TECH TIP - HELP KIDS POST, COMMENT AND UPLOAD RESPONSIBLY 1 Be a role model. Before you post a photo of your kid on social media, ask if it's OK to share. Not only will you give them control over their own digital footprint, you'll also be showing them what you expect them to do with others' photos. 2 Use privacy settings. Together, go through all the settings on new apps to make sure you both know what information your kids are sharing. Especially in the beginning, it's better to share very little. 3 Question everything. Before you sign school forms or register for a new online service for your kid, check the privacy policy to see what kind of information you're giving the school or company and who they're sharing it with. Sharing some data might be required, but you may be able to opt out of others. Talk with your kid about why it's important to protect your personal data. 4 Use a celebrity as an example. With older kids, choose a celebrity or another famous person and look through their Twitter or Instagram posts with your kid. Discuss your impressions of them based on what they post. Ask your kid what kind of image they'd like to project online. https://www.commonsense.org/education/family-tips/k-5-digital-footprint-and-identity - Mrs. Contee, Tech Coordinator

SCHOOL-WIDE WELLNESS DAY Our purpose was to implement a school-wide wellness (SWW) policy to encourage awareness of life-long healthy habits by: 1) Nutrition Education, 2) Physical & Health Education, 3) Communicate information on health and wellness to parents, and to 4) Focus on HOM Risk-Taking (Relationship Bonding). Our goal was to get 100% of our students and staff to participate which in result turned out to be a huge success!!!

4

At 9:30am, our Kinders got an early start this year along with their Book Buddies so they could have at least an hour of activity and make it back in time for lunch. With the guidance of our veteran students, our kinders got to experience their first Wellness day with teamwork and self-confidence.

At 10am, SLES was ready to roll participating in over 20 stations on campus with activities such as cup stacking, dance, and scooter racing! Students were given an ice cold treat as well as a packet of fruit snacks for their participation. We really focused on wellness this year designing three new stations: 1) Fitness Station 1: Determine Standing Long Jump, Vertical Jump, Curl-ups, and Push-ups, 2) Fitness Station 2: Determine student stature numbers, and 3) Fitness Station 3: Students researching their results in our Computer Lab to see if they were ‘healthy or ‘not.

In Physical Education, this is Standards 3 & 4 focusing on Activity Participation and Fitness. Being physically fit and enjoying the activities we choose is a life-long commitment to health and wellness. I would like to thank EVERY parent volunteer who came out and helped us set up that morning, break down, and ran stations if any. Thank you to our U.S. Navy Crew, State DOH Crew, Kapolei HS Performing Arts Dept. & Kaiser Permanente, 7Vegans HI, MoHS AFJROTC & Jamba Juice Moanalua location for spending time with our SLES family. I hope everyone enjoyed the manapuas we provided this year and waters. To the SLES Faculty and Staff, thank you for your flexibility & open mindedness whenever and wherever I/we needed at spontaneous moments. Most appreciation to Mrs. & Mr. Fujimoto, Mr. Harauchi, and Mrs. Odoya & our PBIS crew: 4Life! We set our mark, game planned, executed, and accomplished. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and we hope to do ourselves again next year! Cheers!!! – K. Ramos, PE Teacher
