The cover painting, by William Kelley, depicts Siesta Key beach and the cabanas at the Sanderling Club. Kelley, who divides his time between homes in Sarasota and Florence, Italy, is a world travel who absorbs other cultures and harbors a fascination with people and an appreciation of the vivid colors and
shades of the universe.His work has been collected and admired on an interna-
tional scale.“Kelley is a spiritual son to Cézanne with as profound a
vision as one could want,” said art historian Sister Wendy beckett. “His work is beautiful, extraordinary and magnificent.”

2012 SUMMER SEASON 48
The following 25 items should be mainstays in your arsenal to beat the Florida heat this summer and not only to feel cooler – but look cooler. From beach-themed purses and sum-mery bow ties to bedazzled pens perfect for making notes in the pages of gripping beach reads, we've got you covered.
GET THE SCOOP | Need a break from the summer heat? Indulge in a scoop of locally-made ice cream from Memory Lane Ice Cream & Sweet Shop, located on State Road 70 East in Bradenton. The 1950s and 1960s-themed shop boasts a variety of flavors from McClains Homemade Ice Cream, including a birthday cake flavor. Sounds like a sweet treat to us.
BIKINI FIX | Get ’em while they’re hot on the rack. Aqua Beachwear, located on Siesta Key and St. Armands Circle, is known for its designer swim-suits. Trina Turk Fiji Flower Halter Bra and Hip Pant $174. Call 346-0702.
THEY’VE GOT THE BLUES | ’Tis the season for aqua bracelets. Go perusin’ at Just Cruzin’ on St. Armands Circle for Gulf of Mexico-hued arm art, such as the rose bracelet $28; and green bracelet $20. Call 706-2150.
DON’T SHRUG YOUR SHOULDERS | Hint: It’s not a scarf. The slinky material alone is worth just trying on, but be warned — if you do, it will end
up in a Dream Weaver bag and you’ll be scurrying
around St. Armands looking for matching shoes. Mashiah Print Dill jacket $695;
Margo Selby tie $95. Call 388-1974.
49SUMMER SEASON 2012
NOVEL IDEA | So, you’re imagining plopping down on your favorite beach chair, sipping something fruity and opening the cover of that steamy beach read. Sound about right? Head to Bookstore1Sarasota on Main Street for all of your summer reading. There is even a book club you can join. Call 365-7900.
HANDBAG HEAVEN Oh, Mary Frances, how do we love you? Let us count the ways. Foxy Lady on St. Armands and Siesta Key carries a hypnotizing selection of MF bags that will keep friends and family gushing. The shoes alone are enough to do a woman in, and let’s not forget the dresses. Always say yes to the dress. Price of Mary Frances bags average between $230 and $280. Call 388-5239.
ROAR OF A TIME | Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary, located out east off Palmer Boule-vard, is probably one of the more unusual venues in Sarasota. The non-profit safe haven for big cats, bears and other animals in need is open from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and offers animal encoun-ters of the close kind. The habitat also offers self-guided Sunset Safari tours. Admission is $15 for adults and $7 for kids. Call 371-6377.
SAY HELLO TO YELLOW | This shade of yellow is far from mellow. Glam up your face with these Chanel shades from Sunglass Ex-press RX on St. Armands Circle. If you’re in the market for a funky watch, check out the beaded watches ($25) made with pa-perclips! Yellow Chanel sunglasses $340. Call 388-5115.
