SAVE THE DATE!
We have reserved May 4th for
PCJH to build with the Habitat for Hu-
manity of the Greater Teton Area! The
houses that we will be working on are
being dedicated to 4 families who have
all been working hard building their
homes and preparing to be homeown-
ers. The plan is for the volunteers to
arrive at 8:50 AM for sign in and a
safety orientation. We will break for
lunch at noon and resume building until
4:30 pm. Even if you can only join us
for the morning please plan to be part
of the PCJH team as we exercise the
"GO" component of our "GATHER,
GROW & GO" mission.
There's a role for everyone as Habitat will train those of us who are
"construction challenged" or you can support the team by providing items for
lunch. It should be a great day of PCJH fellowship.
If you are interested in participating please contact Roy Kinsey
at [email protected] or Bob Kopp at [email protected].
A Word from Pastor Paul Hayden
Howdy Everyone.
Greetings in the name of the Risen Lord.
Jesus Christ is risen today...Hallelujah. I trust
you had a joyful Easter celebration wherever
you may have been.
Easter is the center of our faith. We under-
stand truth in both directions from that resur-
rection moment. What do I mean? Looking
backward from the resurrection we understand
that Easter was God's verification on the
sinless life, the teaching, the authority, and the
death of Jesus that atones for our sins. If he
had not been raised, all those things would
have been nullified and Jesus would have been
written up as another religious kook (if he
would have been remembered at all). In addi-
tion, we who have chosen to follow Jesus
would be the most pitied of all religious people
because we would have put our faith in a lie
(1 Corinthians 15:18-20).
As we look forward from the resurrection, life
changes. Because Jesus rose we have confi-
dence that the one we follow is the Son of
God, “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Our
goal to GROW to know and follow Jesus is not
just "nice words" but a statement of deep belief
because the resurrection affirms that Jesus
lived life as God intended life to be lived.
In addition, we have a solid hope that this life
is not the end but the prelude to the eternal life
we will have in God's presence. Jesus promised
"I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to
prepare a place for you, I will come back and
take you to be with me that you also may be
where I am" (John 14:2-3). Just as Jesus rose to
new life so shall we. Just as Jesus lives now in
the presence of God, so shall we when we join
him in eternity in the "place" he has prepared
for us. Because of this promise we need not
hold onto this life as the be all and end all of
existence. We can rise above the cares of this
world because "This world is not my home, I'm just
a-passin' through" as the old gospel song used to
say. This also means that we have hope that our
loved ones who have preceded us in death in
Christ are experiencing that reality today.
Because we follow the resurrected Lord, be-
cause we have hope about our eternal destina-
tion, the focus of our lives can change from
the temporal to the eternal, or, as Jesus said,
"Lay not up for yourself treasures on
earth, where moth and rust destroy and
where thieves break in and steel. But store
up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where moth and rust do not destroy and
theives do not break in and steal. For
where you treasure is, there your heart will
be also (Matthew 6:19-21).
In the weeks that lie ahead between Easter and
Pentecost (the celebration of the coming of the
Holy Spirit), we will be looking at 6 traits of
those folks who are Easter people, whose goals
transcends this world and who live, who focus
their sights on eternity. I pray you will be able
to join us in worship and study as we continue
to celebrate the Risen Christ and allow him to
transform us through the work of the Holy
Spirit.
Walking with you in the faith.
Pastor Paul
PS. Some of you have asked about our hiring
of a new Coordinator of Congregational Life.
I am pleased to announce that Pamela Flores
has been hired to fill that role and will be be-
ginning on Sunday, April 14. Welcome on
board, Pam.
Dear PCJH Family,
Holy Land Trip
By the time you read this, I will be on my way to Israel.
This is my first pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I am so ex-
cited to walk where Jesus walked and to see the places
where the stories in the Bible took place!! I have a feeling
this trip will make my faith come even more alive than it
already is. I have always wanted to go to the Holy Land
and I think now is a great time as I am beginning my career
in pastoral ministry. I will be traveling with a group from
Faith Based Expeditions, led by my former college pastor,
Mike Gaffney, who has been a mentor in my life and minis-
try. People that know Mike call him Gaff. Gaff is the Na-
tional Director of Young Life College Ministry. He is an
incredible man of God who was instrumental in leading me
to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ while I was a col-
lege student at the University of Washington. Gaff also
officiated at Addie and my wedding seven years ago. I
hope to learn from Gaff as he leads our group of 25 people
from Tel Aviv to Caesarea, Nazareth, Tiberius, Capernaum,
the Sea of Galilee, Jericho, the Dead Sea, Bethlehem and
finally to Jerusalem. This will be his fifth trip leading a
group to the Holy Land and I know I will learn a lot from
Gaff as I envision what it will be like to lead a group from
PCJH to the Holy Land in the next year or two. That’s
right! Lord willing, I plan on leading a group of people
from PCJH to the Holy Land in 2014. If you are interested,
please let me know so that I can evaluate if there is suffi-
cient interest to plan a trip. Please keep me and my group
in your prayers as we travel to Israel and through the Holy
Land from April 2nd-13th. Upon my return, I plan on pre-
senting a slideshow on a Sunday morning at 9:00am for
anyone who wants to learn more about my experience.
Agros Nicaragua
Please also keep our third Agros Nicaragua service team in
your prayers as they travel to Central America to spend
time with our friends from Tierra Nueva from April 13th-
21st. There are 13 people on the team and they are excited
to see the progress that the villagers have made since No-
vember. Please keep our service team in your prayers as
they continue to build relationships with the villagers in
Jesus name.
Spring Brunch to Support HS Mission Trip
Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 14th for our annual
spring brunch to support our high school mission trip stu-
dents who are heading to New Jersey in June to help with
Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. The brunch will be in the
PCJH Fellowship Hall at 9:00am and again at 11:30am. This is a great way to fellowship with others from PCJH
while supporting our hard working students in a good cause
that will transform lives.
Acquire the Fire
PCJH is partnering with the Jackson Hole Youth Alliance
(which consists of all the other youth groups from churches
in JH) to organize a group of middle and high school stu-
dents to attend Acquire the Fire in Denver from April 26th-
28th. Acquire the Fire is an annual youth rally with the pur-
pose to inspire and challenge young people to follow Jesus
Christ. There will be bands and preachers from all over the
nation in order to proclaim the gospel in a relevant way to
our young people. If your middle or high school student is
interested in attending, please have them contact Preston
Gordon at [email protected]
First Communion
I will be teaching a first communion class on Sunday, April
28th at 9:00am. This class if for parents and their children
eight years old and up. The purpose of the class is to teach
children and parents about the meaning of the Lord’s Sup-
per. This is one of the milestones in our Milestones Minis-
try. It is also a wonderful opportunity to partner home and
congregation as parents take an active role in helping teach
their kids about the Lord’s Supper. The following Sunday,
the first Sunday in May, we’ll invite all the children who
participated in the class to receive communion on Com-
munion Sunday. If you are interested, please RSVP with
me at [email protected]
Parent’s Night Out
The final Parent’s Night Out of the academic year is Friday,
May 3rd from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Parents, please RSVP
with Erin Abel at [email protected]. Also, if you are a young
adult, an empty nester, or someone who doesn’t have chil-
dren, please consider helping volunteer for Parent’s Night
Out.
CYF Director of Discipleship Search Update
The search committee for the Director of Discipleship for
CYF continues to make great progress. We have officially
closed the position and are no longer accepting any more
applications. Overall we have received over 30 applica-
tions and we have narrowed it down to a few top candi-
dates. We hope to interview our two final candidates in-
person during the months of April and May. Please keep
the committee and our candidates in your prayers as this is
a very important position in the life of PCJH and the future
of our children, youth and family ministries.
Faithfully, ~ Pastor Ben

God’s Little Lambs
Happy Earth Day!
Welcome to spring everyone! We are ex-
cited at Little Lambs to see trees budding,
grass sprouting and snow melting all across
the valley. We enjoyed a fun 2 week spring
break as many of our Little Lambs friends traveled all over. We will be planting our
own seeds this month as we prepare to
garden in May and learn our April bible
verse "go and make disciples of all na-
tions," Matthew28:19.
We hope spring brings you a season of re-
freshment and beauty!
Love ~ Mrs. Erin
Hi, my name is Diane
McGee, and I am one of the toddler
teachers for Little Lambs, the Di-
rector of Jesus Oriented Youth
Summer Camp, and the administra-
tor for Children, Youth and Family.
This February, I was blessed to be
able to attend a retreat at Ghost
Ranch, in Abiquiu, New Mexico.
This beautiful, remote, and rustic
ranch was given as a gift to the
Presbyterian Church by Arthur
Pack and his wife Phoebe in 1955.
It operates year round as a retreat
and educational center for individu-
als and for families. I highly rec-
ommend that you check it out!
The retreat began when I
arrived after sunset at this high
desert landscape. I was welcomed
by a clear expanse of sky filled
with stars, an adobe dwelling place
called Casa del Sol, and ten others
all called to be there to “Listen for
God.” This group of pilgrims and I
gathered each morning to pray
together and reflect on various
scripture and writings. During our
afternoons, we were encouraged to
have “a time apart, a time to be
alone with God… in order that we
might find again, and strengthen,
the person we are before God.” It
was crystal clear to me that being
still and listening for God takes a
lot of patience and a little practice!
Evenings were spent reconnecting
with music & prayer and sharing
reflections from our time listening
for God.
Insights from the times alone,
in pairs, and as a group abound!
Here are a few that I would like to
share. Listen for God: I want to
listen for God’s voice and hear of
His desires and plans for me. Yet
also, how can I help to be the ears
of God? Listen for Him: for the
voices of His children in need. As
you go about your day, do you
notice your heartbeat? Can you
hear your breath moving in and
out? Usually, we are unaware of
these functions that keep our body
alive and well. So too is it with
God. He is an essential part of us –
always present and filling us with
life. Do the burdens of this life
ever feel heavy? Do mistakes of
the past, big or small, bring your
spirits down? Remember that you
are a child of God – give yourself
compassion, ask for and receive
Jesus’ forgiveness, and care for
yourself. You are loved. The more
centered you can be – with God at
your center – the more easily you
can see God in others.
Blessings ~ Mrs. Diane

“Prayer Blankets” for Graduating Seniors!!! By Teresa Nye
Last year my daughter, Alexandra, was preparing to graduate from Jackson Hole High School. In
church on a Sunday in May, I read in the PCJH bulletin that the church wanted to make “Prayer
Blankets” for graduating seniors, on a Saturday, in two weeks. When Saturday came, I was busy but
since I like to volunteer, so, I thought I would go down to ‘help” make some “Prayer Blankets” for
the seniors (not really knowing what I was getting myself into). As I walked into the Genesis Room,
Barb Huhn was there with 4 or 5 other parents and grandparents. She said, “Are you ready to make
a “Prayer Blanket” for your graduate?” I said, “Sure?” She said, “Boy or girl? “Girl”, I uttered.
Others were already at tables cutting large pieces of fleece fabric and looking very intent. Barb
showed me a table of fleece to choose from and as I walked up to the fleece, she said, “What color
would she like?” I saw a polka dot pattern and thought, yes, Alex would love that, and it was so soft!
Then I had to pick another “solid” color to go on the reverse side.
Barb had tables all set up complete with scissors and ruler and instructed me how to create this
blanket for my “Alex”. As I started to cut the fleece, I was reflecting on Alex’s journey…of her
birth, preschool, elementary, middle school at Claire E. Gale in Idaho Falls, our move to Jackson, the
many plays she performed, church camps, mission trips and now she is graduating from Jackson Hole
High School and off to college! I started to cry. Barb came up to me and said, “Pray for Alex as
you are making her blanket.” So, with each knot I tied, I said a prayer and reflected on her 17
years and now her next step…graduating, flying the coop, and going of to college! When the blanket
was finished, I was covered with fleece and the blanket was so soft and beautiful, just like her.
Barb then took all the completed blankets and said that the parents/grandparents will present them
to their graduates in two weeks at the 10:15 Sunday Service, as a surprise!
Sunday came and all the “Prayer Blankets” were on the communion table. Toward the end of the
Service, Pastor Paul called the seniors and their parents up. Alex looked over to me and saw that I
had a tear in my eye and smiled…knowing that I had made one for her. All the seniors introduced
themselves and stated where they were going to College. “ELON University”, Alex said, with pride.
Then the blankets were passed among the congregation and I watched in awe as each person, prayed
over the blankets. I thought to myself, this is one of the best things I have ever done for my
daughter.
After church a new member of the congregation came up to me and said, I am from the Raleigh,
Durham area, we live out here part time and if there is anything your daughter needs while at
ELON, please have her call us! What a Blessing!
Flash forward 4 months….Parents weekend at ELON University…Alex’s dorm room. As I went into
her room for the first time and saw where Alex was living for the past four weeks, there was her
“Prayer Blanket!” I said, "I didn’t know you packed that!” She said, "I wouldn’t have left home with-
out it!"
Barb Huhn, will be working her magic again this year, sometime in May. Watch the bulletin for the
announcement…but whatever you do, don’t miss this opportunity to do something very special for
your graduate!
Please visit the church website to view these beautiful prayer
blankets in color.
Last month, Karen Fox shared with you her experience as PCJH’s representative at the Presbytery of Wyoming. Our
Presbytery consists of all the Presbyterian Churches in our state, 30 in all. The smallest has about 12 in worship on Sun-
day. The largest have between 250 and 300, 3 of us. Together we pray for and encourage each other and join forces to
accomplish greater things than any one of us can accomplish on our own. The Vision Statement for our Presbytery is
“Living to Make Christ Known as we Care, Connect, and Challenge One Another.”
Over the past few years the Presbytery has asked how we can grow into the future God has for us. At our May 2012
Presbytery meeting, the state representatives unanimously voted to pursue a Futuring the Faith Initiative. Using the 3C
formula they set forth and accepted the following goals as presented in their fund raising brochure:
WE CARE: As Presbyterians in Wyoming one of our top concerns is caring about and for each other. We want each con-
gregation to be vibrant with faith in Jesus Christ that can be shared with a world in need. Therefore,
A goal of Futuring the Faith is to provide leadership training to local churches to enliven their ministry; and
A goal of Futuring the Faith is to assist in revitalizing congregations who want to make significant changes to their local
ministry and reach their communities with the Good News.
WE CONNECT: Internet technology is the communication revolution of the 21st century and the communication medium
of the next generation. Connecting church members, Presbytery teams, and our curious communities with and through
new technology is vital to our health and growth in a rapidly changing world. Therefore,
A goal of Futuring the Faith is to equip local congregations in the use of modern technology for better internal communi-
cations as a congregation and Presbytery, and better outreach to a world in need of hearing the good news.
A goal of Futuring the Faith is to streamline committee work of the Presbytery by using technology for video and visual
conferencing whenever possible saving time and money.
WE CHALLENGE: It is no longer enough to be a loving body of Christians and hope that new folks will gravitate to us.
We must reach a new generation with the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Therefore,
A goal of Futuring the Faith is to grow an increasingly effective camping and outdoor ministry, a primary place where
young people commit their lives to Jesus Christ; and
To connect congregations in mission beyond our communities and state. Connecting in mission work is a means by which
our faith deepens and our love for one another grows.
OUR REQUEST: The Presbytery of Wyoming is excited about our future. We are committed to:
Empowering local congregations;
Deepening our faith through mission beyond our local church;
Increasing our ability to communicate;
Leading a new generation to commit their lives to Jesus Christ through focused outdoor ministry;
To accomplish these goals we are honored to ask you to pray for this advancement in our mission and to contribute toward
hiring an Associate Presbyter (a local missionary) and assistant to lead the way. Our target is to raise in contributions
and/or 3 year pledges $500,000.00 in the State of Wyoming by May 2013, so we can begin the adventure of moving into
the future as we live for Christ and pass on our faith.
PCJH’s RESPONSE: To assist our local Presbyterian family in reaching these goals, your Session voted to increase our
mission commitment by $17,000 during each of the next 3 years. In addition we ask you to 1) pray for those of our par-
ticular denomination as they strive to be faithful to their Lord and share the good news in their communities; 2) If you
feel called by God to give additional money toward this endeavor (over and above what you give to PCJH) there are envel-
ops in the church office for you to do so.
I am glad to be part of the Body of Christ that desires to reach our portion of the world with the Gospel.
