DEVELOPERS WITH PROJECTS OVER $5 MILLION NOW IN SLOW LANE

The establishment of the proposed 'new major projects case list' (see below) at VCAT is on hold, until after 31 March 2010 and the appointment of a new President of VCAT and a review.

The new head of VCAT will take up his new position after 31 March 2010; this means fast tracking developments just got shunted into the slip lane with all the other cases. Like Metro Trains with bad brakes.

BACKGROUND In late February 2010, Attorney-General Rob Hulls said disputes over projects worth more than $5 million would be fast-tracked, under new rules that will create a major projects list at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Announcing the appointment of Supreme Court judge Iain Ross as VCAT President, Attorney-General Rob Hulls said the new list would streamline the tribunal's operations. Changes will mean projects get super fast decisions to approve large developments more efficiently.
