FADE IN:

TITLE SEQUENCE

HENCHMAN is walking cautiously down Scarlet Avenue with awrapped dead body slung over his shoulder.

FARROW (V.O)Hmm. How he thought he was incontrol. That goon had no idea thatI was following his every step.

EXT. NIGHT - SCARLET AVENUE

HENCHMAN approaches the bridge at the end of the street,FARROW secretly creeps up and follows behind. ESMÉ iswaiting up ahead by the bridge under a streetlamp.

FARROW (V.O)

We started to near a bridge; wherea shady silhouette unveiled itselfas a lady of distinct beauty,impatiently waiting in thespotlight of a near streetlamp. Aswe approached, I hid.

ESMÉYou’re late Rodrigues.

HENCHMANI got held up. Things took longerthan expected.

Places body on the floor.

ESMÉYou shouldn’t have delayed. Romanis not pleased.

HENCHMANWhen is he ever? What’s botherin’the mug then?

ESMÉ

You nearly lead Farrow right to theden. It cost him big to fix yourmess.

HENCHMANWhat do I care? I did my job, hejust failed to do his. I’m theright hand man y’see doll, what hesays, I do.

ESMÉI know, but there’s no point tryingto argue with me. You’ll get yourchance to explain yourself, he’sexpecting after this job thatyou’ll come back downtown and, talkthings over.

HENCHMANHe must be joking.

ESMÉHe never jokes, you know that. Hesaid he’s got another job, paying40 big ones.

HENCHMAN40?

ESMÉ

It’s Farrow, he’s back, and he’scausing bother for sometransactions. Dixon’s breaking outof the slammer this week, and wecan’t have any, problems.Apparently Farrow’s out looking foryou anyway.

HENCHMAN(laughs)

Farrow, that klutz, yea, gwarn then- count me in. Now get outta here,if what you’re sayin’s true, thenyou’re a sitting duck. Go helpDixon, he’s a priority.

ESMÉ moves closer to HENCHMAN

FARROW (V.O)She moved closer to him, andwhispered in his ear.

ESMÉ(whispers in ear)

Be careful.

ESMÉ kisses him on the cheek, then walks away down thestreet into the shadows.

FARROW (V.O)She kissed him lightly on thecheck, his eyes glued to her as shewalked away washing out into themuddy shadows of the Avenue.

ESMÉCya around Johnny.

HENCHMAN starts to lift body up to dump it over the bridgewhen FARROW pulls a gun to the back of his head. HENCHMANdrops the body, injures FARROW and whacks the gun out of his

hand to then grab it himself. FARROW stumbles against theother side of the bridge, as HENCHMAN yields the gunstraight at him.

HENCHMANNice attempt buddy. But you don’tknow who you’re messing with.

FARROWI don’t attempt, and I don’t mess.Especially with scum like you_

HENCHMAN shoots FARROW’s knee

FARROW(intensely, in pain)

I succeed.

HENCHMAN walks up and shoots him.

HENCHMANYou aint this time freak show.

HENCHMAN starts laughing, picks up the original body andthrows it over the bridge.

The title ’Scarlet Avenue’ appears over the ripples in thewater, with the sound of laughter fading in the distance.

FADE TO BLACK.

FARROW (V.O)(pause)

His aim was worse than his laugh,and I heard everything...
