The process for renewing our PBID charter in 2013 has begun. We are working with Civitas Advisors from Sacramento to complete the project. John Lambeth, the principal of Civitas, was the person who authored the legislation that allowed for the formulation of PBID’s in California.

Our ability to do our work with a low level of administrative expenses will be incorporated into the renewal. The new master plan will provide additional services and improvements with reduced administrative costs. We expect that the surplus administrative funds remaining after fiscal year 2012 will be designated for tangible quantifiable benefits for our stakeholders.

We will communicate to each of our stakeholders and conduct public forums as we move through the renewal process. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate. A draft Management District Plan will be ready in October.

PBid WeBSIte

www.sanPedroBid.comYour PBID website has some newly added features. We have added commercial and residential sections. Contact info, as well as photos, are available for many properties. This free service is available to all stakeholders. Call Steve Robbins at 310.832.2183 or email him at [email protected] and we will get your listing online.

Also, we have added links to San Pedro’s bountiful offerings of arts, culture and entertainment.

PBID has installed 30 new antique green trash receptacles and 10 benches in the district.

PBID maintains these units as well as the matching streetscape furniture installed by the Community Redevelopment Agency within the PBID.

nAtIonAL WAterCoLor SoCIety ProPoSeS PBid exPAnSIon The National Watercolor Society located at 915 S. Pacific has requested to be included as part of the PBID’s renewal process. PBID staff made a presentation to NWS’s Board of Directors on June 18th outlining the services offered by PBID and the benefits received by our stakeholders..

Staff writers from the Los Angeles Business Journal, shown here with PBID President Eric Eisenberg, visited San Pedro on September 16th. The group of 14 led by Business Journal Editor Charley Crumpley explored our community on a 90 minute rise aboard the San Pedro Downtown Trolley followed by a seafood lunch at the San Pedro Fish Market. That afternoon the Port of Los Angeles provided a harbor tour hosted by Port Executive Director Geraldine Knatz.

PArtnerShIP The PBID has created a cable TV ad program with Time Warner Cable. A major component of the program is our ability to create personalized commercials for stakeholders and merchants within our district using the effective PBID 30 & 60 second ads.

The cost of production and air time is partially underwritten by the PBID. We will be visiting merchants within the district in October with details of this coop program.

ComeS ALIve As Marymount College prepared to open their Waterfront Campus, colorful banners welcoming their arrival appeared throughout the PBID area. This project through the vision and talent of Liz Schindler Johnson features iconic vignettes of many of the PBID’s cultural assets. The Marymount Welcome banners are supported by an equal number of Rediscover San Pedro Banners to enliven our district.

This project was funded in part by Marymount College.

Look ArounD…See the ImProvementS The PBID has been serving the downtown area for the past 2 1/2 years. Since PBID’s inception our primary mission has been to create and maintain a clean and safe environment for our stakeholders, residents and visitors. Much has been accomplished. The streets and alleys are free of accumulated debris and litter. The trees are trimmed. Graffiti disappears almost immediately. Permits for outdoor dining have been funded. As the City of Los Angeles has scaled back on critically needed services, your PBID has stepped in to fill the void providing programs and services that allow our community to move forward.

Thanks to the commitment from our stakeholders the PBID will continue to maintain and enhance services that will improve our district.

Statistics for the period of June 1 – August 31, 2011 gathered through the LAPD Harbor Division web site shows criminal activity within the PBID to be far less than in surrounding areas. The chart below compares three areas – the PBID, a 1/2 mile radius from the approximate PBID center (200 W. 7th) and a 1/2 mile radius from 700 S. Gaffey. The statistics show significantly lower levels of criminal activity in the PBID area for all types of activity tracked.
