Everyone is welcome. What is God calling us too? Assembly 2018 – The Spirit of God is moving! The 178 delegates who showed up at Hope Fellowship Church (Saskatoon) for Assembly 2018 witnessed an incredible outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Not only did participants hear stories of how the Spirit of God was transforming lives in Saskatchewan, Canada and around the world, but they also witnessed people touched deeply at the Assembly itself. One example of this supernatural visitation was when speaker Bill Hogg called people to submit themselves to the Lord’s power and leading in their lives, to come forward and receive an anointing for themselves personally and for their ministry. People lined the length of the stage as they came forward weeping, calling out to God and asking for prayer. SKMB Director of Ministry, Phil Gunther, shared how he had seen the moving of God in his ministry as he encountered a herd of deer, that seemingly came out of nowhere, and stood on the highway directly in front of him. He braced for an impact, but moments later was on the other side of the herd. He also recounted stories of healing and personal transformation in people during his travels within the MB community in the province and in Canada. Bill Hogg stated that, “Jesus never expected us to take one baby step on mission without the anointing of the Holy Spirit.” These were indeed prophetic words to those at the Assembly. MB Seminary President was the Assembly’s keynote speaker on the event theme “One” based upon Ephesians 4:4-6. Wessner provided an excellent address noting that “To be one with Jesus is to be one with all followers of Jesus...before we think about mission we need to think about one relationship, our relationships with our brothers and sisters in Christ.” Wessner said further, “The Body of Christ is built to go in one direction...and in the mighty power of God Himself!” Ar*bic pastor, church planter, and evangelist “HT” from T*ky shared how the Spirit of God was moving in his country, how M*lims were searching for a God of love, the love that is demonstrated in and through the person of Jesus. He counseled the Assembly delegates that without risk, there is no faith. We must enter into risk if we want to see our world transformed by the Gospel. The Assembly started with a financial update led by SKMB moderator Tony Martens who stated that 2016 witnessed our last deficit, some $45,000. Moving forward our budgets will be realistic, responsible, strategic and sustainable. A

One example of this supernatural visitation was when speaker Bill Hogg called people to submit themselves to the Lord’s power and leading in their lives, to come forward and receive an anointing for themselves personally and for their ministry.  People lined the length of the stage as they came forward weeping, calling out to God and asking for prayer. budget of $183,000 was unanimously passed with strategic investments from reserves into church multiplication (C2C), SOAR Saskatchewan, Mission Pentecostal Church support and SKMB Camps.

A period of listening to the constituency followed where delegates were asked to discuss principles they valued for how strategic investments were done by SKMB leadership.  There was also dialogue on the value and role of church multiplication within Saskatchewan.  Delegates were reminded that we are not funding C2C, we are funding church multiplication.  It was expressed that multiplication is a mindset which needs to take root in the soil of all our churches and camps.  Lastly, delegates were asked to share their own church’s resources and skills, assets that they were willing to share.

The introduction of the Canadian Conference of MB Church’s Collaborative Model was a significant piece the Assembly led by Steve Berg (Executive Director) and Bruce Enns.  This was followed by a lengthy Q&A period and closed with a unanimous straw vote in favour of proceeding with this re-structuring.  Berg stated, “This is a great era of collaboration and humility among all levels of leadership to work together to accomplish God’s purposes for Canada.  God’s Spirit has been at work bringing out a common vision and ways to work together in achieving [these purposes].”

The acceptance into SKMB membership of Wynyard Gospel Church and Mission Pentecostal Church (Regina) were highlights of the Assembly as was the affirmation of Pastor Rick Hawreschuk’s ordination.

Assembly 2018 Email – On Mission Together        “Hi Phil.   A group of Wynyard Gospel Church members have been involved in a community effort (with MCC) to bring a refugee family to Wynyard.  This refugee family will arrive in the next 2 months, and will be a Swahili-speaking family from eastern Congo - they don't speak English.   When one of our members at Assembly heard that the Mission Pentecostal people were Swahili speaking, she made a connection with them to ask if one of them could be present at the Regina airport when the refugee family arrives in order to translate.    The Mission Pentecostal people gladly agreed to do this. We are indeed on mission together and the Spirit of God is moving ahead of us!”  Steve Wiebe, Pastor.
