Sasol’s Fischer-Tropsch (FT) waxes offer unique properties and superior performance in a variety of applications thanks to the combination of a high melting point, low viscosity and excellent hardness, even at elevated temperatures. Our FT waxes are inherently stable and may be exposed to heat for long periods with little deterioration in their properties. State-of-the-art fractionation, micronisation and modification result in a wide range of waxes with different physical and chemical characteristics. Chemical modification yields products with unique characteristics that can be tailored to the specific needs of our customers.

Sasol’s FT hard waxes have proven to be effective components in applications such as hot melt adhesives, polymer processing, inks, paints, coatings, textiles and as a bitumen additive.

Long-term supply commitment to the fast-growing hard wax markets

The first phase of Sasol’s Fischer-Tropsch Wax Expansion Project (FTWEP) plant came on stream in May 2015. Aligned with Sasol’s strategy to leverage its advanced proprietary technology, the FTWEP marks a significant step in the realisation of our company’s long-term growth plans for the chemicals business and adds much-needed capacity to an rapidly growing global hard wax market.

Sasol offers a wide range of Fischer-Tropsch waxes with particular performance properties with different characteristics to suit different application requirements. Working with our customers as partners, we develop products customised to their specific needs.

Customers benefit from Sasol’s customer proximity through a global sales force that works with customers and end users directly to understand key market drivers and performance requirements in the different applications.

While Sasol’s FT waxes have been produced in South Africa for 60 years, we operate a global supply infrastructure with storage facilities across the Americas, Europe and Asia. This results in shorter lead times and enables us to offer our customers in-plant service.

With its partnering approach and its class leading customer proximity through its global salesforce and warehouse network, Sasol can leverage unique insights into market drivers and the performance requirements of the different applications served by its products.

The new FTWEP plant will ultimately double Sasol’s hard wax production capacity, channelling new product into a fast-growing global market.

Sasol’s biggest capital investment of the last three years, the newly completed Fischer-Tropsch Wax Expansion Project (FTWEP) plant has been operational since May 2015. The new facility is uniquely positioned to serve the rapidly growing global hard wax markets and reinforces Sasol’s long-term supply commitment to its customers.
