The Importance of Seeing Sarah Palin

    1.

Obama and Palin demonstrate many parallels. These parallels include channelling waves of fear anddiscontent with the America their predecessors left, making themselves familiar to the general public,

and make it so the public can relate to them, by creating an authentic image, and positioning

themselves as the outsiders or underdogs.2.

It is particularly difficult to Canadians to understand the Tea Party movement because they simply

cannot relate to the concepts being conveyed; Canadians are less God-fearing and they invest a greatertrust in large goverment.

    3.

Wente would argue that the Mayor of Toronto is an echo of the Tea Party movement in the United

    States.4.

There is certainly a deep-rooted cause as to why the Tea Party movement has been able to sweep

America. There are many possible attributions as to how the movement has seen much success, andhere are some of the more prominent reasons. Professionals, largely in their 50s, are having their jobs

outsourced. The Tea Party gains a significant standing with this particular demographic. People also

fear the federal goverment expanding. This is seen with Obamacare, where there was a huge uproarover what was perceived as the goverment expanding. Finally, Americans see the bankers and

politicians as people who not only caused the recession, but then sent it to the people to pay. All three

of these factors have allowed for the Tea Party to muster significant support.5.

Sarah Palin is a relatable, seemingly down-to-earth person who keeps up with her supporters,

particularly through social media networking. Her appeal is similar to that of President Bush: the

people see her as honest and similar to themselves.6.

(I take this question to reference the radio talk show, and not the actual tea-party movement in the 18 th

century.) The tea party movement originated with Rick Santelli, a commentator on CNBC. He rantedabout the goverment, and how they are the cause of the recession, and how they are going to force the

public to foot the bill. He suggested Americans require another tea-party movement, much like the

Boston Tea Party in late 1773. It is unlikely that Santelli intended to actually start a massive movement,as he was sure to appreciate the scope of his audience, and that it was horrendously unlikely. This is not

to say, however, that he would not have liked to start the movement. He seemed impassioned with the

ideals of the Tea Party, and would surely support such a movement.

7.The largest issue that Rasmussen argues the political debate takes place over, is whether the interests

and motives of the goverment lie with the public, or with the large industries and corporations.

9.Glen Beck makes 36 million dollars a year. Sarah Palin makes 60 thousand dollars per speaking

arrangement. These numbers would certainly place Palin and Beck on the side of the polical elite.

10.Wente would argue that Palin does not have a political platform; instead she offers her supporters

    energy, attitude and support.

11.A Tenther is someone who is politically devoted to the 10th commandment.

    12.

Beck's main message in terms of financial policies in the U.S. is to get rid of the wellfare state.

    13.

Beck uses images of a barren desert to entrance his audience, and captivate them with his religiously

    infused story.

14.Went would suggest that Palin is living in a political bubble, in that she communicates with her fans

through one-way social networking, and never opens herself to the views of her supporters.

15.Even if Palin is unelectable, as a prominent figure in the Tea Party, any republican would require her

blessing or exert her influence in order to achieve power.

16.This is based on the theories of Keynes.

    17.

Canadians have established themselves in a comfort zone where larger goverment is acceptable, and

they adopt a largely conservative approach to spending. They also have minimal (relative to the UnitedStates) religious affiliation, and would be significantly less open to a Tea Party movement.
