Delegateswill see how brown coal isextracted in an open-castmine (HRABAK) and howthe negative effects ofmining in the region havebeen removed in a non-traditional way (hippodrome ona recultivated dump) by the MostCoal Company, JSC. Environmentalprotection of the area affected by coalmining will be demonstrated by theexample of the transfer/ relocation of aGothic church from the mining area to thenew town of Most.

HRABAK OPEN CAST MINEThe HRABÁK mine is the second largest open cast mine in theCzech Republic. In 2000, about 7.2 million tonnes of brown coal atan average heating value of 11,300 kJ/kg was mined there by acontinuous extraction method. The coal goes mainly to the nearby1,000MW POCERADY Power Plant.
MOSTMost is a Czech royal town which was established in the thirteenthcentury. It has been a centre of mining in the North BohemianLignite Basin for almost 150 years. Coal brought progress to the townbut led to the destruction of its old part. The oldest part of the towngave way to mining in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

Payment detailsThe best method of securing your hotel room is by credit card, which actsas a guarantee of your reservation and will only be debited in the case ofnon arrival. However, other methods of payment are listed below.
Deposit: A guarantee via credit card, or a deposit of £175 per room payable bycheque (drawn on a UK bank) or bank transfer. No rooms can be confirmeduntil your credit card guarantee or hotel deposit has been received, after which avoucher will be forwarded to you. Your credit card will guarantee your roomreservation; if instead a deposit is paid, this will be deducted from your hotel billupon presentation of the voucher at the hotel reception desk. Cancellation: Notification of cancellation should be sent in writing toCoaltrans Conferences. An administration cost of £20 per room will becharged for cancellations received before September 22, 2001. Forcancellations received after September 22, 2001, £175 may be charged unlessthe room is re-booked. Every effort will be made to re-book the room.
Refunds will be dealt with after the conference. If the date of departureoccurs before the original departure date booked, the hotel is allowed tocharge you for the unused dates.
