Samford University Pete Hanna Center Samford University, located in Birmingham, Alabama, hired Stanmar to plan, design and build the Pete Hanna Center, envsioned as the centerpiece of student life and athletics on campus. Following the campus wide Georgian architectural style, this 150,000 SF, 5000 seat arena was artfully sited and positioned on a sloping site to mask the large volume and bring the building elements to a scale appropriate for the style. In addition to the large arena, the facility also houses a large fitness center for the general student population, offices, classrooms, varsity liſting areas, and team locker rooms. e arena houses Division 1 basketball and volleyball programs and tournaments, but also was designed from an acoustical and seating perspective to host graduations, concerts, and other events such as the Harlem Globetrotters. Completed in 2007, the Pete Hanna Center is the central hub for all physical activity and social life on campus, with views over the central quad, football stadium, baseball stadium, and surrounding countryside.
