Context With 75,000 residents, 300,000 commuters and 800,000 transit trips every day, San Isidro’s infrastructure is challenged. Private cars represent social status, but there is an opportunity to improve perceptions of nonmotorized transport. Due to layers of governance and siloed processes, local transport initiatives can be slow to be approved. The Municipality has established a good framework for success with initiatives, including Chapa tu Bici, City open data and public space remodeling. Findings The IBM Smarter Cities Challenge team assessed infrastructure for public mass transport as well as nonmotorized transport, such as bikes. The IBM team captured residents’ views on sustainable mobility, including the effects of intense traffic on parking. The IBM team assessed the capacity to bridge the current situation to provide a new generation of sustainable transport. The IBM team evaluated master and statistical data as well as the current scheme for sharing data internally and with the public.
