Acknowledgement

I am deeply indebted to the following people for their

support in finishing this project.

I would publically like to thank my husband

Pradeep Thakur for inspiring me and lending his support

at every stage whenever I needed him. Without him this

book couldn’t have been presented to the world

I would also like to specially thank both my tiny

tots Aarav & Anav for letting me write this book. When

I was writing this book I wasn’t staying with my in-laws.

As my husband got posted to Nashik I also had to move

with both my son Aarav aged 2.5yr & Anav aged 4

months at that time. As a homemaker looking after both

the kids alone with the entire household work was

difficult. With everything writing this book seemed quite

impossible to me initially. I thank my kids for showing

some mercy on me and keeping some amount of

patience that really helped me complete this book.

Last but not the least I would like to thank my

publisher Educreation team for making my book even

better.

“Author’s Message”

Our life is what we do with our life. It is series of events,

emotions and wishes. In this world, everyone has his or

her own wishes. Few have small and few have big

depending on their capacity and thinking, but not all

achieve what they wish. Why only few get to achieve

their wishes? Have you ever had a thought on this? Wait

a minute let me deliberate. The cause behind their

success seems to be their willingness and seriousness for

it. You can’t simply become serious by just wishing for

something; for that you need to dedicate yourself

thoroughly and turn your only wishes into your goals. In

Hindi, it is said that “Kaal Kare so Aaj kar, Aaj kare so

Ab….” Which means, “What you have to do tomorrow

do it today and what you have to do today, do it right

away.” This saying has inspired me a lot. Because you

never know what would happen in the next moment, as

life is quite unpredictable. I have heard that human soul

does not rest in peace if it had any wish left behind.

Similarly, in my story, Ved had few goals in his life but

before he could touch them, he died an unnatural death.

But as I said above his soul did not rest in peace and

came back as alive to fulfill his dreams. However, it is

just a story. We cannot be so lucky like my fictitious

character, Ved, who could fulfill all his dreams even

after his death because reality is way different from the

fiction. We have only one life that is too unpredictable,

as we may not know if we would see tomorrow’s sunrise

or not. That’s why friends, I insist don’t push things on

tomorrow do it today. live your today, and give yourself

to the day, tomorrow will automatically be yours.

Preface

The book title “Alive after death” must have put you

under questions, nothing is immortal then how one can

remain alive after death? Your question is certain, but I

say it is possible. When I say, it is possible to remain

alive, I think about our nations great leaders,

philosopher, great inventers, famous players in their

field, famous celebrities and many more who gave their

life to their passion and did amazing jobs, so that today

they still remain alive in our heart, mind and in our day

today’s activities. My story is the journey of highly

ambitious young man, Ved Samrat, who achieved his

dreams under weird circumstances. What were those

weird circumstances and how could he achieve his

goals? This book tells you about this, and travels you

throughout his amazing journey of his success. Though I

have only seen a little part of the world but throughout

my experience of life, I have seen people who keep

dreaming about something and do not work toward

achieving those dreams. One day as time passes, their

dreams are vanished. They die with the great regret of

not doing anything to achieve them. So friends, I don’t

want you to regret at the end of your life. Work towards

achieving your dreams today right now while reading

this book because you may not be able to do anything if

it is too late.

Alive After Death

There was a grave tension prevailing inside the house.

The breaking news on television shocked every member

of the family. Mrs. Samrat started crying as her only son,

Ved Samrat, did not return from a trip. After watching

the news, it was confirmed that he was missing.

Ved Samrat, a 21-year old guy with 5.10-feet

height, curly hair and fair complexion, was the only son

of Vijay Samrat and Rakhi Samrat. His eyes were deep

and full of dreams. He was a true optimist. He was a

state-level swimming champion. Just twenty-one days

were left to participate at national level swimming

competition when the news of him being washed away

in a flood was telecasted on the news channels. Two

days ago, he went to the Gagan Dam with three of his

friends. All of them came back except him. What must

have happened there?

Two days ago:

It was a summer of May. Ved had appeared his

B.Com final year exam and was on vacation. It was an

evening of May 5. Ved just reached home after meeting

his college friends. It was half past seven.

“Ved let me remind you that you are now on

vacation, you should relax at home, but surprisingly,

your schedule is so tight during these days too. I am now

bothered about your health, beta.” Mrs. Samrat

expressed her concern.

“Mom, believe me, everyone on this earth gets only

one life to live for; considering that one should not let go

any opportunity and do everything which is right. That’s

why I don’t want to waste a single day of my life and

what I do regularly are just normal activities, mom. I like

going to gym because I am a fitness freak, though my

gym timing is too early, 5 to 7 am, but that’s fine. Since

I don’t like to go late for the gym, I manage to reach at

5. What else? From 11 am to 3 pm, I go for swimming

and you know it mom that swimming is my passion, and

I cannot just ignore it. After doing all this, whatever time

I get, I help dad in his mobile shop. Again, this is one of

the jobs which I like to do,” Ved took a sip of tea.

“Hummm, and after doing all this, whatever time

you get for yourself, you spend that time with your

friends right? You have absolutely no time for your

mom. Whenever I have to go outside, I feel so alone and

left out you know! And ….” Mrs. Samrat said making a

sad face. She swallowed few words.

Ved just placed an empty teacup on a table. He

came near to his mom, and placing his hand on her

shoulder, he said, “Mom you know, I don’t like to go to

the market.”

“Of course, I don’t want to take you to the market;

apart from shopping, there are so many other household

jobs to do. You can at least help me pay utility bills, you

are now grown up my son, you should also know about

it.” Mrs. Samrat said and walked toward the kitchen.

“Ok mom, I will remember this.” His voice was

subdued.

“Mom, I want to let you know something.” He

whispered.

“Say,” Mrs. Samrat asked taking a seat on a dinning

chair.

“Mom, I and three of my friends have planned for a

two-day trip to Gagan Dam. I know my darling mom

will not stop me from going there.” He said with a

naughty smile.

“See, that’s why I say that you don’t like to stay at

home, that’s what bothers me always.” Mrs. Samrat said

with a little irritation on her face.

“Mom, there is nothing to bother about. You know

Arjun, Saurabh and Anmol personally. All of them are

my childhood friends, and you know all of them very

well. When they are with me, you should be less

bothered about anything.” Ved said.

“I know Arjun very well. He is the one who fought

with few crazy boys in the second year, and because of

him, both of you were hospitalized for a day. How can I

forget him?” She said raising her eyebrows and staring

at Ved questionably.

“Oh! Mom, please don’t dig out the history. It was

just a mistake what he did and he got paid for that very

well.” Ved said taking up Arjun’s side a bit.

“Well, I know you are very fond of your friends, so

you won’t listen to anything against them. Anyway, so

when have you planned to go, may I know?” Mrs.

Samrat asked curiously.

“It is tomorrow, mom. We will be back on the 8th

evening.” Ved answered immediately.

“But there are so many other good places in

Maharashtra to roam around. I don’t understand what’s

there in the Gagan Dam! Why do you always like to go

around water? Ved, it’s risky, you know.” Mrs. Samrat

warned.

“Mom, I am a swimming champion. You know my

thoughts only wander around water. You see mom, one

day I will also win a gold medal and become a world

swimming champion, it’s my dream!” While saying all

this, he was lost somewhere, may be in his dreams. “And

I will buy our own house one day.” He further added.

“May God bless you my son.”

Ved Samrat was a young winsome lad, who was

brought up in a middle-class family. He might have not

got whatever he wished to, due to his financial

condition. Nevertheless, his dreams were pretty big. He

was a person who used to live for his dreams. Amongst

all his dreams, few were to win a gold medal in

swimming and become a world champion, to buy a

house and to arrange dinner for his father with Mr.

Amitabh Bachchan to make his father’s dream true.

It was an early morning of 6th May when

melodious music started playing. It was Ved’s mobile

ringing.

“Hi Ved, are you awake?” It was Arjun on the other

side.

“You woke me up Arjun, you crazy brat, why did

you call me up? You have broken my sound sleep. I had

put my alarm on at 5 am”. Ved screamed.

“It’s 5 past 10 brother! Your clock is 10 minutes

late.” Arjun said.

“No, you are 15 minutes ahead, anyway, let’s get

ready. See you at 6 am near my gate.” Ved said.

“Ok!” Arjun replied.

Call ended.

They had decided to take Saurabh’s car. At 6:10

am, the car was at Ved’s gate. Anmol decided to drive a

car, and the journey began ….

It was a 12-hour drive to reach the destination. Car

had just taken a turn on the Express Highway, and Arjun

fell asleep. It was just few minute’s nap that he was

enjoying and then,

TADAAAAK.

He received a hi-five on his face. It was Ved who

had gotten a chance to place his five fingers on Arjun’s

right cheek.

“What the hell! Who is this?” Arjun woke up

screaming dreadfully.

“Have you come here to sleep?” Ved shouted and

continued, “We are going on a trip Arjun, and you are

sleeping? I can’t believe this brother! Come on wake

up.”

“Err, you are too much sometimes.” Arjun felt like

killing him at that moment.

“Ved, how is your practice going on? Wow, you

will swim for the national level this time. We are proud

of you.” Saurabh said.

“Yeah, it’s going pretty well. Just nineteen days to

go. My coach was not so happy with this trip. He wanted

me to give my 100% time for the practice rather.”

Saying this, Ved took a deep breath.

“Don’t worry, Ved. I am sure you will win the

tournament this time also.” Anmol asserted. He seemed

pretty confident, while saying this.

“Of course, I will. You know guys, my dream is to

win a gold medal for India at the international level, and

I know I will obtain that one day.” Ved said quickly.

As it was an early morning, roads were free and less

congested. Windows of the racing car were wide open.

Fresh morning air was giving the feel of a cooler passing

through the cheek. Green trees on both the sides of the

road were saluting the passers-by, and speed of the car

was touching and leaving the 100 number and then ….

Explosion ςςςς

“Oh shit! What happened?” Ved reacted anxiously.

“Anmol take a car by the road side. I guess the tire

has got punctured.” Arjun realized quickly.

“Oh god, my dad is going to kill me …. Guys!

Please check and repair it anyhow.” Saurabh was badly

perturbed.

“Come on Saurabh, stop panicking… let us at least

check.” Ved interrupted, “and please don’t tell me that

your dad will kill you for the damage of the tire!”

Slowly, a car was forced to stop by the roadside.

Saurabh got down swiftly. He was the first to see the

face of the broken tire.

It was front left tire of the car that had got exploded.

“Oh it’s gone!” Ved asserted sadly.

“Gone means …?” Saurabh said and his face turned

white in stress.

“Dumbo, it has got badly punctured, do you have a

stepney?” Ved said being more clear about the situation.

“Yeah, I think so.” Saurabh said rubbing his head

against the nails.

Fortunately, there was an extra tire inside the car.

They replaced torn tire with the new one. Once again the

journey started.

After hours of drive, they had now completed the

half of their journey. It was mid of the day, and hunger

was striking with all its means as they had not taken

breakfast and were empty stomach. So it was high time

for all to feed something to their roaring stomach.

“Guys, please look for a restaurant or a dhaba. No

longer I can control my hunger. Whichever eating place

comes first, please don’t forget to stop the car”. Arjun

was crying like a child.

“Oh yes baby, why not.” Anmol said teasing him.

“I can see a dhaba ahead. Anmol, you better stop

there, ok. Thank god, we found it otherwise. I was about

to die of starvation.” Arjun had a habit of overreacting

and acting little over the subject.

Gusty bad air coming out from the dhaba had

enough reason for not entering into a filthy looking

dhaba.

“Are you sure, you guys want to eat here?” Ved

asked all shrinking his nose repeatedly restricting bad air

to come close to it.

“No, even I am not very keen on eating here.

Everything is so unpleasant here.” Saurabh supported

Ved.

“Guys please, all I know is, I am extremely hungry,

and I can’t wait anymore, and the rest doesn’t matter.

Please walk in.” Arjun pushed Ved and Saurabh

forward.

Dhaba wasn’t that much crowded even at the lunch

hours, so they quickly managed to occupy their seats.

Although others were busy going through a menu, Arjun

was done with his orders – “Masur dal with roti” his

favorite. The food was delicious which was quite

unexpected and eating together made all happier.

“Food was great. I didn’t expect that shanty dhaba

would serve such a delicious food.” Anmol commented.

“Exactly, I too didn’t expect that.” Ved said

fastening his seat belt.

“Now, no more stopping ok or else we will land up

reaching late.” Saurabh said in a way to remind all about

their destination.

The car was taken back on the road with full swing.

Now, all tummies were full and the journey had become

more enjoyable.

Just half an hour’s journey was left and what …

DASH… DASH… DASH… Anmol dashed a car on

another car.

This time, for a moment, everybody in the car got

scared, after all, they had met with an accident.

“Oh God…! Oh God…!” Saurabh said frightfully.

Nobody could guess how big or small the accident

was until they all got down from the car. Fortunately,

nothing severe had happened, and all of them were safe.

People on another car were safe too. Just the right side

mirror of Saurabh’s car got broken … and the backside

of another car had slightly got damaged. A car was

carrying a small family – husband, wife and a kid who

may be around 2–3-year old. They seemed to be well

educated and humble too.

Though they were not creating scene, all four boys

were scared to face them as it was Anmol’s fault that had

made it happen. While three were hesitating to face

them, Ved showed courage to talk to the man who was

driving the car.

“Sir I hope you all are ok…we are extremely sorry

… really.” Ved was struggling hard to put apology in

words.

“By God’s grace, we are Ok, you had almost killed

us but thank god, things didn’t turn out to be that bad.

Are you all ok?” Man said with a lot of patience.

He could have slapped all hard but decided to

remain nice to them. He was a gentleman who was

patient, understanding and mature

“Yes sir, we are Ok.We are once again extremely sorry

for damaging your car. Let’s go to a nearby garage, we

will bear the expenses….” Ved said pointing out his

finger toward the damaged part of the car.

“No thanks. I have insurance for my car, so you

don’t worry. But before I go, I would like to give you an

advice. You all are very young, perhaps you might be

going somewhere on a trip. While driving, avoid

listening to the loud music. Don’t make lots of noise

inside the car and please follow driving etiquettes.” he

turned around to Anmol when he was saying this. “Take

care.” He showed a thumps up to him.

“Thank you sir, that’s so kind of you.We will

definitely keep your advice in our mind throughout our

journey.” Anmol replied.

“Thank you, sir.” All said together and waved him

off. He too waved them back and went.

“One after the other such bad incidences are

happening with us. I think our timing is wrong, we

should not have come now.” Anmol said anxiously.

“What nonsense are you talking Anmol! You sound

too superstitious, now keep mum and take a car to a

garage; we need to replace the mirror.” Ved shouted on

him.

“Wait! Wait! I will drive this time. Please guys, if

he continues driving, he is either gonna kill us or will

end up damaging my dad’s car again.” Saurabh placed

his palm on Anmol’s shoulder, “bro, I hope u understand

my concern. I want safety of all. I can’t allow you to kill

us….” Saurabh said ironically.

“Yeah please,” Anmol agreed.

“Thank God! What a relief... Guys we are in safe

hands now….”Arjun said and winked at Ved.

“Yes, absolutely out of danger.” Ved said and with

him all burst in giggles.

Saurabh started driving and all eight eyes were

searching out for a garage; after all, it was a long journey

replacing a mirror was a top most priority for all. After

driving for 15 minutes, they finally found a garage. It

looked more like an old broken hut than a garage. Ved

was the first to recognize it.

“Saurabh, there you have a garage ahead.Slow

down and take a car to left the side of the road.” Ved

directed him.

“Oh! That’s a garage! It doesn’t look like though.

It’s very difficult to recognize it.” Saurabh said.

“You don’t need to think a lot while searching for a

garage; a dangling tire speaks it all.” Ved got off the car.

A boy in his teenage was sitting on an old rusted

iron chair with earphone into his ears. Perhaps, he was

listening to the music. The way he was shaking his neck

and upper body backward and forward was enough to

know that he was listening to the loud music. He was

completely lost in it that he didn’t even bother to know,

there were customers for him.

“Hello…” Saurabh tried calling a boy, but in vain.

He didn’t even look at him. Was he intentionally

ignoring them or he actually hadn’t seen them at all?

All four friends started looking at each other’s

face. They were already getting late, and this silly kid

was acting stupid. Ved finally went ahead and removed

the earphone from his ears. A boy didn’t show any

gesture on his shrunken dull face. He just looked at Ved

through his blank eyes.

“Where is your boss?” Ved asked in an annoying

tone.

“Yes, tell me. I am the boss here.” Boy said

confidently as if he was the owner of some five-star

hotel.

“Ok, and who is going to repair our car?” Ved

asked surprisingly, but more annoyingly this time.

“Me.” Boy answered.

“Do you work here?” Ved was again in amaze.

“Yes, tell me.What the work is?” Boy asked.

“Humm, isn’t there anybody else?” Ved hesitated to

give him a job as he resembled too young to be trusted

for any job.

“What is your problem? Why don’t you tell me?

what is wrong with your car? I will first see, if it is my

sort of job otherwise I will call my father.” A boy finally

answered in detail.

“Oh, so this is your father’s garage and you help

him here. Are you sure, you can repair a car? Because,

you seem too young for this job.” Ved raised a doubt.
