JULY 2016 VOL. 9 ISSUE 7 AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MILITARY COMPTROLLERS San Diego Chapter Newsletter COMMUNICATOR 2016 FIVE STAR CHAPTER FROM THE ADMIN VICE PRESIDENT: It’s Membership Appreciation Month! Thank you, each of you, for working together as part of this great chapter. Without everyone’s participation we would not achieve all we do and maintain our excellence in the large chapter category. We exceeded our expectations, still I would like to challenge all our members for this upcoming year even further. We excel in our charity support (we have a lot of heart) and we have meetings as required with quality speakers. However we would like to hear from some of your commands that have not shared what great things you do every day in support of our fine Navy/Marines. You each attend these bi-monthly Lunch and Learns and occasionally some of you bring a guest. I would like to encourage each of you to invite and bring more of your office mates, your supervisors, spouses, friends, and share these trainings with them. Remember knowledge is power and although we learn every day we all get humanly complacent. I am also excited to grow our membership and so I ask each of you to sign up one new member. Thanks to those that already have. This should be an easy request. As our new fiscal year comes around we will be looking for more of you to take your membership to another level by running for a position on the ASMC San Diego Chapter Board. There are many of us that have been in positions for a long time and we are hoping to start mentoring some of you to take over. Fresh ideas and perspectives energize and help keep organizations afloat. ASMC San Diego will be hosting PDI 2017 so we need your help. Please sign up and help work this highly successful conference in America’s Finest City. Our chapter has hosted several times and we rocked it. Let’s continue the tradition! 2016 FIVE STAR CHAPTER

FROM THE ADMIN VICE PRESIDENT:

It’s Membership Appreciation Month!

ASMC LUNCH AND LEARN for JULY:

Based on this, some of the items we are in need of include:

Paper Products – Toilet Tissue, Paper Towels, Napkins, Plates, Bowls, Cups

Kitchen Staples- Creamer (Plain/Flavored), Splenda, Equal, Sugar, Cooking Oil, Spices, Mac & Cheese Cups, Dry

Goods (Cereal, Granola Bars, Nuts, Cake Mixes, Cookie Mixes, etc.), Snacks, Bottled Water, Soda and Juice.

** Everyone who makes a donation at the luncheon will be given a ticket for the gift

giveaway!!! Please let’s show our support to Fisher House.**

The Fisher House Foundation is very generous and

new Fisher Houses come fully furnished, but there

are things the Foundation does not provide or which

we need on an ongoing basis. In addition, while the

Navy funds day-to-day operational costs, including

utilities and salaries, each Fisher House is

responsible for the on-going provision of comfort

items, non-perishable foods, etc. through voluntary

donations.

QUIPS FROM ONE OF OUR PDI ATTENDEES: Meghann Stastny: As a first time attendee, I was really impressed by the whole PDI experience. I felt the event gave me a chance to learn, earn CPEs, and connect with a large network of DoD financial professionals. The discussions of current issues, including Audit Readiness and FM Certification, were very pertinent to my day-to-day job and it was interesting to get the DoD-wide perspective. In addition, most of the speakers were really knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. Overall, it was a very valuable experience and I think everyone should look forward to participating in San Diego's PDI next year!

PDI 2016

Many thanks to all those who participated in PDI 2016 in Orlando. With over 3200 attendees, it was a very

successful training and development event. Our

sincerest congratulations to recipients of ASMC National Awards - we are very proud of you, your hard

work, and your dedication to our profession and to ASMC.

Photos for PDI 2016 are up on our Facebook page. The link to our Facebook account is

bit.ly/ASMCfacebook. You do not need to have a Facebook Account to access our page or the photos,

but if you do, we ask that you “Like” our page!

As of July 7th, the presentation slides for PDI 2016

courses are available (mini-courses and workshop presentations) on the PDI website in PDF file format,

at www.pdi2016.org/workshop-slides. Virtual PDI 2016

For those who attended PDI 2016, access to Virtual

PDI was included in the PDI 2016 registration fee. For those who were unable to attend PDI 2016, Virtual

PDI allows individuals to earn CPEs for $99

(approximately $1 per available CPE/CET). As soon as Virtual PDI 2016 is available, we will let you know via

email.

Participation in Virtual PDI allows you to self-certify CPE/CETs for the CDFM Program; however, based

upon DoD policy, participation in Virtual PDI does not

provide direct credit toward meeting DoD FMCP requirements.

Membership Engagement

Are you receiving the latest information from ASMC, including your personal issues of the Armed Forces

Comptroller? Update your membership profile (http://bit.ly/ASMCmemberprofile) today and ensure

that you stay “in the know”!

To all active ASMC Members, we highly encourage you to consider applying for an ASMC scholarship. All of the details can be found under the "Awards Program" section on the ASMC San Diego website, http://www.asmcsandiego.org/awardsprogram.html. We would like to award a $500 scholarship for the spring semester and another one for the fall semester as well. The deadline for the first scholarship is March 31, 2017. Let's put your scholarship contributions to work and provide assistance for your professional education. The objectives of the National Scholarship Program are to recognize graduating high school seniors for academic achievement, to provide financial assistance that they may accomplish their future financial management baccalaureate educational goals, and to increase local chapter scholarship programs. The scholarships from ASMC National are available for non-ASMC members and high school students. If you know someone or you have relatives who are in high school senior, let them know this opportunity. All of the details can be found under the "Awards Program" section on the ASMC San Diego website, http://www.asmconline.org under the Awards/Recognition tab. Please contact me if you have any questions.
