The new version brings with it a big improvement in available equipment, now oering not only greater driving
performance, but cutting-edge technology which you could previously only nd available in select models of the
Land Cruiser 200.
Because of this I’m sure that the new Land Cruiser Prado (ocially named the Land Cruiser 150 Series) will continue
to be the same great success which the previous generation has been for our markets.
50 years ago the rst Land Cruiser was born. Today it’s this nameplate is synonymous with strength, confort and
performance on a global scale.
With the vehicle’s evolution came a change of consumer preferences, and while the Land Cruiser continued to be a
strong vehicle within the Toyota lineup, a ever larger group of people were searching the model’s DNA in a more
compact version, especially to meet the needs of the European market.
With this in mind the Land Cruiser Prado was born. Now entering its 4th generation, it has been a tremendous success
in nearly every country it is sold, and ours is not the exception. The previous generation bore witness to this, selling
high volumes within the region almost right up the launch of this new generation. Good Selling!Hellmuth Solé

INTRODUCTION

More than 25 years have passed since the launch of the Light Duty 70 Series and sales of the Land
Cruiser Prado continue to climb.
The new version brings with it a new series of available equipment, now oering not only improvement
in performance, but state of the art technology which before could only be found in select models of the
Land Cruiser 200.
It’s because of this that the Prado will continue to be the same resounding success as the previous
generation for our markets.
The Land Cruiser Prado is born of the original Land Cruiser. It’s rst generation
actually didn’t have the Prado name, rather it was actually considered a variation
of the Land Cruiser 70 Series. This variation was known as the “Light Duty” Land
Cruiser 70 Series, indicating that it continued to be a Land Cruiser, but was
designed for a less intense use than the Land Cruiser of the time. The main reason
in developing this model was in response to changing consumer trends, which
were looking for a compact and robust SUV, which at the same time oered good
performance on paved roads.
The second generation was launched at the
end of the 1980’s and with it the Land
Cruiser Prado name was ocially born. This model, also known as the Land
Cruiser 90 Series, was radically dierent from the rst generation. It followed the
Land Cruiser Station Wagon’s cues of becoming a more luxurious SUV, adding
features which were previously unknown in the rst generation.
The third generation, or Land Cruiser 120 Series, sought to build on this
concept, oering even more luxury without losing its essence. Its design was
completely renewed and important strides were made in both its on-road as well as it’s
o-road performance.

The engineers at Toyota used the key words “Intelligent Modern” when designing the Land Cruiser Prado. With this they
decided to brake all the tradicional stereotypes associated with an SUV’s design. Normally, to show an SUV’s power
added or bolted-on elements were included (such as side steps, overfenders, etc.) However our model does just the
opposite, it shows the vehicle as a single large unied mass, portraying itself as an advanced 4WD.
The new Land Cruiser Prado mantains the Land Cruiser family’s characteristic exterior appearance, but with more modern details. This will make it popular with both current as well as rst-time buyers.

The new Land Cruiser Prado didn’t signicantly change its exterior dimensions when compared to the previous version,
which allows for it to maintain the same driving performance and maneuverability for which it has always been
known.
The Land Cruiser Prado, depending on the market, is available in either 3 or 5 door models. This oers a great deal of exibility for all types of consumers.

As optional equipment, the vehicle may come
equipped with rain sensing windshield wipers. This
uses a sensor placed on the front glass which
detects rain intensity and ajusts both the speed
and the delay of the wipers.
Another option which is
available depending on the
model are the front fog and
driving lamps. These fog lamps
have a wider projection than
conventional fog lamps, which
oers a better view of the road
ahead.
Depending on the grade level, the LC Prado will
come equipped with one of 3 front grilles. The
TX grade comes equipped with a black grille, to
emphasize its simplicity and power. The TX-L
and VX grades come with a chrome/body color
combination front grille, and the VX-L model
comes with a metallic paint and chrome
combination grille.
The front headlamps on the Prado are comprised of 3 spheres, which oer a modern look and improve the driver’s visibility.
As optional equipment, HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps are oered for the low beam. HID lamps shine brighter
than conventional halogen bulb headlamps, consume less electricity and have a longer life. Vehicles with HID headlamps
also come with AFS, or Adaptive Front-Lighting System. This system turns the headlamps into a curve at low and medium
speeds, and always maintain the same height regardless of driving conditions. Both systems help reduce the possibility of
accidents in dark driving conditions.

vehicle. In higher grade levels, there is a possibility to equip the
Prado with lighted side steps. When compared to other models,
the Prado oers both upper and lower lighting, which allows for
greater safety at night.
All three models come with alloy wheels, but with dierent
designs (the VX & VX-L grade levels share the same wheel design),
oering an element of distinction between dierent consumers
of the Land Cruiser Prado.
TX & TX-L grade models are equipped with 17
inch wheels, the TX grade coming with 245/70
R17 tires and the TX-L using wider 265/26 R 17

The rear view of the Land Cruiser Prado emulates the Land Cruiser 200 Station Wagon (200 Series). It’s rear pillar and
bumper have a chiseled look, which convey a greater feeling of strength. The license plate garnish is chrome colores,
which is reminiscent of the Land Cruiser family.
Depending on the market, the Land Cruiser Prado
can come equipped with a spare tire either on the
rear gate - for a more o-road look - or below the
chassis - more characteristic of a luxury urban SUV.
Following Toyota’s latest trends, the Land Cruiser Prado’s rear lamps are LED type as standard equipment. This assures
greater visibility and durability, which increases safety and reduces the chances of a rear end collision. LED bulbs are
also used on the high mount stop lamp found on the rear spoiler.
Optional equipment are rear g lamps included in the

Depemding on the model, the LC Prado can come in 5, 7 or 9 seat
congurations. This gives the vehicle maximum adaptability for nearly any
use.
The majority of the Land Cruiser Prados sold in our region will be 5 door
models, and most of these will come equipped with 3rd row seats. Now, the
third row seat is not only used for small children, but also for smaller adults.
This is accomplished in part to the greater legroom available for the third
row passengers, thanks to a second row sliding mechanism which allows for
the seat to slide up to 135mm.
The third row seat backs are thinner than previous generations but even
more comfortable, which allow for more cargo room when the 3rd row seats
are in use. It is also easier to use compared to the previous generation, due
to its store-at function. This allows for the 3rd row seat to completely store
itself below the cargo oor, maximizing available cargo room. In the VX
grade level, optional equipment include power 3rd row seat operation
(using switches rear portion of the vehicle).
For the VX-L grade level this is standard equipment.
The LC Prado is full of comfort and convenience feature for both the drive and
the passengers. For the driver, a knee pillow is found on the center console. This
helps the driver to avoid bumps and bruises on his/her lower leg during o-road
driving. In addition, the second and thrid row seats come with comfortable
armrests, making any trip an enjoyable one. And endless array of storage
compartments, including a sunglass holder and a conversation mirror - the latter
allowing the driver to hold a conversation with the rear passengers without
having to turn around - are standard
equipment.

The instrument panel maintains the elegence of the previous
generation Land Cruiser Prado, but oering distinctive elements
according to grade level. For the TX and TX-L grades the instrument
panel is black, for the VX silver trim is added and the VX-L grade level
metallic and wood grain trim is added. Select models will feature an Optitron instrument cluster for improved
visibility.
In addition to the conventional instrument panel, the Prado comes equipped
with a Multi Information Display computer, which allows for the driver to select
and control dierent vehicle functions from a single place. Using a joystick on
the steering wheel, the driver can select and control dierent features such as:
driving information display, selecting and
controlling dierent electronic driving systems, etc.
Available as an option on certain models, the LC Prado can come equipped with an ECO driving indicator. This system
will tell the driver when he/she is driving in such a way which is friendly to the environment, by displaying a leaf with the
word ECO on the instrument panel. Under strong acceleration, this indicator will shut o, telling the driver he/she is not
being eco-friendly. This way, drivers will learn to modify their driving habits to reduce their fuel consumption and
produce less tailpipe emissions.
Optional in certain models, the Steering Angle Display allows for the driver to see the
position of the front wheels, ideal for o-road driving. The Multi-Information Display (shown
here in the blue graphic) shows the wheel position in one of 7 positions, allowing for the
driver to have greater control over his/her vehicle and avoiding a potential accident. If the
Prado comes equipped with a front camera, the steering wheel angle will be slown on the
screen in the center instrument panel.

In models with 1GR-FE or 1KD-FTV engines, the Smart Entry & Smart Start option is available. The system oers a great level of comfort for users upon entering, exiting and starting the vehicle.
The driver has an electronic key (FOB) and when he/she comes within less than 1 meter (3 feet) of the front doors or rear gate, the Smart Entry system detects the FOB and enters ready mode. The driver by simply gripping a front door handle or pressing a button on the rear gate, opens the locks on all 5 doors. This allows for the driver to easily open the vehicle’s doors without having to manipulate a key.
The vehicle detects the presence of the FOB within the cabin and by pressing the brake pedal (for manual transmissions the clutch must also be pressed) in combination with the Engine Start button on the center instrument cluster, the vehicle engine will start. To turn o the engine, the transmission must be placed in P (automatic) or neutral (manual) and the Engine Start button pressed. If the Engine Start button is pressed withouth the brake pedal, the vehicle will enter accessory (ACC) mode to use cabin amenities such as the audio system.
Upon exiting the vehicle, by pressing a sensor on one of the front door handles or a button on the rear gate, the vehicle will automatically close the locks on all 5 doors. However, if the vehicle detects that the FOB is still within the vehicle, it will not lock the doors, allowing the driver to avoid accidentally locking the key within the vehicle.
The Prado can come equipped with a large variety of options to keep both passengers and beverages cool. The Prado can come with climate controlled A/C in 1, 2 or 3 zones (the 3 zone option includes an independent A/C compressor for the rear), with either automatic (climate control) or manual functions. If a model with a single zone A/C is selected, the center console comes
equipped with vents on the rear to cool passengers in the second row. A total of 25 aire ducts spread amongst all three rows assures good airow distribution within the cabin.

In addition to controlling passenger temperature, you can also control beverage temperature. As optional equipment, a beverage cooler or Cool Box is available. Located below the front armrest (center console), it allows you to cool beverages, ideal for longer trips in warm weather. Standard equipment in most 5 door Prado models is a cooling box, which cools beverages through an air duct found below the center console armrest.

Depending on the version and grade level, the Prado can come equipped with one of four engines.
Available in all four grade levels, this is one of Toyota’s most acclaimed engines in its SUV lineup. The 4 liter (4000 c.c.) V6 24-valve powerplant has received an impressive improvment in comparison to its previous version. For the rst time in our market this engine now comes equipped with Dual VVT-i.Conventional VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) optimizes admission valve intake timing. Now with DUal VVT-i, a synchronization controller is added to the escape valves. The result is an increase of more than 10$ in engine output, greater fuel economy and less emissions than the previous engine with single VVT-i technology.
As with the 1GR-FE, this engine is also available for all four Prado grade levels. This is the rst Turbo Diesel Intercooler engine developed by Toyota for use in our market. It uses advanced technology in its components, such as:
Variable Nozzle Turbo (VNT), common rail and direct ignition for its ignition systems, which all contribute to oer superior performance. This engine is also found in select models of the Hilux Pickup and Fortuner SUV.
Variable Nozzle Turbo - Dierent from conventional turbochargers, the VNT turbocharger in the 1KD-FTV engine adjusts the nozzle vane position on the exhaust side according to engine RPM, which allows for the turbocharger to deliver excellent performance at both low and high RPMs. The key benet oered with this system is that it reduces low engine speed “turbo lag”, and maximizes performance at any RPM range.
Common Rail - in a common rail system, the conventional fuel pump and hoses are replaced by a high pression (300 to 500 times greater than a conventional fuel pump) This is delivered to the fuel injectors not through fuel hoses, but through a single (common) rail. In addition, the air and fuel are not combined within a pre-chamber (an area found outside of the engine cylinder), but rather in the cylinder itself.
The advantage of both systems is that they allow for a more precise aire-fuel mixture, oering better performance with more fuel economy and less tailpipe emissions.

Standard equipment in every Prado (except for those equipped with 5L-E engines), Vehicle Stability Control regulates acceleration and braking force on every wheel when upon
turning it detects the beginning of oversteer or understeer.
Models with 1GR-FE and 1KD-FTV engines have Active Traction Control (A-TRC) standard. A-TRC regulates brake pressure during o-road driving, helping distribute engine torque which would otherwise be lost to the wheels with the most traction.
For Land Cruiser Prados with the 2TR-FE engine, Traction Control, or TRC, is standard equipment. Traction Control helps prevent wheelspin when accelerating on slippery surfaces by limiting engine power and applying the brake independently to each wheel.
SAFETYThe Land Cruiser Prado oers a complete package of state of the art safety features for our users.
Active SafetyAnti-lock brakes (ABS) – Every Land Cruiser Prado comes equipped with ABS as standard. ABS brakes detect when wheels slip during braking and individually control brake force on each wheel. For Land Cruiser Prados with 1GR-FE or 1KD-FTV engines and automatic transmissions, an additional option of Multi-Terrain ABS is available. This system detects terrain conditions based on engine response, acceleration and vehicle speed and adjusts the eect of the ABS system, optimizing it for any surface. This only works with Multi-Terrain Select activated.
Standard in every Land Cruiser Prado, Brake Assist applies increased brake force if it detects that the brake has been applied suddenly, helping the vehicle stop during emergency situations in less distance.
Part of the anti-lock brake system, EBD optimizes the brake force applied between the front and rear wheels according to driving conditions and payload distribution.
For vehicles with 1GR-FE or 1KD-FTV and automatic transmissions, HAC is oered as standard equipment. HAC, or Hill-start Assist Control prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards when starting o and releasing the brake pedal while going uphill. The system automatically applies the brake for approximately ve seconds, allowing the driver enough time to release the brake and apply the throttle.
DAC, or Downhill Assist Control automatically controls braking force during descents, avoiding loss of traction and wheelspin. DAC is found on every vehicle equipped with HAC, except for those equipped with Multi Terrain Select.
