One of Wales’ most beautiful & ecologically unique free flowing rivers.
RWE Innogy*, a multi-national power company, are attempting to dam it.

Soon this...
Could be this!
![Page 4: Save the Conwy](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022021918/58a9a9781a28ab9c758b535b/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
RWE say this scheme could generate up to 5MW of power to to go back into the grid.
That’s the same as just 1 of these! and there are hundreds within 50 miles already!

RWE want to build:
● A weir. ● 2.5 km of tunnel &
pipeline.● Access tracks.● A turbine station.
The Scheme

Soon this...
The scheme would be built above Conwy Falls.
Removing water from the river for approximately 2km before returning it down stream.
Substantial amounts of water would bypass this...
aND THIS…one of wALES’ DEEPEST and most ecologically unique gorges

It’s a unique eco-systemRWE say that the weir development will improve safety and accessibility for kayakers.

This hydro scheme is a bad idea!
Here’s why...
![Page 9: Save the Conwy](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022021918/58a9a9781a28ab9c758b535b/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
The Conwy has a unique eco-system
From summer lows, to winter highs, the rain water dependent water in the river supports everything from otters to ancient moss.
![Page 10: Save the Conwy](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022021918/58a9a9781a28ab9c758b535b/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Adventure tourism is big business for wales!Adventure tourism brings over £213 million per annum to North Wales.
The river is free flowing but visitors have to stay and eat somewhere!
![Page 11: Save the Conwy](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022021918/58a9a9781a28ab9c758b535b/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Local people and businesses don’t want it!The Conwy attracts:
● Kayakers● Photographers● Naturalists● Walkers
All of whom bring trade to the local economy.
![Page 12: Save the Conwy](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022021918/58a9a9781a28ab9c758b535b/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Local infrastructure can’t handle construction
Construction will require:
● 12,900 individual HGV or artic’ journeys with no dual carriageway for 25 miles.
● 2 years’ projected disruption during construction could bring misery to visitors and locals alike.
![Page 13: Save the Conwy](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022021918/58a9a9781a28ab9c758b535b/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
It’s not safe!
● Swift water rescue experts have raised serious concerns over the safety of the weir design.
● A recirculating hydraulic above Conwy Falls increases the danger of the river to kayakers and passers by.
