DESCRIPTION We are the third owners of Makarma having purchased her in 2002 for extended cruising. Since then she has been our comfortable home and has taken us safely across the Bay of Biscay, down the coast of Portugal, through the Straits of Gibraltar, North Africa to cruise in the Med. Everything about Makarma is set up for a couple to cruise in comfort and safety. She is remarkably sea-kindly - she does not pound to windward, her decks stay dry and downwind she does not corkscrew down the waves. The Aries windvane steering keeps her on course whatever the strength of the wind. In fact, the harder it blows, the better the Aries operates. Her wide flush decks allow for safe and easy working, deep toe rails add to the feeling of security.

CONSTRUCTION Makarma was built to last with no skimping on the weight or quality of structural materials. The heavily laminated GRP hull has a white gelcoat finish. The deck is of 20mm marine ply laid on 50mm x 100mm laminated mahogany deck beams. The ply is glassed over with the laminations taken up to the bulwarks and the whole deck is overlaid with 9 mm teak. Teak toerail capping. Teak rubbing strake, cockpit coamings and cockpit seating. Teak cockpit grate (new 2012)

The main cabintop side coamings are of 19mm marine ply except the forward face which is 25mm marine ply. There are 8 non-opening gunmetal ports in the hull with deadlight covers which combined with the deck hatches provide a light and airy interior. The forward doghouse has one large opening Lewmar deck hatch plus two non-opening portholes. The interior above the waterline is insulated with 18mm polyurethane foam, glassed over and lined with mahogany. This makes for a quiet interior with no condensation even in extreme cold. Most of the rest of the boat interior is attractively fitted out with mahogany and some cedar.
