CHUCKIE’S PLANNER

This planner is for younger students that need more space to record their assignments. Each day has it’s own separate sheet. It, too, can be used and altered, if opened as a Microsoft Word file. It is helpful for students that need reminders on what materials need to be taken home daily.

Symbols can be added or deleted if opened as a Microsoft Word file. Other symbols that can be cut and pasted into a document include:

$ = notes %= file & = papers ' = disc or USB drive

The After School Plan at the bottom of the sheet provides a place where

students can arrange their after school schedule. Here appointments, activities, homework, meals and free time can be noted.

Once printed be sure to fill in the month and dates for each sheet

The blue column offers symbols that can help remind the student which items to bring home. ! = Handouts N = Notes 3 = 3- ring binder & ! = Textbook

The green column is a place to record the estimated time versus the actual time for homework completion.

The white column offers space to record assignments.

The orange column provides a box to check when the assignments are complete.

STOP PROCRASTINATION

1. Make Checklists Daily distractions can prevent you from getting important things done. Utilizing checklists can help solve this problem. A checklist can record “to do” activities that require your attention. Once you have created your checklist, you can prioritize those items by placing numbers next to them designating the order of importance. When tasks have been completed, they can be checked or crossed off the list. 2. Set Priorities Consider your deadlines and your desire to meet these deadlines when prioritizing. Those items that need to be done as soon as possible should be tackled first. It is always best to get tasks that you do not particularly want to complete done at your earliest convenience. By addressing those items at the top of your list, you can be assured that your day will only improve.

3. Offer Yourself Rewards If you have a favorite show on television, tell yourself that you cannot watch it unless you get certain tasks done. Other rewards can be a favorite food, a movie, a game, or entertainment. 4. Communicate Tell people what you plan to accomplish. This will promote a feeling of accountability. 5. Create Time Limits Sometimes when we are doing things that we do not enjoy, we tend to work slowly. Remember, the more focused you are, the sooner you will be finished. You can also set a timer to encourage yourself to complete a task in an allocated amount of time. 6. Do it Once Once you start, push through until you are finished. Pick items that you can complete in the allocated time so that you can check them off your list.

About the Author: Dr. Erica Warren

Dr. Warren has always aspired to empower the spirit of those who struggle with learning. So after finishing a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, Dr. Warren tailored a special degree program that combined course-work and research in Educational Psychology, Special Education, School Psychology, and Adult Education.*In 1999, Dr. Warren opened the doors of Learning to Learn in Ossining NY. What started as a private practice to help individual students maximize their learning potential and find joy in the learning process, blossomed into a place where students, parents, teachers and schools can receive educational support, materials, training and advice. Her website, www.learningtolearn.biz offers an ever-growing wealth of information, links, materials and support. Learning to Learn now offers:

" One to one educational support " Teacher training and workshops " Educational materials " Cognitive therapy " School consultations " Learning profiles and reports " Technology & software advice " Student advocacy

In response to the success of Dr. Warren’s multisensory and mindful approach, she created Good Sensory Learning, www.goodsensorylearning.com, and Dyslexia Materials, www.dyslexiamaterials.com, where student-inspired, fun, multisensory teaching and cognitive tools are published and available to the public.
