From Your Pastor……..
I am looking forward to celebrating the advent season with all of you.
Enclosed in the Spire is a list of all our special worship services. When we
gather together throughout this Advent season, it is our desire to see and
treasure Christ more and more. My sermons during this time will focus on
the offices of Christ. God led his old covenant people through three groups
of leaders: the prophets, the priests, and the kings. The Old Testament
prophet spoke God’s words to God’s people. The Old Testament priest
offered sacrifices to God on behalf of God’s people. The Old Testament
King ruled over God’s people on God’s behalf. In the New Testament, we
see that these three offices are shadows of a greater one to come. Jesus
Christ is our perfect prophet, priest, and king. I pray that this sermon se-
ries will help us to understand and treasure Christ more deeply.
I also want to give all of us an encouragement during this season. Dur-
ing this time of year, people who do not normally attend church services
are often more likely to come. So why don’t you invite someone to one of
our worship services this month? As they gather with us they will meet a
group of sinners whose lives have been transformed by the gospel of Jesus
Christ. They will also hear the gospel proclaimed in word and song. Who
knows, perhaps their lives may be changed forever through encountering
Jesus Christ. Maybe you have a friend who doesn’t know Christ or maybe
you have a family member who has been away from church for a long
time. This could be a good time for them to take a closer look at Jesus. I
hope and pray that God will work powerfully in us and through us during
this season.
Grace and Peace,
Jeff
