  • This is one of Don Bosco’s, founder in 1859 of the congregation ofSalesian Priests and Brothers, most important statements aboutworking with young people.

St John Bosco has a special place in the life of the Catholic Church, not only as a saint but also as a visionary educator. He sought tobring the love of God to young people, many poor and without workor education, so that they would know that they were valued andrich in potential. This he did though practical action taking thehomeless into his own house and through the provision ofaccommodation, the teaching of trades, schooling, and academiceducation for the more able. His motivation was not just to makethem ‘honest citizens’ able to earn their own living; he was driven bya passion to save souls, to educate young people in their Christianfaith and to challenge them to holiness as exemplified by his studentSt Dominic Savio, the name adopted by Savio Salesian College.

What’s special about Savio Salesian College?

As a Salesian school we are part of a community of 3,200 Salesianschools operating in 130 countries. In 1887, 130 years ago the firstSalesians came to England. In 1964, Salesian College, a boys’Grammar school with 64 students opened on Stanley Road, Bootle. In 1966 the Salesian College of St. John Bosco opened on this site, eventually becoming Savio Salesian College in 1987 after anamalgamation with St Augustine’s Girls school. In 2017 wecommemorated our 50th anniversary on this site.

And so in this increasingly secular world we find ourselves in, we are proud to be part of a worldwide Catholic Salesian communitythat has the young people ‘our future’ at the heart of its Mission and Vision.

And so we strive to keep alive the charism of Don Bosco and hisbelief in the goodness of God, and we endeavour to give ourstudents what they need for life. We also actively work to ensurethat our students understand the goodness and love of our God.

‘We strive to keep alive thecharism of Don Bosco’

The Student Transition Team understands theissues that students face when they reach keypoints here at Savio Salesian College.

Their work ensures that new Year 7 students arefully aware about what is expected of them as,most importantly, they know to whom theyshould go to if they have a problem that needsto be solved or some friendly and experiencedadvice on what they should do whenever theyare unsure.

Moving from one year to the next has to be asseamless as possible so that students feelconfident about themselves and then reachtheir full academic potential. Each Head of Year, along with their team of form tutors, are alwayson hand to support students when needed andalso to celebrate their successes as they gothrough the year.
