    Making Control with HDMIconnections

    You can use synch r onized o p e r ation fo r a connected TVand u p to five othe r com p onents.

    Be su r e to connect the TVs audio cable to the audioinp ut of this unit. When the TV and r eceive r a r econnected by HDMI connections, if the TV su pp or tsthe HDMI Audio Retu r n Channel function, the sound

    of the TV is in p ut to the r eceive r via the HDMIte r minal, so the r e is no need to connect an audiocable. In this case, set TV Audio at HDMI Setup tovia HDMI (see HDMI Setup on p age 73).

    For details, see Connecting your TV and playbackcomponents on p age 29.

    Important

    When connecting this system o r changingconnections, be su r e to switch the p owe r off anddisconnect the p owe r co r d fr om the wall socket.Afte r com p leting all connections, connect the p owe r

    co r ds to the wall socket. Afte r this r eceive r is connected to an AC outlet, a 2

    second to 10 second HDMI initialization pr ocessbegins. You cannot ca rr y out any o p e r ations du r inginitialization. The HDMI indicato r on the dis p lay unitblinks du r ing initialization, and you can tu r n thisr eceive r on once it has sto pp ed blinking.

    To get the most out of this function, we r ecommendthat you connect you r HDMI com p onent not to a TVbut r athe r di r ectly to the HDMI te r minal on thisr eceive r .

    While the r eceive r is equi pp ed with six HDMI in p uts

    (BD, HDMI 1 to 5), the Control with HDMI functioncan only be used with u p to th r ee DVD o r Blu- r ay discp laye r s o r u p to th r ee DVD o r Blu- r ay disc r eco r de r s.

    The Control with HDMI function can be used with a TV connected to the HDMI OUT 1 te r m inal, but notwith a TV connected to the HDMI OUT 2 te r minal.

    HDMI Setup You must adjust the settings of this r eceive r as well as theconnected Control with HDMI-com p atible com p onentsin o r de r to make use of the Control with HDMI function.For mo r e info r mation see the o p e r ating inst r uctions fo r each com p onent.

    1 Set the remote control to the receiver operationmode, then press HOME MENU .

    2 Select System Setup , then press ENTER.

    3 Select Other Setup , then press ENTER.

    4 Select HDMI Setup , then press ENTER.

    5 Select the Control setting you want.Choose whethe r to set this units Control with HDMIfunction ON o r OFF. You will need to set it to ON to usethe Control with HDMI function.When using a com p onent that does not su pp or t theControl with HDMI function, set this to OFF.

    ON Enables the Control with HDMI function. Whenthis units p owe r is tu r ned off and you have asu pp or ted sou r ce begin p layback while using theControl with HDMI function, the audio and videoout p uts f r om the HDMI connection a r e out p ut f r omthe TV.

    OFF The Control with HDMI is disabled.Synch r onized o p e r ations cannot be used. When thisunits p owe r is tu r ned off, audio and video of sou r cesconnected via HDMI a r e not out p ut.

    6 Select the Control Mode setting you want.Choose whethe r you want to enable HDMI fo r all linkedfunctions o r the PQLS function only. Howeve r , Dis p layPowe r Off will activate the settings set fo r th in ste p 7below.

    ALL Enabled fo r all linked functions. PQLS Enabled only fo r the PQLS function. When

    PQLS is selected, link functions othe r than the PQLS

    function may not wo r k pr op e r ly. If you wish to use alllink functions, select ALL.

    7 Select the Display Power Off setting you want.If the TVs p owe r is tu r ned off while using the Control with HDMI function, the r eceive r s p owe r is also tu r nedoff (all p owe r off function). This function can be disabled.

    YES The all p owe r off function is enabled. Ther eceive r s p owe r tu r ns off togethe r with the TVsp owe r .

    This function only wo r ks when the in p ut fo r acom p onent connected to the r eceive r by HDMIconnection is selected o r when watching the TV.

    NO The all p owe r off function is disabled. Ther eceive r s p owe r is not affected when the TVs p owe r is tu r ned off.

    8 Select the Standby Through setting you want.It is p ossible to t r ansfe r signals f r om an HDMI-connectedp laye r to the TV when this r eceive r 's p owe r is on standbyas long as Control is ON, but the amount of ene r gyconsumed r ises. It is, howeve r , p ossible to minimizeene r gy consum p tion when p owe r is set to standby.

    Normal Regula r setting. Powe r -up time f r omstandby is sho r t.

    Eco Conse r ves ene r gy while standby. Powe r -up time is longe r than when set to Normal .

    9 Select the TV Audio setting you want.When a TV su pp or ting the HDMI Audio Retu r n Channelfunction is connected to the r eceive r , the sound of the TVcan be in p ut via the HDMI te r minal.

    Normal The TVs sound is in p ut f r om the Audioinp ut te r minals othe r than HDMI in p uts. via HDMI The TVs sound is in p ut via the HDMI

    te r minal. This can only be selected when Control isset to ON.

    10 Select the 12V Trigger setting you want. The com p onent connected to the 12V TRIGGER jack canbe tu r ned on and off when HDMI OUT is switched. HDMIOUT 1 , HDMI OUT 2 or OFF can be selected. Select OFF when you want the com p onent to switch when the in p utfunction is switched.

    11 When youre finished, press HOME MENU .

    Before using synchronizationOnce you have finished all connections and settings, youmust:

    1 Put all components into standby mode.

    2 Turn the power on for all components, with thepower for the TV being turned on last.

    3 Choose the HDMI input to which the TV isconnected to this receiver, and see if video output from

    connected components displays properly on the screenor not.

    4 Check whether the components connected to allHDMI inputs are properly displayed.

    About synchronized operations The Control with HDMI-com p atible com p onentconnected to the r eceive r op e r ates in sync as desc r ibedbelow.

    F r om the menu sc r een of the Control with HDMI-com p atible TV, set audio to be p layed th r ough thisr eceive r , and the r eceive r will switch to thesynch r onized am p mode.

    When in the synch r onized am p mode, you can adjustthe r eceive r s volume o r mute the sound using the

    TVs r emote cont r ol.

    When in the synch r onized am p mode, thesynch r onized am p mode is canceled when the

    Switching the speaker terminalsIf you selected Speaker B at Speaker system setting onpage 115, you can switch between speakers using theSPEAKERS button. If you selected Normal(SB/FH) ,Normal(SB/FW) , Front Bi-Amp or ZONE 2 , the buttonwill simply switch your main speaker terminals on or off.

    The options below are for the Speaker B setting only. 1

    Use SPEAKERS on the front panel to select aspeaker system setting.As mentioned above, if you have selected Normal(SB/FH) or Normal(SB/FW) , the button will simply switchyour main speaker terminal (A) on or off.Press repeatedly to choose a speaker terminal option:

    SP A Sound is output from the A-speakerterminals (up to 7 channels (including surround backchannels), depending on the source).

    SP B Sound is output from the two speakersconnected to the B-speaker terminals. Multichannelsources will not be heard.

    SP AB Sound is output from the A-speakerterminals (up to 5 channels, depending on thesource), the two speakers connected to the B-speaker terminals, and the subwoofer.     1 Select the source you want to record.Use the in p ut function buttons (o r INPUT SELECT).

    2 Prepare the source you want to record. Tune to the r adio station, load the CD, video, DVD etc.

    3 Select the input signal according to the signal to berecorded.Use the r emote cont r ols SIGNAL SEL button.

    4 Prepare the recorder.

    Inse r t a blank ta p e, MD, video etc. into the r eco r dingdevice and set the r eco r ding levels. Refe r to theinst r uctions that came with the r eco r de r if you a r eunsu r e how to do this. Most video r eco r de r s set the audior eco r ding level automaticallycheck the com p onentsinst r uction manual if you r e unsu r e.

    5 Start recording, then start playback of the sourcecomponent.

    Reducing the level of an analog signal The in p ut attenuato r lowe r s the in p ut level of an analog

    signal when its too st r ong. You can use this if you findthat the OVER indicato r lights often o r you can hea r disto r tion in the sound. 5

    Set the remote control to the receiver operationmode, then press A.ATT to switch the input attenuatoron or off.

    Note1 If the r eceive r is in standby, the dis p lay is dimmed, and ZONE and you r selected sub zone(s) continue to show in the dis p lay.2 The tune r cannot be tuned to mo r e than one station at a time. The r efo r e, changing the station in one zone also changes the station in the othe r

    zone. Please be ca r eful not to change stations when r eco r ding a r adio b r oadcast.3 You wont be able to switch the main zone off com p letely unless youve switched off the MULTI-ZONE cont r ol fir st.

    Using the sleep timer The slee p time r switches the r eceive r into standby afte r as p ecified amount of time so you can fall aslee p withoutwo rr ying about the r eceive r being left on all night. Usethe r emote cont r ol to set the slee p time r .

    Set the remote control to the receiver operationmode, then press SLEEP repeatedly to set the sleeptime.

    You can check the r emaining slee p time at any time

    by pr essing SLEEP once. P r essing r e p eatedly willcycle th r ough the slee p op tions again. 1

    Dimming the display You can choose between fou r b r ightness levels fo r thefr ont p anel dis p lay. Note that when selecting sou r ces, thedis p lay automatically b r ightens fo r a few seconds.

    Set the remote control to the receiver operationmode, then press DIMMER repeatedly to change thebrightness of the front panel display.

    Switching the HDMI outputSet which te r minal to use when out p utting video andaudio signals f r om the HDMI out p ut te r minals.

    The HDMI OUT1 te r minal is com p atible with the Control with HDMI function.

    Set the remote control to the receiver operationmode, then press HDMI OUT.Please wait a while when Please wait ... is dis p layed.

    The out p ut switches among HDMI OUT ALL, HDMI OUT1 and HDMI OUT 2 each time the button is pr essed. 2

    Using the Web Control function The r eceive r can be o p e r ated using a b r owse r fr om acom p ute r connected on the same LAN as the r eceive r .

    1 Turn on the computer and launch the Internetbrowser.

    2 In the address bar on the browser, enter the IPaddress assigned to this receiver.For exam p le, if the IP add r ess of this r eceive r is192.168.0.2, ente r htt p ://192.168.0.2/.When the connection is made with the r eceive r , a TopMenu will be dis p layed.

    P r oxy menu ( p age 117).3 Once the Top Menu is displayed, click the button forthe zone you want to operate.

    4 Operate from the screen for the individual zone. Even when the r eceive r is in the standby mode, it can

    Checking your system settingsUse the status dis p lay sc r een to check you r cu rr entsettings fo r featu r es such as su rr ound back channelpr ocessing and you r cu rr ent MCACC pr eset.

    1 Set the remote control to the receiver operationmode, then press STATUS to check the system settings.

    Two-way communications allow you to use the followingfunctions:
