10 best practices to take back control of your inbox1 Don’t live in your inbox! Set times to check your email, twice a day

or every hour, it’s up to you, just make sure you aren’t distracted by email in between those dedicated blocks of times.

2 If an email is really urgent, or if a response will take under 2 minutes, just reply now (in one of your dedicated blocks of time). Don’t waste time thinking of what to do with it.

3 �Check�your�SaneLater�folder�several�times�a�day�when�first�using�SaneBox to make sure important messages aren’t being missed. It’s uncommon, but if something is out of place you can easily train it by dragging it into your inbox or vice versa.

4 Set reminders on mail you send so if you don’t hear back from the�recipient�by�a�certain�time�you�will�get�a�notification.

5 Email isn’t always the best option. Sometimes it makes more sense to communicate with a team member in person or by phone.

6 Enable Sane Attachments to organize your attachments and to free up storage space.

7 Email threads can quickly balloon into dozens of emails and numerous recipients, which becomes very overwhelming. Decide if a) a phone conference is better, b) if some people deserve to be removed from the thread, c) if it makes sense to start a new thread.

8 Defer emails until you need them. There’s no reason to have emails that don’t need your attention until later cluttering your inbox.

9 Using the Reply-all button sparingly. Make sure it’s necessary given the situation, otherwise you’re creating extra email for the recipients and wasting their time.

10 Your inbox is a to-do list other people can write on. Respect the time of your co- by sending well constructed and thought out emails.
