at the volunteer's place of employment ;
(e) acceptance for service which w i l l be only part-t ime in war, subject to the clear understanding that in the case of persons covered by the Schedule work in the occupation listed in the Schedule wi l l have first claim on them in war-time ;
( / ) acceptance of women for nursing and first aid services.
The Schedule is subject to revision from time to time.
