1 representative per business. Buyers will be restricted to allow Social distancing – wear a face mask

and 2m between each buyer. Buyers must sanitise on entry to the market, on exiting and whenever

double up and buy for multiple clients. Any buyer who does not actually secure a purchase MUST

UTM STEERS (22) Max. 223p/kg & £1604 Headlining the day was a corking entry of South Devons from Messrs DO Webb which saw steers race to 217.50p/kg or a whopping £1604, with others to £1487. A superb team of Blues from Edward & Rob Lessey stole the show to see them to 223p/kg, 222.50p/kg, 221.50p/kg, 221p/kg and 220p/kg twice or £1505, £1495, £1485, £1480, £1461 and £1450. 3 tremendous grass fed Shorthorns from the Ashwin family flew to 222p/kg and 219p/kg or £1369 and £1357. A wonderful run of Angus from G & RG Adams sold marvellously well to 222.50p/kg and 215.50p/kg or £1439 and £1314. A corking Friesian from the Yandle family roared to 197.50p/kg or £1311. Herefords from SR Gibbons sold well to 205.50p/kg or £1224, Charolais from the Coward Brothers a marvellous sell to 214.50p/kg and 212.50p/kg or £1345 and £1304.

UTM HEIFERS (16) Max. 232p/kg & £1468 Tighter numbers but still what a trade here at Frome, with selling live paying dividends. Top of the draw 2 belting Blue heifers from the Yandle family racing to 232p/kg and 219.50p/kg or £1468 and £1426. Good to see the Sussex express roll into Frome, picking up Forest cattle en-route with Cowdray Home Farms presenting a marvellous run of Angus heifers flying to £1425, £1368, £1309 or 213.50p/kg, 211.50p/kg and 209.50p/kg. Chasing hard behind was R & J Gregory with Angus to 220.50p/kg and 215.50p/kg or £1367 and £1206. Herefords again from R Adams sailed to 214.50p/kg or £1233 and £1229. A single Dairy bred feeding Limousin from G & RG Adams sold well to 201.50p/kg or £1162. Another soaring trade here at Frome. Please contact Charlie Coleman for all enquiries or a farm visit.

OTM PRIME CATTLE (13) Max. 217.50p/kg & £1307 Steady numbers here and again flying. Best heifers from CA AC Alvis with his

Angus to 195.50p/kg or £1267. A super run from Steve Gibbons saw him smash the

£2 per kilo mark to 217.50p/kg or £1307 for his Blue steers with his Friesians

roaring to 196.50p/kg, 193p/kg and 189.50p/kg or £1243, £1206 and £1200. The

Evans family’s Angus sold to 192.50p/kg o £1103. Keep them coming, they are

wanted!

Dairy types too hot to handle seeing first place to DH Masters & Son with his cow charging to 188.50p/kg or £1225. Close behind was the Knapp families excellent run to 156p/kg and 146p/kg or £1210 and £1192. A good thick example from the Wilkins family raced to 150.50p/kg or £1161. Quality British Friesians from KJ Withers stormed to 169.50p/kg or £962 for a light cow. The Wyatt’s heavier cow flew to 167p/kg or £1140. Plenty of out of parlour types forward most cruising past 110p/kg with very few less. Older Jersey and cross bred cows met a superb response selling to £559 for J Trott, impressive Brown Swiss from the Lawrence family sold well to 158.50p/kg and 154.50p/kg or £1044 and £982. Another run of Beef cows forward headlined by AT Garrett’s quality Angus cows topping to an impressive £1586 or 174.50p/kg, with others to £1073 and £1012 from R & R Hares. 2 tidy short legged Dexters from IM Hares flew away to 135.50p/kg or £532. The Garrett’s Hereford cow was chased hard to £1297 or 154.50p/kg with Dave Norman’s close behind to 150.50p/kg or £1295. Dave’s younger Stabiliser cow flew to 209.50p/kg or £1204. Simmental cows from Messrs R Hares raced away to £1180 or 158.50p/kg. South Devon from M Baker of Trowbridge speeded to 155p/kg. CULL EWES & RAMS (153) Max £170 A small entry of cull ewes forward which sold to a solid trade, but consisted of smaller ewes. Best ewes to £170 from Jamie’s Farm for some cracking Texel types. Best Suffolk ewes to £140. North Country mules to £120. Best rams to £130 from NB Parfitt of Bath. Don’t hold the ewes, get them cashed in. The trade is high and buyers are desperate to purchase the ewes in readiness of the forthcoming religious festival. More ewes needed each week.

Calved Heifers £2,100, £2,020 £2,000 (x 30)

Absolutely NO difficulty in selling fresh milk again today, with 5 calved heifers

hitting £2000 or more!

A good show of all fresh milk today with more top types on offer. First up were

DW & CE Jones with their usual high quality Holstein Heifers at £2,020 & £1,950

which were eagerly sought by a keen ring of bidders. New vendor R H Webb,

Langport, presented two quality heifers and were very easily sold; the first deep

bodied Holstein Friesian at £2,100 took top spot of the day, closely followed by

his more striking Friesian type heifer at £2,000. Brian Fielding again producing

two smart calved heifers off the Salisbury plain at £2,000 and £1,950. Good Blue

Roan Shorthorn x heifers from W L Baxandall produced good competitive bidding

to settle at £1,800. GM & AM Habershon saw their home bred fresh calved heifers

to a strong £1,850, while their 5th calved Friesian Holstein cows sold to a very firm

£1,250.

FAT PIGS Heavies to £138, £136 and £132 from P & T Reynolds of Chippenham. Others

to £136 from Norman Legge travelling down from Wales. A smart run of heavy

porkers forward from NJ Hiscox sold very well to £120. Boars much harder to

sell with a noticeable difference in value. Others to £121 from Mr Legge and

£100 from S & S Gould.

STORE PIGS 10w/o white stores to £34 and £33 twice from PB Weeks & Son. Younger

weaners to £21 from P Slade. Stronger stores to £44 from Nick Hiscox.

CULL SOWS AND BOARS Trade much better with a decent run of sows on offer. The best to £191 from S &

S Gould. Others to £180 and £170. Cull boars to £138 from Tom & Charlotte

Wheeler. Smaller sows to £135 from PB Weeks & Son, most £100+.

The UK and Australia have agreed the broad outlines of a free-trade

agreement. It is the UK's first

RESEARCH: COVID'S EFFECT ON YOUNG FARMERS' MENTAL HEALTH

A Master's student at the Royal Agricultural University is conducting a study into

the extent in which

Covid-19 has had an effect on young farmers ’mental health and wellbeing and

to establish the

key factors that have contributed to this impact, including the effectiveness of

available support

mechanisms. Participants would have to be between the ages of 18-35 and be

willing to participate

in a 40 min phone interview consisting of questions around this topic. To get

NATIVE BULLS TO £328/NATIVE HEIFERS TO £242 Demand for Native breeds continues to exceed expectations, smaller and medium sorts continue to sell for a premium. Angus bulls to £328 from the Masters family North Wooten, heifers to £230 from GE, CJ & CW Allward. Another wonderful run of Herefords from GC & HS Davys saw bulls to £292, heifers to £242 from C & P Milton.

FRIESIAN TO £125 Almost all sold to rear. Firm returns for all forward with British Friesians to £125, Holsteins to £92 and Norwegian Red to £155.

STEERS TO £1500 HEIFERS TO £1205 GRAZING COWS & BULLS What a trade for the grazing cows, a super run from Hickman & Loades saw

their Simmentals at £1100 and Herefords at an excellent £1040.Feeding Angus

x 10mo bulls were easily sold with plenty of bidders at £955 & £875. Young

Breeding Simmental Bulls 14mo were in demand at £1150.

YOUNG CONTINENTAL No problem in selling the younger stores again this week and with a few more

forward and plenty of grass the day was set to fly! Bidding was fast throughout

the sale both Dairy bred and suckler bred 8-12mo cattle saw huge demand. A

good consignment of Simmental x Dairy bred steers and heifers from Padfield &

Dyke saw trade to £700 for the steers and £635 for the heifers. Limousin steers

from the same home at £685. Super well bred suckler bred Simmental steers

13mo from N R Hitchins had a blistering trade at £945 and heifers at £842!! More

top-drawer Simmental steers from regular vendor R E Dury & Son whizzed along

to finally settle at £970 & £945, while their same age Simmental heifers topped

at £945. Limousin steers from the same vendor to £890. Steve Crossman again

supporting the sale with his strong boned Charolais steers which were all very

easily sold at premium levels £978 & £895. Few Blondes forward for this sale but

a wonderful 15mo steer from R J Goss & Son tipped the scales at £1030! Plenty

more younger Continentals were needed to day to meet the over demand which

was evident around the ring today.

FRIESIAN Demand for Friesians certainly increasing, top of the day was a storming run

from Roger Phillips & Son who saw his 30mo steers soar to £1245, £1125 and

£1080. Close behind was HJ & SH Weeden’s 33mo steer to £1235. Good to

see Evershot Farms here again whose usual quality goods roared to £900. A

real demand here Frome.

ANGUS Well……………what demand and trade! Hard to believe the un stoppable

demand for this breed at the moment. Quality needs to be good to get the

premiums but if you do “tick the boxes” (and plenty did today) you reaped the

rewards in some style! Scott Yorke & family kicked it off with their cracking 8mo

suckled steers and heifers at £840 & £760 respectively, then their 21mo steers

at £1170! Then came CF & AM Martin with a consignment of wonderfully grown

Angus steers, which saw 13mo at £1065, 17mo £1180 and 21mo at £1222!!

Some lovely well grown forward Dairy x Angus today, we saw entries from

Evershot farms, Rog & Jason Phillips, Roger Masters and P J Batstone all over

The crowning glory in the Angus went to Golden Valley this with their grand 25mo

steers at £1310! Thanks to all who sold this week, you were well rewarded! Don’t

forget our motto “sell live and thrive”.

HEREFORD Herefords of all grades forward today. Headlining the show was HJ & SH

Weeden with their 31mo steer roaring to £1500. Younger goods from the

Hawkins family a serious trade to £1022. A run of 15 – 16mo hard goods from

LKR Farms flew off the shelves to £750 and £688. Very few younger goods

here, but this said Neil & Will Glover’s 7mo heifers flew to £760 and £545. Good

to see WD & BP Rose’s 15mo heifers to £890. Trade again firing on all

cylinders yet again.

FORWARD CONTINENTAL A marvellous entry today with a trade to match. Top of the day a superb run of

quality Simmentals aged only 18 – 25mo charging to £1340, £1290 and £1170

for their steers. Roger Masters’ displayed a lovely Blue steer flying away to

£1220. The main run of the day come from Will “The Stag” Weaver and Michael

Weaver with a run of marvellously farmed 20mo Blue steers charged to £1120 3

times, Simmental steers to £1040, Limousin steers to £1080, Blue heifers to

£1070 and a beautiful Limousin heifer to £1190. Forward Galloways from

Hickman & Loades saw steers race to £975 and heifers to £785 (19mo). A

corking trade yet again, please do get your cattle here and make use of this

trade.
