WALTERS PEOPLE SALARY SURVEY 2017 | 3

INTRODUCTION

The Dutch labour market improved greatly last year. We saw hiring volumes rise continuously, with exponential growth in demand for candidates with specialist knowledge.

Walters People witnessed exciting growth across a wide range of areas. Firstly, we vastly expanded our teams and had the privilege of welcoming many highly talented recruitment consultants. Secondly, we improved the quality of our processes to ensure that every candidate that works through us is thoroughly tested and checked for two references. And thirdly, I am proud to announce the launch of Walters People Academy, our brand new e-learning platform. It enables our working candidates to further develop their skills and knowledge, so that they can be of maximum value to their current employer and at the same time progress their career. You can read more about the Walters People Academy on page 17.

Our annual survey on job market expectations (page 4) shows that both candidates and employers have a positive outlook for 2017. The majority of employees expect more job opportunities for their type of role and employers expectcontinuinggrowthinhiringlevels.Wecan’twaittohelpyoufindtheperfect match.

Secretarial & Management SupportEconomicgrowthin2016ledmanybusinessestoexpand, creating new opportunities for secretarialand management support professionals, a trend weexpect to see continue in 2017. Providing support tomanagers within an international environment requiresknowledge of various tools and systems, as well asbilingualormultilingualfluency.Professionalswiththis combination of skills will be highly sought-after,as will those with a Bachelor’s degree.

In 2017, hiring managers looking to attract andretainsecretarialandmanagementsupportstaffwillneed to focus on providing opportunities for careerdevelopment to secure the best talent. As demand outstrips supply for skilled secretarial and management support professionals, salaries are expected to increase.

ITDemandforITstaffshowedrapidgrowthin2016,withhighpotentialITgraduatesoftenlandingtheirfirstjobbeforetheyhadfinished their degree. Junior level professionals with one to two years’ experience and an MBO4 IT degreewill be highly sought-after in 2017.

Increased outsourcing of IT departments created high demandfromhostingcompaniesforservicedeskstaffin2016.However,wagesinoutsourcingcompanieswere traditionally below market rate and as a result turnover rates were high. We believe this createsopportunities for organisations recruiting in-houseITsupportstaffandthereforeexpectsalariestoincrease.In2017companiesareadvisedtooffertrainingand development programmes as these are highly valued by IT support professionals.

Supply ChainOrganisations are placing greater emphasis on achieving operational excellence through seamless and costefficientlogisticsprocesseswithoutcompromisingcustomerservice. However, experiencedprofessionalswho can contribute to setting up these high quality processesarescarce.Withorganisationsalsofindingit challenging to attract candidates with management potential and multilingual skills, we believe the market for experienced candidates will tighten further in 2017, resulting in continued growth in salaries for these professionals.
