Sari has a penchant for biking, so she decided to enter the 100 mile race to raise money for Cancer research.

11. Sardonic Adj.Humor tinged with sarcasm and contempt

Writing a sardonic note to your boss may not be the best way to persuade him to change your late-night work schedule.

12. Static Adj.Not moving or changing, fixed in a position

Most characters change and develop over the course of a novel, but some remain static throughout.

13. Superfluous adj. More than necessary

When cleaning your room, it is best to get rid of the superfluous items so there are fewer things to have to keep picking up off the floor.

14. Unprecedented Adj.Never happened before, first of its kind

Because landing on the moon in 1969 was an unprecedented event, the whole world watched in amazement.

15. Verbose Adj.Using too many words

His essay was returned with instructions to make it less verbose and to use more powerful words.

something about The Crucible. Each sentence must contain at least 10 words and explain some concept in the story. Circle the word in the sentence.

• Example: In Salem, neighbors would fulminate with each other to the point of actually calling them out as being a witch.
