§ Common Search Service was introduced at Scania in 2011
§ A back-end Service, built on open source components (Solr, ManifoldCF, Hydra)
§ Are in used (both index and query) by Intranet and Extranets.
§ Indexed different collaboration tools (MediaWiki, Alfresco, Oracle WebCenter) and external RSS feeds.
§ Looking at indexing Scanias administrative Network Attached Storage (~ 137 terabyte data)

Amount of data is growing - rapidly IDC estimates the volume of digital data will grow 40% to 50% per year. By 2020, IDC predicts the number will have reached 40,000 EB, or 40 Zettabytes (ZB). The world’s information is doubling every two years.
New technical platform's With most new software being built for cloud from the outset, it is predicted that by 2016 over a quarter of all applications (around 48 million) will be available on the cloud (Global Technology Outlook: Cloud 2014: A More Disruptive Phase).
