The World LPG Association (WLPGA) is very pleased to support the South Asia LPG Summit from 3-4 March in Dhaka.

LPG is a versatile fuel and is used in hundreds of applications globally. The most popular application is for cooking in the residential and commercial sectors but LPG is also used extensively in the commercial, industrial, agricultural and transport markets. LPG is also an important alternative to naphtha as a feedstock for chemical production

The demand for LPG in Bangladesh continues to grow making it one of the most vibrant emerging markets in the world. Following the government’s decision a few years ago to displace natural gas in the residential and transport sectors with LPG, growth continues strongly with the market expected to double by 2025 and to reach 1.4 mn t by 2040.

There are 3 billion people in the world still relying on traditional fuels such as charcoal, wood, coal and kerosene. These are fuels that cause serious health issues to users and their families as well as creating deforestation problems and environmental damage. LPG is a reliable, clean alternative to these dirty traditional fuels and Bangladesh presents a real opportunity for the LPG industry as the population switches to using LPG for cooking.

The total global demand for LPG now exceeds 300 mn t and the Asia Pacific region is the fastest growing market in the world for the product.

Good industry practices are the key to a safe and sustainable LPG industry and training and knowledge transfer is critical in order to achieve these objectives. The WLPGA has held training workshops all over the world, and several in Dhaka for the LPG industry in the past couple of years. We hope the industry here has found these workshops useful. Subjects such as the management of LPG cylinders, reticulated (piped) LPG systems, and safety management are just some of the subjects that the WLPGA focuses on.

The WLPGA looks forward to supporting all its current and future members in Bangladesh, and we hope to continue to assist in growing the LPG market here in a safe and sustainable way.
