How to Judge Your Own Chili Cook-Off• Select a few executives to be the judges. They will be responsible for determining which department can truly bring the heat! • To be fair, judges should not know which bowl was turned in by which department • Write each team name (department) on the bottom of large Styrofoam bowls and have each team fill their bowl with their best chili • Once the bowls have been turned in for judging, randomly write a number on the side of the bowl (1, 2, 3…) • Invite the judges in to taste each chili and keep track of their top 3 favorites • Each judge will submit their TOP 3 in order (For example: 1st Place Bowl #8 / 2nd Place Bowl #12 / 3rd Place Bowl #5) • Assign a scorekeeper • A 1st place vote is worth 3 points / a 2nd Place Vote is worth 2 points / a 3rd place vote is worth 1 point • The scorekeeper’s job is to determine which team earned the most points • Once the winning bowl has been decided, look on the bottom to see which team is the winner!

Be a Part of the Chili Fun!

XDI’s Credit Union Chili ChallengeEverybody knows that happy employees make for happy members, but the constant challenge is coming up with new ideas to keep your employees excited and engaged.

XDI’s annual Credit Union Chili Challenge offers your Credit Union the opportunity to participate in a great team-building and networking event that will boost employee morale and help raise money for charity.

And, your members can be part of the fun too!

For the past three years, Credit Unions from across the nation have traveled to sunny California, to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Racetrack, at the height of horse racing season to compete for $10,000 in total prize money for their favorite charities. What’s more, the Credit Union Chili Challenge is sanctioned by the Internation Chili Society, so the 1st Place winner qualifies to move on to the World’s Championship Homestyle Division where a grand prize of $5,000 and serious bragging rights are up for grabs.

But how do you get started? It’s easy, and the fun starts at your very own Credit Union.

The first step is picking a team, and we’ll show you four different ways to do it.

1. Choose Your TeamSimply choose who you would like to compete in the Chili Challenge, and sign them up. You’ll need a minimum of two team members, a head cook and at least one helper, but the more the merrier. Also, pick an awesome team name and theme, and be prepared to decorate your booth to impress.

2. Crock Pot Cook-OffThis is the easiest way to hold a fun event and get into the spirit of chili cook-off competition.

Encourage each department (or employee-chosen teams) to cook their best chili at home and bring it in a crockpot to be judged by your executives. See: How to Judge Your Own Chili Cook-Off

The winning team will move on to compete in the Chili Challenge.

3. Onsite Employee Cook-OffIf you’re ready to ramp up the competition and offer your employees a great team-building event, host a chili cook-off onsite.

Here’s what you will need:

• One 6ft table & 2 chairs for each team.

• One portable camping stove per team. These can be purchased, rented - or ask around, your employees probably already have one at home.

• Each team is responsible for bringing their own ingredients and cooking utensils (pots, pans, knives, cutting board, etc.).

• If you are having the event outside, you might want to encourage each team to bring a pop-up tent in case of weather or to provide sun protection.

• Encourage each department to come up with a fun team name and decorate their booth. Offer prizes for the best team name and best booth decorations.

• Bowls and spoons for judging. See: How to Judge Your Own Chili Cook-Off

4. Onsite Chili Cook-Off Blowout!Take the Employee Cook-Off to the next level by inviting your members to participate. This is a great way to boost employee morale and get your members involved in the Chili Fun!

Host an onsite employee chili cookoff as described above.

Offer two winners:

Judges Choice - Select a few executives to judge People’s Choice – Let your members vote for their favorite See: How to Judge Your Own Chili Cook-Off

Optional:

Invite the local community to get involved and set up booths: Fire Department, Police Department, etc.

Include other family friendly activities: Game booths, jumpy house for kids, car show, arts and craft booths, Etc.
