Now is the time to prune! It is important to prune flowering shrubs as soon as they are done flowering so they set bud for next year. Pruning allows the plant to absorb more sunlight, maintain a pleasing natural shape, and prevent the spread of disease.

It’s important to remember that overwatering can be just as detrimental to your plants as neglecting to do so. Although we have had a rainy Spring season, consis-tent and properly adminis-tered watering is the key to a healthy landscape.

Factors to consider when selecting plants for your land-scape include water toler-ance, shade tolerance, and deer resistance. Honeysuckle plants are becoming popular this season; they have a beau-tiful fragrance and thrive in sunlight. However, they have a very invasive vine that needs to be regularly maintained. It has been known to envelope other plants or climb fences and trees so it’s important to monitor their growth and ensure that the vines are contained in their own living space.
