Man in his natural state is totally unable and
totally unwilling to know God, love God or
receive God.
As a matter of fact this man is hostile to God,can not subject himself to the law of God and
cant please God at all.

the heart.
Regeneration is a secret act of God in which he

Rescued in Christ
The bad record (external) must be replaced by a perfect record
Someone has to pay for your sin
Someone has to satisfy justice for you
The Lord Jesus saves people from their sins;
He saves them from the penalty of their sins
He save them from the power of their sins
1 Peter 2:24
and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that wemight die to sin and live to righteousness
In regard to the penalty of sin we call this justification

Rescued in Christ
Justification is an instantaneous act of God in which He thinks of
our sins as forgiven and Christs righteousness as belonging to us.
In so doing He declares us to be righteous in His sight.
Jesus Christ pays a debt that He did not oweBecause we owed a debt that we could not pay

What does Gods rescue plan look like for mankind?
We must understand that the entire PLAN of the Bible is theunfolding and progressive redemption (rescue) of mankind.
Kingdom of God
Covenants of God
This morning we are going to discuss 3 types of rescues
1. We are Rescued by the Life, Death and Resurrection of Jesus
Christ
2. We are Rescued by the Grace and Love of God
3. We are Rescued by the Righteousness of Christ

We are Rescued by the Life, Death and Resurrection of Jesus
Christ
Turn to 1 Peter 1:18-21:
For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver
or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed
down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of
Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20 He was chosen before
the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for
your sake. 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from
the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
When Christ died for us on the cross, He paid the price for our sin
that we could not pay for ourselves. God presented Jesus Christ to be
a propitiation (satisfaction) for our sins so that they might be atoned
for by the blood of the Lamb of God.

Jesus was the only person that could satisfy Gods wrath because
Jesus was the only perfect person that was without sin. Peter writes
that Jesus blood was precious and that he was without blemish ordefect. No other person can make this claim. It was only the perfect
blood of Jesus that could rescue us from sin and death.
At the death of Jesus, God demonstrated that His hatred of mans
evil is as real as His forgiveness of mans sin. God did not spare HisSon the full magnitude of the judgment that we deserve. The only
way God could save us and be consistent with His own justice and
holiness was the way He did and it cost Him everything His only
begotten Son. Jesus bore the entire wrath of God for our sin that we
might experience His mercy.

We are Rescued by the Grace and Love of God
1 John 4:16 tells us that God is love. As we have seen earlier inthis series, God demonstrated His love in the fact He created us.
But the fullest expression of Gods love came in Christ.
John 3:16 states: For God so loved the world that he gave his one
and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but
have eternal life.
There is a reason this is the most famous verse in the entire Bible.
It shows how Gods love is at the very heart of the gospel.

Gods grace and love are two sides of the same coin.
His love is expressed in the fact that He sends Christ to take on the
punishment of our sin.
This is the heart of grace that God would give us something that
we do not deserve His love.
Ephesians 2:8 states: For by grace you have been savedthrough
faith; and that not of yourselves, ITis the gift of God; not as aresult of works, so that no one may boast.
When we see ourselves as dead in trespasses, under the bondage of
Satan and deserving the wrath of God, it is only grace that brings
new life in Christ and gives you eternal life. When grace piercesour heart we become the children of God.
Salvation is all grace. God does it all.

We are Rescued by the Righteousness of Christ
In the last ten verses of Romans 5 (vs. 12-21), Paul compares andcontrasts the sin of Adam and the righteousness of Christ.
Romans 5:12 states that: Therefore, just as sin entered the world
through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death
came to all people, because all sinned
Sin entered the world when Adam disobeyed God and ate of the
tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God gave the warning and
Adam strayed from the command and acted in disobedience.

Fortunately, Gods provision of salvation through Christ is for all
who believe on Him.
Turn to Romans 5:17-19:
Here we see the incomparable work of Jesus, who Paul calls the last
Adam. The sin of the first Adam brought alienation and death. But
the righteousness of Christ brought reconciliation and life. It not
only did away with death but restored all that was lost. We now
have knowledge of God, fellowship with God, and the life of God.
Moreover, the trespass of Adam brought death once, the sacrifice
and death of Jesus Christ brings life a thousand times. - Ray
Stedman. When we believe on Christ, God imputes (counts) Hisrighteousness to us.

How Mankind Experiences the Rescue
As we have seen, our rescue was entirely from God because of his
great love and grace that He lavished upon us. It was only possiblyby the perfect righteous life of Christ and His sacrificial death on
the cross. With that as a foundation for the rescue we have in
Christ, we will not examine how mankind experiences that rescue.
We are Rescued by Faith, Apart from the Law:Paul states in Romans 3:21-22:
21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been
made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This
righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all whobelieve.

Paul says that our rescue or justification (which means that we are
legally declared righteous before God and innocent of our sin) is
apart from the law (Romans 3:21). When Paul talks about the law,he is referring to human good works that would lead to
salvation. But he states that this is not possible. Human
righteousness never comes close to divine righteousness. We all
fall short of the glory of God. We cannot be legally declared
righteous by good

Our Rescue Brings Peace:
In Romans 5:1-2, Paul declares that:
1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom wehave gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.
Before we were Christians, we had not even the faintest chance for
real peace because we were alienated not only from God but fromour fellow mankind. No amount of self-improvement could assist
us. We were helpless. However Colossians 1:20 tells us, when we
believed, God gave us peace with Himself through the blood of the
cross. Through our reconciliation with God, we can receive
reconciliation with one another. Whereas previously it was utterlyimpossible to experience true inner peace because God was not at
peace with us, it is now ours because of the Prince of Peace.

Conclusion
Mankinds greatest need is to repent and believe in Jesus Christ tobe set free from our bondage, penalty, and sin. There is
forgiveness only through Jesus Christ.
To be rescued and forgiven comes through the death, burial and
resurrection of Christ.
