1. Poás Volcano National Park Located in Alajuela Province, Poas Volcano, reaching 8,884 feet above sea level, is one of the most spectacular volcanoes in Costa Rica. It is known as the biggest geyser in the world because of its plumiform eruptions. The eruption of 1920 stands out in its history. That eruption produced a huge ash cloud that rose 26,246 feet into the sky. There are two craters on the volcano. The main one measures a mile across and is nearly 1,000 feet deep. In the bottom is a 1,150 foot diameter hot water lagoon. There is a 130 foot high cone by the lagoon that has a lot of fumarole activity. The second crater holds a cold water lake, whose origin is clearly pluvial. The vegetation on the slopes of the volcano consists of arrayans, cloud forests stunted forests and areas of little or no vegetation. 2. La Paz Waterfall This is the most beautiful waterfall in Costa Rica. “The peace waterfall”. One for the photo album. “You will love it”. 3. Hummingbird Garden & Butterfly Farm A beautiful leisure stroll through this natural path. Then stop for lunch at the Restaurant. 4. Sarapiqui River Boat Ride This is the highlight of our tour. Braulio Carrillo National Park “We will stop and look as we pass through it” This park is an impressive 109,000 acres. The second largest park in Costa Rica! The fauna and vegetation are a mixture of rain forest and cloud forest. They are also the habitat of abundant wildlife of both of these environments. A nice finish to a wonderful day. Our first stop is the Irazú Volcano which is 11.000 feet above sea level; this is the highest point on the Central Volcanic Mountain Range. We will continue through the hills of our Agriculture region, where potatoes, cabbages, and other vegetable crops are grown. Higher in elevation you can observe our dairy farms as well, once reaching Irazú Volcano you can view both the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean on a nice clear day, after admiring the enormous crater. You will then visit Cartago, the old capital of Costa Rica, also the home of Our Lady of the Angels Basilica, patroness of our country. This is a much-frequented place of pilgrimage. After admiring our Cathedral, we will continue the tour to the beautiful Orosi valley, where we will see the oldest Catholic Church found in Costa Rica (1743). Here you will experience the presence of our Spanish predecessors and their strong religious beliefs, a delicious lunch is provided at a local restaurant. The tour starts between 6:00 am and 7:00 am when we pick the participants at the main hotels of the metropolitan area. Around 8:00 am you will enjoy a Costa Rican breakfast, then after we arrive to Tres Equis, Turrialba, a town where our river guides wait for us with the equipment to start this wonderful adventure. Each participant will receive a life jacket, a helmet and a paddle. One of the guides will give safety instructions and a practice run before facing things like the Huacas, Cimarrones and Dos Montañas during the whitewater rafting expedition. Pacuare is considered the most beautiful river in Costa Rica, and worldwide one of the best whitewater rafting rivers due to the scenic beauty, waterfalls, hiking trails and diversity of flora and fauna, among which adventures will observe blue morpho butterflies, sloths, tucans, red frogs and great variety of birds. Thus, nature is present throughout the route. This is a 3.5-hour journey with approximately 18 miles length. The minimum age for participants is 12 years old. Once the river journey is finished, our customers are moved to a restaurant in Siquirres, province of Limón for a shower and a typical lunch. We return to San José and leave rafters in their hotels between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m.
