San  Diego  Radiosurgery  Milestones    •  San  Diego  Radiosurgery  was  established  in  2008  as  a  service  of  Palomar  Medical  Center.

 •  The  center  implemented  a  mulMdisciplinary  approach  to  paMent  care,  allowing  San  Diego  Radiosurgery  physicians  to  collaborate  with  doctors  across  different  specialMes  and  remain  involved  in  their  paMents’  treatment  from  start  to  finish.

 •  Lung  cancer  is  the  center’s  most  frequently  treated  disease,  encompassing  one-‐third  of  total  treatments.

•  San  Diego  Radiosurgery’s  current  clinical  trial  for  early  stage  prostate  cancer  is  using  Novalis  Tx®  to  evaluate  the  tolerance  and  side  effects  of  a  short  course  of  stereotacMc  body  radiaMon  therapy  compared  to  those  associated  with  a  standard  8-‐week  course  of  external  beam  radiaMon  therapy.

Novalis  Tx®  Treatment  San  Diego  Radiosurgery  uses  Novalis  Tx  to  treat  tumors  with  a  nonsurgical  process  called  stereotacMc  radiosurgery.  Typically  treatment  is  completed  within  five  sessions.  PaMents  can  usually  return  to  their  normal  rouMnes  once  treatment  is  complete.    During  treatment,  high  doses  of  radiaMon  are  delivered  to  tumors  with  pinpoint  precision.  A  typical  treatment  session  takes  about  15  minutes  and  does  not  require  surgery  or  sedaMon.  Due  to  the  extreme  accuracy  of  radiaMon  delivery,  side  effects,  if  any,  are  usually  minor  and  temporary.
