ARTISTS in order of appearance

“It’s the perfect band for a festival” – the infectious beats of swing blues, jump and rhythm and blues, laced with the gorgeous accordion zydeco sound brings a unique and rare edge to the Australian music scene.

Blues, Gospel, Zydeco, RNB and Swing is the latest recipe for Juanita’s outfit Queen Juanita and the Zydeco Cowboys. Started in 2007 after a long standing love affair with the melting pot of rhythms and sounds of Louisiana, Juanita picked up her accordion, gathered a few local musicians and began playing the local and National Festival circuit as well as clubs and pubs in the area and beyond. These captivating beats have had many a crowd, young and old, up on their feet unable to help themselves!

Joining Queen Juanita is the perfect recipe for a powerhouse band – Dave “The Reverend” Blanken on guitar, Ali Penney on keys, Matt Nightingale on bass and Mitch Preston on drums.

Bring your dancing shoes cause it’s gonna be a rhythm storm!

Queen Juanita & the Zydeco Cowboys

My Dad & I

My Dad & I hail from the nation’s capital. Tess and her Dad, Cam Hall (The Bridge Between) have been performing, playing and writing music together for a lifetime; creating a luscious and raw sound that is compelling, captivating and powerful.Recently joined by Dylan Harding on drums, My Dad & I are set to release their second single and tour later in the year.

Tess' voice immediately captivates and distracts you from the everyday grind. While she may only be 17 the maturity and rich timbre of her voice is way beyond her years.

Her Dad has been performing and writing music around the globe which contributes to the vibe and synergy that My Dad & I create. Their unique sound will surprise and delight you.

The SHANE PACEY Trio…are that rare (and becoming rarer!) thing… A dedicated Blues band, rather than a solo star with supporting musicians.

Although Shane’s other band, The Bondi Cigars is still very much a going concern, The Shane Pacey Trio allows Shane to indulge his instinct to revisit his roots by way of the music that first inspired him to pick up a guitar and play, as well as sing the blues. For him, it means the likes of Peter Green and the sounds of Chicago’s legendary Chess label, in particular.

Of course, it takes more than company to make a trio: it takes a crowd and the pistol-like rhythm section of bassist Paul Blasi (one of Sydney’s most respected players) and drummer Davo Fester (Glenn Cardier and The Side Show, The Bondi Cigars, PJ O’Brien Band) ensures the tunes land right in the solar plexus……

Happily, we get to go along for the ride.

Shane Pacey Trio

Drew & Dave Duo

Canberra blues stalwarts Dave “Reverend” Blanken and Drew “Little Gus” Wimhurst will take you on a journey to the early years of urban blues. Harking back to the famous Maxwell Street Market, where migrants from the country blues scene of the segregated south forged a new life in the civil rights era, evolving a grittier electrified sound so they could be heard over the vibrant street life of Chicago.

This is where Chicago Blues began, at the hands of giants such as Muddy waters, Robert Nighthawk, Bo Diddley and Little Walter Jacobs. It’s where the blues had a baby and they called it rock & roll.

This down home duo will deliver gritty amplified and acoustic harp and the fattest fingerpicked electrical blues, steeped in the vibe of an afternoon of smokey BBQ, ten cent cigars, a quart of liquor and maybe a good deal on a second-hand suit.

ARTISTS in order of appearance Combining scorching guitar, pounding upright bass, and pedal to the metal drums, The Crossbones are a power trio in the true sense of the term.

Bringing a contemporary approach to the classic sounds of rockabilly, surf rock, spaghetti western, blues and swing.

The Crossbones, George Jakovceski – guitar/vocals, James Newhouse – upright bass/vocals & Duncan Beard – drums/vocals, deliver honest, high-energy music guaranteed to get you swingin’, shakin’ and rockin’ like you know you should! You’ll not only hear the music, you’ll feel it!

The Crossbones

Jarrod Shaw

Jarrod Shaw possesses a passion and appreciation for blues music that becomes obvious from the moment the first note sounds. He delivers a soulful blues inspired show, performed with conviction.

Jarrod was born and raised in country Victoria, down the dirt roads of the Macedon Ranges. He taught himself to play guitar listening to the renowned blues greats, as well as the icons of the Australian and local Melbourne blues scene.

Performing countless solo gigs has aided Jarrod in developing a musical style of his own. He blends his unique guitar approach lying somewhere between piedmont fingerstyle and the blues of the delta, with a powerful voice often described as belying his years. At times he even wails away on a racked blues harp - all at once without missing a beat. If you close your eyes, you might even believe there’s more than one person performing…

It was only about 4 months ago four likeminded fanatical Blues musicians decided to form a blues band that had a common purpose. To play the blues for the fun and love of it. They also want to concentrate on festivals and Blues venues more so than pub/club gigs. Dean Edgecombe - Bass & Vocals, Tim Spellman – Drums, James Hoogstad - Saxaphone & Harmonica and Rick Bamford - Guitar, Slide, Dobro, Vocals...that’s The Minglewood Blues Band!

Work has already started on an album that they hope to record in the next month or two. This will comprise of mainly original tunes and perhaps 2 or 3 covers by our favourite influences. They’ve played a few shows so far, including one of our monthly Blues Jams, that were very well received, and the boys are very excited about this new venture; just as we are super excited that they’re performing on the main stage at our annual IBMD celebration.

The Minglewood Blues Band

Kevin Bennett & Jeremy Edwards

Kevin Bennett, well respected singer/songwriter with Sydney roots band The Flood & Chasin’ The Train, CMAA Gold Guitar winner in 2006 and 2011 & Aria Nominee for 2006, writes relevant, contemporary Australian music containing elements of Blues, Rock and Country - telling stories of where he's from and where he might be going, his past and his future………..he sings his life.

Jeremy Edwards, from roots, blues & country band The Dust Radio Band, has played with some of Australian greats including Glenn Cardier & Jeff Lang and toured with American blues legends John Hammond Jnr and Charlie Musselwhite. He’s also played a string of dates with Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson tribute shows and toured ‘The Stevie Show - The life and times of Stevie Wright and The Easybeats’ & ‘Pearl- The Janis Joplin Story’, in which Jeremy was musical director/guitarist.

Put these two talented artists together on stage & you’ve got one hell of a duo!

PJ O’Brien Band

Genevieve Chadwick

Imagine if Janis Joplin and John Lee Hooker had a baby together; musically, this girl would be the offspring of that union. She looks like an angel… roars like a lion… and plays guitar like a demon.

The husky & impressive Genevieve Chadwick touches the very soul of an audience with her original brand of blues & roots, exuding raw energy by the bucket load. Genevieve has the gravelly, powerful voice of someone twice, three times, her age. When she performs solo, she’s armed with an acoustic guitar and stomp-box and can rip through crazy blues runs with an energy that would embarrass bands.

She has been described as “Raucous, untamed and exceptionally talented”, “Australia's answer to Melissa Etheridge”, ‘a female John Butler’……

But Genevieve is making her music, on her terms in her own unique way.

Australian independent artist, Marji Curran is renowned for her lyrical, powerful vocals and deep passion for her music. She takes audiences on an emotive journey, through predominantly original Blues-rock and Roots songs.

“Marji’s music is always sincere and from the heart which touches a chord with fans, and she delivers her songs with an energy and determination that has to be seen to be believed,” Neil Mumme – Great Southern Blues festival Australia.

Marji Curran - lead vocal/rhythm guitar, David Williams-lead guitar/ vocal harmony, Craig Marshalsey bass guitar/vocal harmony, Donovan Gall- drums/ vocal harmony and Phoebe Juskevics-percussion.

The band’s high energy, foot stomping roots, blues and rock get people up on their feet with an uncontrollable urge to move every part of their bodies.

Marji Curran Band

Owen Campbell Band

Owen Campbell, slide guitarist, songwriter, banjo player, blues singer, busker and more, is one of the premiere Blues/Roots/Rock performers in the country & overseas.

In late 2016 Owen found not one, but 2 of his albums in the USA iTunes Blues Charts - Sunshine Road #4, Breathing Bullets #22.

The lead up to this breakthrough has been years of grinding tours worldwide to audiences in the USA, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Austria, France, Switzerland and Japan, clocking up tens of millions of YouTube hits and thousands of album sales in the process.

Check out Blues Blast Magazine review on his latest Album Breathing Bullets – http://www.bluesblastmagazine.com/owen-campbell-breathing-bullets-album-review/

With the full band behind him, Owen is a true force to be reckoned with and a massive compliment to any festival event having performed locally at events such as Blues on Broadbeach, Thredbo Blues Festival, Sydney Blues Festival, National Folk Festival and more as well as major festivals in the US, Nepal and Ireland.

“Possibly one of the best performers to come out of Australia for quite some time; amazing lap steel slide guitar and a songwriting ability that belies his years.” - ARGUS NEWS, IRELAND
