start with

Here you will begin to brainstorm, & discover which ideas are your best ones.

Most brilliant ideas begin looking like bad ones. Perfection is the enemy of

creativity. So let loose and give yourself permission – put all your ideas out

there. There is no judgement in Level 2. Be free.

untap what’s possibleIt is time to break down your barriers and get outside of your comfort zone. Open yourself

to think through the crazy ideas, because we know they can often lead to great things.

We suggest starting your creative process with a plan. Block time on your calendar at a time

when you’ll be in a good headspace.

If the outdoors inspire you, sit outside. If you need to put your headphones on, jam away.

Jot down interesting thoughts. It may help to organize your ideas by writing them, and then

grouping them together.

You can do this as a team, or you can fly solo and come together to gather and share

your thoughts. However, at the end of this level the team must have a few favorite ideas

they agree to move forward with.

...from inside the companyIdeation requires input from sources inside the company to frame the objectives and re-

quirements. As you narrow down your ideas as a team – think through how your ideas may

impact the company. Some things to consider are:

» Company mission statement

» Company strategy objectives

» Key performance indicators

» Discussions with co-workers, particularly those in different groups and fields of

expertise.  This is a frequent habit of successful innovators.  Discoveries are

often found in the gaps between business groups of job functions.  Innovators

consistently reach across these boundaries.

“What about your solution is different than others?”

“How could it be different?”

“In a ‘perfect’ world, what would this look like?”

“What is the one question no one has ever asked about this?”

“What will happen if we don’t do this?”

ask challenging questions

2b

Great answers come from good questions. Innovators stay curious about the world around

them and challenge the system. If things have “always been done this way,” ask why. It’s ok

to rock the boat. So if it’s a question people are afraid to ask, that’s a good thing.

Be bold, curious and do your research. Understanding how things work and why they don’t

is only going to help you succeed in this quest.

Talk to your friends and family. Talk to your co-workers, and your teammates. Reach out

to a broader, more diverse group of people. Set aside some time to simply evaluate what’s

happening all around you and ask them questions about their shopping experiences.

Raw ideas can have great potential but they are not yet ready for testing with potential customers.  Level 3 is all about refining.

We want to help you fully understand what impact your ideas may have, what really matters and how it can impact the customer experience in powerful ways.

Go through your list of ideas and consider each idea based on relevant criteria such as problem space, value proposition, customer type, distribution channel, delivery platform and technical components. Can any of the ideas be logically combined? If doing so strengthens the ideas without defocusing them, consider combining them.

The end goal is to have one idea that you want to implement.

You have 1 week to complete Level 3.

As a team, you wil l agree on the single idea you want to move forward with. Then complete and submit a Lean Canvas which dives deeper into your business solution.

Lean Canvas will help you define the key elements of your idea. It can be read in seconds yet high-lights the critical elements of an opportunity. You will likely make changes to the canvas after you begin. Review with a few co-workers. Is it clear to them? Does it make sense? Is it compelling?

To download a copy of the Lean Canvas as well as the scorecard visit the RebelQuest7 website at:https://one.walmart.com/content/uswire/en_us/company/community/culture/rq7/level-3.html

All business proposals should have a compelling “Wow!” This is the moment in a customer’s experience when they say “Wow!” It might also be described as an unexpected burst of delight.

w h a t d o y o u r p e e r s s a y ?As you start to develop your Lean Canvas, seek feedback from your co-workers who represent your target customer group. Is your solution relevant to how they shop? Discuss ways their feedback could alter the solution for the better. This begins your journey to understand just how your solution impacts our customers.

t h e R e b e l Q u e s t 7 s c o r e c a r dThe purpose of the scorecard is not to rank ideas but to elicit higher value feed-back and reveal compelling ideas and solutions.

The scorecard was crowdsourced by a broad population within Walmart. It was designed to pinpoint new and different compelling solutions that directly influence our problem statement. You can find the scorecard on the RebelQuest7 website.

Note: Incomplete Lean Canvas submissions will NOT be scored and will not advance to Level 4. Writing N/A in a field will also be treated as an incomplete Lean Canvas. All teams that complete a Lean Canvas will receive their scorecard back.

You will ask them questions, gather their feedback, discover  what changes you need to make. Then – when you think you’re done – you retest again.

Remember middle school science class? Don’t worry, we won’t make you dissect any frogs. But it is time to take your whole idea apart, and then put it back together.

It’s time to start having conversations with people who are in your personal net-work at work and home and also represent the customer population your idea is designed for. They are the only ones who can answer your questions.

We don’t encourage you to approach actual Walmart customers outside your personal networks. Do not approach Walmart customers in store or online to test your data.

You can identify who fits the definition of your potential customer from your family, friends, and co-workers, and reach out to them. Share your ideas and gather feedback. Take good notes, and listen, listen, listen. What they have to say is important.

1. What is your problem & solution statement? • What is your idea good for?  • What problem are you solving?

2. Who is your ideal customer?  • Who will be impacted by your idea? • How will it change their daily life for the better?

3. What is our competition doing?   • Are they offering this currently?   • Do they have something similar?

4. How are you going to share your idea with customers?  • Will it be a slide show, a series of questions, a video, wireframes, or something else?

Hint: you may have answered some of these in your Lean Canvas.

As a team, use the questions below to start thinking about gathering feedback from your potential customers. This needs to be simple, no longer than a few sentences.  This is where you really start to think about how your idea could create that magical customer experience.

You get the idea. Now, here’s your challenge.

Let’s look at the idea of putting Vision Centers in Walmart stores. May-be the original concept looked like this:

Customers can bring their prescription in to have eyeglasses made, or pick up contact lenses while they shop.

Great idea. During the discovery period, feedback showed that custom-ers also wanted to have an eye exam.

Customers can schedule an eye exam, get their prescription and order glasses or contacts in a single visit, making Walmart Vision Centers a one-stop shop for all their optical needs.

» Prepare a 10-minute presentation on your project using the RebelQuest7 Kickbox presentation template from the site as a guide

» Review the presentation with your team

» Show your presentation to another group of co-workers, or a family member or friend to get some outside feedback

» Practice, practice, practice

You are not asking for a zillion dollars just because. You are asking for the specific time, re-sources and people to make it happen. You might just need enough money to bring your idea into development so you can test it out further. You are also asking for the support from Walmart leaders to guide your project to the finish line.
