KIII broadcasted a Vaquero pep rally from 5 am - 7 am with
Sarah Acosta on channel 3 news on September 2. Students and
staff arrived extra early to show off San Diego High School's
Vaquero pride. During the pep rally, all the freshmen, sopho-
mores, juniors, and seniors, showed how much pride we have for
this year’s season as our varsity football team headed off to play
Hebbronville to kick off the 2016 football season.

The theme for the 2016-2017 school year is “The Future Starts
Today”, you may be thinking “well yeah that’s obvious” or
“what is that supposed to mean?”. It’s an extremely simple
concept, it means everything we have incorporated in the HS
school day is preparing our students for the “Future”. If some-
thing has happened in the past; losing credit because of failure
or attendance, not passing an EOC assessment, unimpressive
scores reflected on transcripts or anything else; we will make
plans to avoid that in the future. Additionally all students have a
College and Career Readiness course built into their schedule.
C&CR includes a curriculum unique to each grade level that
addresses issues common to that grade. For example, freshmen
may start with organizational and studying strategies while
Seniors are addressing financial aid, scholarships and college
applications. Admittedly not all students are interested in higher
education so C&CR also addresses resume creation, interview
techniques and employment opportunities. Another component
of C&CR is mentoring/monitoring Friday, which involves
teachers checking student attendance, grades and making
connections that hopefully allow students to feel supported.
Parents are encouraged to sign up for the parent portal if they
have not already done so and to attend our monthly principal
talks to stay in the loop. Remember the future starts today!!!

Football- San Diego, a team of pride! We
say not many other school train as hard as
us, not many work as hard as us, and that
may or may not be true, but one thing that
always comes to mind is our pride. Our
team has a whole lot of it. We may have
lost a game but we did not lose our pride.
That’s what takes us to new heights every
single day. We will have our wins and we
will have our loses, but it's like people say,
every dog has its day.
