this competitive world in May 2016.

The institute is affiliated to Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad since

2008. The institute is prestigiously accredited “A” grade (3.06 CGPA) by National

Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC), and National Board of Accreditation

(NBA), New Delhi. The institute offers B. Pharm, M. Pharm and doctoral (Ph.D.)

programs. The institute is approved by All India Council of Technical Education

(AICTE), New Delhi and Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), New Delhi.

The institute pursues the philosophy of perpetual acquisition of knowledge. The

edifice of this institute rests on the mainstay of VALUE ADDED and VALUE BASED

EDUCATION. The institute has its roots and heart firmly laid in cultural values nurtured

by Indian civilization while striving towards the accomplishment of global excellence

in the field of education and research. The atmosphere prevailing in the institute

inculcates a feeling of dynamism, entrepreneurship and initiative in students to cater

to current needs of industries so that they can be pivotal in shaping the future of this

nation in true sense and do not end up as mere job seekers.

The institute boasts of having glorious tradition of producing the gold medalists and

University rankers over the period along with students carving their own niche in

extracurricular activities. We have taken great care to endow them with sound

fundamentals of the subjects complemented with extensive seminar, presentations,

A) Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology

Pharmaceutics is a discipline that today encompasses the traditional areas of industrial pharmacy, physical

pharmacy, biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics. Research programs in the department reflect both the

traditional areas of pharmaceutical research and the evolving area of drug delivery-system research. Our

mission is to foster an interdisciplinary approach to pharmaceutical processing-related research, to catalyze

interaction between industrial and academic scientists and to make the application of a basic science

approach to formulation manufacture of drug products an integral part of pharmaceutical education.

The focus of research of the department is:

Pre-formulation study

Formulation and development of novel drug delivery system

Colloidal drug carriers including targeted drug delivery systems which include nanoparticles,

microparticles, microspheres, nanospheres

Parenteral process technologies

Physiochemical principles involved in formulating stable dosage forms suitable for human administration

B) Quality Assurance

Quality Assurance is the core discipline of pharmacy, dealing with the training of personnel, systematic

measurement, comparison with a standard, monitoring of processes and an associated feedback loop that

confers error prevention. This can be contrasted with quality control, which is focused on process outputs.

Two principles included in QA are: "Fit for purpose", the product should be suitable for the intended purpose;

and "Right first time", mistakes should be eliminated. QA includes management of the quality of raw

materials, assemblies, products and components, services related to production, and management,

production and inspection processes.

The focus of research of department encompasses traditional research and novel recent Risk analysis and

quality by design based research covering following areas:

Stability Indicating Methodology

Analytical Method development and Validation

Cleaning Validation

Bio-analysis and its pharmacokinetic application

Phytochemical screening

Process, Product and Equipment validation

Degradation kinetic study

Dissolution method development and validation

doses. The above can be studied using in vitro and in vivo methods experimentally. Whole animals or tissues

of animals can be used to see the effects of drug molecules.

Animal House facility

The institute is well equipped with full-fledged, dedicated CPCSEA approved animal house facility in the

premises. Different animals like rats, guinea pigs and mice are housed in a controlled temperature

environment. Institutional Ethics Animal Committee has been established and is active to observe and suggest

any modification in the practices adopted at the animal house in accordance with guidelines.

The focus of research of the department is:

To Screen the pharmacological activities of pure drugs, herbal extracts and formulations in area like cardio

vascular pharmacology, immunopharmacology, inflammatory disorders, cataracts, nephrolethiasis, metabolic

disorders, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicities etc.

Equipment available with department: Student’s Physiograph, eddy’s hot plate, Electrophoresis, biopack

system, plethysmograph, histamine chamber, analgesiometer, rota rod apparatus, cook’s pole climbing

apparatus, digital photoactometer, electroconvulsiometer, lagendroff’s assembly etc.

D) Pharmacognosy

The department of Pharmacognosy is nourished by well experienced, conversant and knowledgeable faculty

members to guide and nurture the research activities of the students. The department is actively involved in

research area like Standardization and quality control of herbal drugs and products, to prepare databases for

identification and authentication of materials with well-defined botanical and phytochemical characteristics,

identification of adulterants and substitutes, development of new herbal formulations and analytical methods

for phytochemicals, development of in-vitro testing models for screening of natural products.

Medicinal Garden Facility

Different types of medicinal plants and herbs with requisite botanical details are maintained in institutional

premises. The garden is subjected to periodic technical evaluation and analysis to acquaint the students.

Other Facilities

Pharmaceutical Research Center

The institute has a Pharmaceutical Research Center which was inaugurated by Dr. N. S. Dhalla- Professor &

Director, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada at Shri Ramakrishna Seva Mandal Campus, Anand with

the aim of facilitating advancement of Pharmaceutical education and multipronged development by interaction

of multidisciplinary research activities to cater to the health needs of the society.

The institute believes in continuous evaluation of every student, as a measure of performance, assessment of

knowledge percolation and also a means for motivation. Evaluation is done through mid-semester exams at GTU

level, viva voce sessions, quizzes, projects, minor research projects and practical exams held throughout the

academic calendar.

For evaluation of students studying in GTU, evaluation is done by conducting a mid-semester exam and practical

exam for all the students. Students with non-satisfactory performances (scoring less than 40% marks in mid

semester exams) are subjected to appear for remedial exams prior to appearing for external semester exams

conducted by GTU. For M. Pharm. students, more emphasis is given to groom their practical, presentation skills to

augment theoretical and practical clarity and also the fundamentals of conducting quality research are being taught.

APC believes in developing an individual with strong fundamental and conceptual skills and capability, combined

with a deep sense of responsibility towards other stakeholders and the society and commitment to the growth for

all individuals. APC emphasize that individuals should experience the simulated environment of the corporate world

of technical expertise and decision-making. Accordingly, the learning process involves extensive classroom

sessions, presentation, seminars and individual projects. The class room interaction is the primary vehicle of

learning. It gives strong theoretical and conceptual inputs. The curriculum and the depth of coverage are similar to

that of the best of pharmacy schools. Active interaction and participation of students is encouraged. The current

developments in each of these specific areas are discussed, using articles from reputed national and international

journals. At APC, we strongly emphasize seminar, paper presentations and abstract preparation for graduation

students and project work for PG students, which involves extensive and in depth study of a specific topic involving

research or field work. Periodic presentations also help in enhancing communication skills. Continuous evaluation

through assignments and quizzes help fine tune the concepts already learnt. Thorough understanding of the students

on the practical sessions in the laboratories is ensured and regularly being crosschecked through viva sessions with

the teacher.
