Q:Whatwasyourfamily’sconnectionwithSpoutHouseFarm?Iwasbornin1926onthefarmitself.Itbelongedtomydad(whowascalledReg)andmum,andbeforetheyhadit,mygrandfatherhadit.MyfamilynameisWhitmore.MygrandfatherhadSpoutHouseFarm,andwhatwecalled‘TopFarm’onSandyfieldsRoad,alsocalledGreenhillFarm.Q:WouldyourgrandfatherhaveownedthosefarmsinVictoriantimes?Yes,Iwouldsayso.MygrandfatherboughtSpoutHouseFarmfromtheLawfamily,whohadowneditforgenerations.Q:WhatkindoffarmwasSpoutHouse?Itwasadairyfarmmainly.Wegrewvegetables,potatoesandwheattooandotherfoodstuffstofeedthecowswith.Itwas‘organic’inthosedays-therewasnoneofthis‘patent’stuffuntillateron(iechemicalsforkillingweeds).Yearsago,weusedtogoupanddowntherowswithahoe,togettheweedsout–youdidn’tgetanythingoutofabottlethen.Wehadamanwhowoulddoit.
