  • Here’s a historic piece of news. Pope Francis has appointed Wilton Gregory, the Archbishop of Washington, D.C. to be a Cardinal of the Catholic Church. Cardinal Gregory will be the first African-American to hold such a role. He stated: "I hope it's a sign to the African American community that the Catholic Church has a great reverence, respect and esteem for the people, for my people of color." He promises to work for racial justice in our country. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is Tuesday, December 8. Ordinarily, it is a Holy Day of Obligation that cannot be dispensed. However, Bishop Boyea has issued a dispensation from all Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation until the beginning of Lent. Consequently, there will be one Mass at 8:30AM on Tuesday, December 8. There will be a bilingual Mass on Thursday, December 10, at 6PM to celebrate our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of Mexico and of the Western Hemisphere. The Mass will be preceded by a bilingual Rosary at 5:30PM. Worship aides in both English and Spanish will be provided during the Mass. Please join in this important celebration. A reminder: if you are not able to make it to Mass on Sunday, please remember that St. Therese has a broadcast Mass over the internet. You can find it on YouTube by going to St. Therese of Lisieux - Lansing. It may also be found on our Facebook Page, also by going to St. Therese of Lisieux - Lansing. Lastly, the Mass can be found on our Parish Webpage. If you have access to the internet, please do keep in contact with the parish by participating in the broadcast Mass. Thank you to Dean Jong, Jay Jong, Pat Droste and Deacon Dave for their help over the past months in producing this broadcast. It is a lot of work, especially for Dean. If you do not have access to the internet, please be sure to watch the Outreach Mass on WLIX at 6AM or 10AM. It is important to stay in contact with our Catholic Community during these challenging times. Also, I would like to urge you to keep up with your tithing at this time. When the pandemic first begin, churches across the United States actually noticed an increase in gift-giving. This was certainly true at St. Therese. Over the past weeks, however, contributions to the parish definitely have decreased. We rely on your gifts to keep our parish open. Also, thank you to everyone who is continuing to make their Witness to Hope pledges. They have enabled us to accomplish so many projects around the parish. It looks like we are going to need a new elevator. This was unanticipated when we made our Witness to Hope appeal. The elevator is very old, and we have been informed that it will soon not be possible to find new parts for its repair. I truly understand if you are unable to keep your Witness to Hope pledges during these unprecedented times. However, if you are, please know that your WTH contributions will continue to funds necessary projects around the parish. Thank you to Pat Droste and the Arts and Environment for preparing the church for Advent. As always, it looks beautiful. Fr. John Fain
