Jubilee Year of MercyAugust 14, 2016Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

This Jubilee Year of Mercy bids us share our own experi-ence of Jesus’ mercy with those on what Pope Francis calls the “peripheries”—people who feel marginalized, even unwelcome—inviting them to come home. But with all this mercy, why today’s mayhem? “Do you think I have come to establish peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division” (Luke 12:51). Jesus “breaks down” those “breakups” in painful detail—parents, children, even in-laws. “Against” appears eight times in five verses. Jeremiah faced death for bearing witness (Jeremiah 38:4). Can’t we bear at least a small share of the sometimes merciless cost of sharing mercy? The Letter to the Hebrews warns us, keep your “eyes fixed on Jesus” and “so great a cloud of witnesses,” lest we “grow weary and lose heart” as we run “the race that lies before us” (Hebrews 12:1–3). After all, “for the sake of the joy that lay before him,” Jesus “endured the cross” (12:2). Can’t we endure our small crosses for the sake of sharing mercy?

August 13 & 14, 2016 / 13 & 14 de agosto, 2016Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Normally, the Feast of the Assumption is a holy day of obligation. Because it falls on a Monday this year, it is not observed as a day of obligation. we will have the regular daily Mass at 3:45pm, however, it will be held in the main Church.

R.C.I.A.Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

COME AND SEE!Are you, or do you know anyone, who has not yet been baptized or was baptized in another Christian faith? Ever wondered why Catholics bless themselves with the sign of the cross, what they believe about communion, what’s up with all those saints and statues, and rosaries, and standing, sitting and kneeling? Why does Mary seem so important? Well, why not come and see and come and learn?

This year’s RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Program begins on Thursday, September 8. There’s no cost, no obligation, no commitment necessary. In a series of friendly, informative and spiritually exciting classes we will explore the major things Catholics believe and why. We will learn more about the Mass and what is happening and why. Learn about prayer, scripture, sacraments and Church history, and much more.

Are you Catholic and interested in learning more about your faith? Would you be willing to be part of this program to be part of a faith community willing to journey with and support those interested in learning more about our faith? Now may be the moment that God is calling you to be part of an exciting ministry.

So, if you are currently a non-Catholic wanting to learn more about Catholicism, or a Catho-lic willing to be part of an exciting ministry, please call Sandy Dodson at (512) 213-4554 or Deacon John Kerrigan at (214) 886-8239. You may also email Deacon John at [email protected].

God may be calling you. Listen, pray and come and see….
