Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation & Habitat Trust Announce the Adopt an Acre Initiative

Native prairie and parkland are among the fastest disappearing wildlife habitats on the planet, and that the rate of habitat loss is at an all-time high. Not only does this deprive wildlife of the essentials for survival, but takes away the opportunity for people like us to enjoy all the natural wonder our province has to offer.That is why the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation is proud to announce our new Adopt an Acre initiative, which aims to secure 100,000 acres of habitat land for Saskatchewan’s wildlife by 2028.

For $50.00 per acre a year people like you can pave the way. You can choose to adopt one acre for now, one acre for numerous years, or several acres over numerous years — it’s all up to you! For contributing to this initiative, people will receive a charitable tax receipt, a copy of the Annual Habitat Report, a certificate, their name listed in the Outdoor Canada West, and more! Saskatchewan Game Management Plan Released

Saskatchewan’s game species are a part of our heritage and a public resource belonging to all Saskatchewan residents. The responsible use and conservation of these resources is the responsibility of the Government of Saskatchewan. As such, Saskatchewan developed a plan to focus effort on priority actions to ensure we maintain game species populations and their habitat for future generations.

This 10-year provincial plan (2018-2028) focuses on the scientific management of game species while considering social and economic issues. This is reflected in the plan’s three outcomes:

• Sustainable management for the conservation of game species and their habitat;

• Equitable allocation of game species to optimize social, cultural and economic benefits; and

• Shared responsibility and public engagement in wildlife management.

The Game Management Plan is a dynamic, living framework that has the flexibility to respond to changing priorities and actions. The Game Management Plan includes:

• Core Document – frames the fundamental elements of game management and lays out 76 priority actions to achieve the plan’s outcomes.

• Game Allocation Framework – guides decision-making on how harvestable game species are allocated to hunters

In the near future species management plans will be developed, which will guide how game species are managed and provide long-range management thresholds for population objectives for each species.

 SWF Branch Executives, Cabelas has recently begun asking customers to round up their purchase in order to donate to the Outdoor Fund, meant to sponsor local organizations who dedicate their programs to outdoor advocacy, conservation, education, and helping others. Cabelas has reached out to the SWF to encourage our members to apply for funding. The Cabela’s Canada Outdoor Fund is designed to leave a long-lasting impact on the outdoor community by providing and enhancing opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. It provides financial support to organizations throughout the country that focus their activities on:

•Advocacy: Protecting the outdoor lifestyle and the right to hunt, fish, camp and trap.

• Education: Teaching the next generation of hunters, anglers, campers and recreational sport shooters.

Once again, we find the law-abiding firearms community under attack by our Gov’t. The fact that they think we need more gun control only expounds how really useless it is. However, in the eyes of the Liberals, if at first it doesn’t work than we must need more of the same – the definition of stupidity! Of course, the proposed legislation only attacks the legal community and they have provided no evidence as to how the present laws or the proposed ones will affect violent criminals or how they are going to get them to comply. In case you had any doubt, it absolutely is a backdoor registry see the following statements taken direct from Public Safety Canada:

1. Anyone selling or giving a non-restricted firearm, including private sellers, will be required to verify the validity of the firearms license of the recipient with the Canadian Firearms Program (CFP).Note: The Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) will issue everyone who calls in a reference number after they have confirmed who both parties are and validated the buyers license. As the legislation stands now it is only businesses the will have to record the reference number, the date they got the reference number and the make, model, serial number and type of firearm. However I’m told the Liberals will be changing it to include all transferors including private individuals when it gets to committee in parliament. The reference number is what ties the two together, so the only difference between the old registry and the new one is we have two administrators as they have of loaded half of the bureaucracy on the transferor. This is a major pain point for us. The CFC cannot handle the call volume it has now just on restricted registrations, ATT’s and license renewals. I call yesterday three times for an ATT, I was on the first time for 15 minutes, second try 20 minutes last and final go 40 minutes before I got a live body. The CFC is only open from 9 – 5 weekdays and the legislation says you must have a reference number before you can transfer a firearm. You get the picture. All the issues we had calling in on the old system are back to haunt us.

3. Provide for the transfer of remaining Quebec-related records for non-restricted firearms to the province, if requested.

 I would interpret this to mean they are going to reactivate the Quebec long gun registry in the CFC system as it specifically says they will provide it to Quebec only if they ask for it. They also intend to move full authority to the unelected, unaccountable RCMP. The RCMP and only the RCMP will determine what guns will be prohibited in the future. We are now moving to a police state where police whose job it is to enforce law are now going to make law. The only role the Gov’t will play is add new categories (classes) of firearms to enable RCMP to make the prohibitions. Not only will we have no ability to contest this, the legislation goes on to say any decisions of the RCMP cannot be changed. If they actually make a mistake and reclassify a gun incorrectly, there is no going back. The liberals have the audacity to say we will respect lawful law-abiding gun owners! They go on to say owners whose guns have been moved to prohibited will be grandfathered, which is their way of getting out of paying compensation. They just steal them from your estate. All in all, this amounts to a huge waste of money that could be better used for more desperately needed rural Policing, women’s shelters and addressing mental health issues.

  The following list is the last members that were appointed to Mr. Goodale’ s advisory committee after The Liberals were first elected, they were all part and parcel in drafting Bill C-71. The committee already included former Supreme Court Justice Chair John Major, Nathalie Provost (spokesperson for anti-gun group PolySeSouvient) and Olympic athlete Lynda Kiejko. Some names and or groups  may be familiar to some of you. Annie Buchan – Member of the Pauktuutit Board of Directors.     First Nations’ women’s advocate with no public stance on firearms regulation, but is likely to support further regulation.Ron Bonnett – President of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.   Farming and agriculture advocate with no public stance on firearms regulation.James (Jim) Couch – President of Ducks Unlimited, and sports shooter and hunter.   Wetland and waterfowl conservation advocate. Ducks Unlimited supported the elimination of the long gun registry but remains silent on the greater issues of gun regulation in Canada.Suzanne Jackson – Chair of the Board at the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA),  Representative of an organization that is identified as a member of the Coalition for Gun Control and vocally opposed to Bill C-391; an early attempt to terminate the long gun registry.Paul Pageau – President of the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP).       Representative of an organization that is identified as a member of the Coalition for Gun Control and vocally opposed to Bill C-391; an early attempt to terminate the long gun registry.

Paulette Senior – Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Women’s Foundation.   Former head of the YWCA in Canada. Presided over the YWCA during the YWCA’s membership in the Coalition for Gun Control. Opposed to efforts aimed at eliminating long gun registry.Clive Weighill – Past President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP).      Representative of an organization that is identified as a member of the Coalition for Gun Control and vocally opposed the elimination of the long gun registry by supporting then CACP President (and now sitting MP) Bill Blair. Less than a month ago, another vehicle was driven down the sidewalk of Toronto, killing and injuring many people and until Gov’t is ready to focus on the real issues (root causes) it will only continue. Vehicles, knifes, firearms etc. are only tools. The notion that more gun control that only applies to the law-abiding is somehow going to stop violent crime is only a pipe dream! Is it a coincidence that the Gov’t moves to legalize marijuana and Opioids on the street surge? How has the prohibition of any of the street drugs stopped their distribution? Did prostitution stop when it was made a criminal offence? Want to kill a bunch of people and make a statement, can’t find a gun then it seems you just rent a Van or big truck.

Personally I think they designed C-71 to fail at what it claims to address, thereby justifying them (in their own mind)  to make ever increasing gun control laws. If anyone thinks this is the end of the Liberal Gun Control agenda I say you are sadly mistaken. SWF announces a new Legal Defence Insurance Policy for our members

Legal Defence Insurance is an insurance product that can protect you in the case of unforeseen legal events. Some of these events can be an appeal to a suspension, cancellation, or revocation of a firearms licence; or a firearms offence relating to the use, storage, display, transportation, or handling of a firearm or crossbow.

Here are some examples of what can unexpectedly occur:

* Following a noise complaint from a neighbour, the police visit Laura’s home and discovers a firearm out of its safe. As a result, Laura is charged with unsafe storage of a firearm.

* The firearm certification of Ben, a training instructor, is suspended after a review by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Ben disagrees with the decision and wishes to appeal.

If you are ever involved in a similar legal matter, your Legal Defence Insurance Policy can protect you. With Legal Defence Insurance, you will have access to legal resources at any time.
