The purpose of tonight’s meeting isto:

Learn about PVSD SchoolCommunity Council documents,supports and initiatives

Have an opportunity to share

successes and establish networks

Provide feedback and advice to theBoard of Education through focused

conversation

(SCCs) and the Board

Board Policy 17 – School CommunityCouncils

This policy identifies that, “To facilitatecommunication the Board and the Director will develop procedures that allow for all School Community Councils to communicate with theBoard at least twice each year.”

This policy allows for Board members to attendSCC meetings to:

Enhance communication;

Enhance educational governance;

Create networks;

Clarify the Board’s role , protocols,directives and initiatives

It is our hope that we will be able toaccomplish some of these targetstonight.

Roles and Responsibilities

Duties:

● Understand and communicate the

needs and goals for students’ learning in their schools andcommunities

● Develop supports for the school’s

learning improvement plan● Communicate to parents and other

stakeholders about the role andactions of the SCC and the school





Duties:

● Account for the funds that are spent

through the school communitycouncil

● Participate in SCC training,orientation and development

● SCCs should NOT discuss or be givenaccess to personal/confidentialinformation regarding students, staff or families





Other Roles:

● Assist the school, administration orstaff in any initiatives or programs

deemed to assist students in any way● Support improved student learning

outcomes and the school’s learningimprovement plan

● Communicate with the PVSD Board – help to clarify and reinforce theBoard’s role, Division protocols,

procedures, directions or initiatives



Continuous Improvement Framework (CIF)

Four Priority Areas:

Higher levels of literacy and studentachievement

Equitable opportunities for allstudents

Smooth transitions into and through

the system Strong system wide accountability

and governance



PVSD Learning Improvement Plans (LIP)

PVSD Schools chose school goals thatwould impact:

Literacy/Student Achievement(Reading, Writing, Math, Science,Attendance, Attitude, Behaviour);

SCCs and School-Level Planning

Learning Improvement Plan (LIP)

Principals are to share goals withSCCs

SCCs collaborate with schooladministration and staff in developinga plan to support school goals

It is our hope that Principals willshare their results with the SCC andthat the SCC provides feedback forfuture plans
