“At SSRC we strive, through our relationship with Jesus Christ and with one another, to welcome all regardless of
race, marital status, or sexual orientation. We seek especially to accompany those on the margins of society, those who have fallen away, the lonely, and all of those
searching for the presence of God. As a community of believers we seek to grow in faith
through worship, grow in love through works of justice and mercy, and grow in hope that God may be glorified
in all.”

Divine Mercy
GOSPEL MEDITATION He has you in mind. Do we think about that much? The God of the universe has us in mind, individually as persons and together as one human family. We hear this truth in today's Gospel story of Thomas. His doubt is likely familiar to us by now. "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." Jesus is God. He could have risen any way he wanted. He could have risen perfectly healed, as a further sign of his power over death and suffering. But when Thomas encounters him, we see what Jesus chose. "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." In resurrecting his body, Jesus already has Thomas in mind. Jesus retains his wounds for Thomas, for the disciples, and for all who would doubt the sacrificial power of love. This intentional love of Jesus is echoed by John and his disciples, who authored this Gospel. "Jesus did many other signs...these are written that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ...and that through this belief you may have life in his name." From its earliest beginnings, the Church knew the power of sign and story. When they wrote the Gospels, they had us in mind. We are all Thomas from time to time. We need to see the mercy of God lived and real in our lives. This can happen throughout the circumstances of our daily comings and goings. It can also happen through meditating on the Scripture, through placing ourselves in the stories and listening to God's voice speaking. We don't get to see what the disciples got to see, but we know, through them, that God always has us in mind. As he reminds the disciples, "Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”
LIVE THE LITURGY Peace be with you! Of all of the things the resurrected Christ could have said, he chose this: Peace be with you! These calming words lessened the disciples' anxiety and gave them a wonderful sense of reassurance. Words have the power to do that. Jesus touches his friends with his breath and breathes his Spirit upon them. This intimate gesture of peace begins to alleviate the uncertainty and fear that no doubt consumed their thoughts and hearts. Words and gestures are so important in doing God's work. Even the simplest of greetings and actions can profoundly move people and direct them to God. On this Sunday of Divine Mercy, we are reminded that God's all-forgiving and merciful love comes to us through the risen Christ. By our words and actions, may we show that forgiveness and merciful love to others.

Sunday, April 28, 2019
I’m very excited as we get closer to First Communion. This week we will be rehearsing for our First Communion Mass. It is very important that all students attend all 3 rehearsals as this is when the students will learn the details for the Mass and practice the readings and songs within the Mass. Please see the time schedule below.
Our older students last Faith Formation class will take place on May 5th at 3:30. Please remember that 5:00 pm Mass is part of class time unless you have attended another Mass that weekend with your family. Students will receive registration forms for next year along with forms to volunteer to be Crew members for VBS. This is a great way for the older students to receive community service that they may need for their 2019-2020 school year. All students that volunteer will receive 30 hrs of community service hours.
First Communion Important Dates and Times
Rehearsal for First Communion will take place on April 30th, May 1 and May 2nd from 4:00pm to 5:00pm in the Church. It is very important that ALL students come to rehearsals on all three days as the children will be practicing what will happen during the Mass.
Any families that still needs a Banner Kit please see Mrs. Czepyha as soon as possible as they are due at the first rehearsal. These Banners are used to hold a pew for your family so if you do not return one a pew will not be reserved.
First Communion will take place on May 4th at 11:00am. Students should arrive by 9:30 if you plan to have their picture taken by Bob Fontaine otherwise please arrive no later than 10:00am as we will be taking a class photo and getting lined up.
Crowning of Mary May 12th 10:30 Mass Students are asked to wear their Communion attire as they Crown Mary. Students should arrive for Mass at 9:45 and meet in the church. Please let Mrs. Czepyha know by the first rehearsal if you plan to attend this Mass so flowers may be ordered.
Roar VBS! VBS will be held this year the week of July 15-19th from 9am- to 12pm. If any of our older youth want to volunteer as VBS staff, please contact Mrs. Czepyha. We are also looking for any adults who would like to help as well. Registration was given to students last weekend. If you need a copy of the registration you can find it on Facebook or in the Church Office. Early registration is $50 until May 30th and $60 after that and will be open for registration until June 17th. Any question contact Mrs. Czepyha at [email protected].
Students returned to school this week from Spring vacation. With the Spring comes many special events including our Eight Month Club Luncheon, Grandparents Day and First Communion just to name a few. As the luncheon is this Sunday at Valley Country Club this is the last week of the weekly drawing, I want to thank all those parishioners’ who purchased a membership and/or luncheon ticket. The Eight Month Club is our school’s largest fundraiser which our operational budget depends upon each academic year. On behalf of the students, faculty, staff, and families I want to thank you for your support.
Grandparents save the date- Friday, May 3rd is Grandparents Day at St. Rose of Lima School! We are changing the format and having grandparents
come to the parish hall first for Coffee N at 8:00am. We will celebrate Mass at 9:00am and then grandparents will be invited to the school to visit classes. Dismissal for pupils will be at noon from St. Rose of Lima School. This is sure to be a special day for students as well as grandparents. Our School Band will be playing music during Mass and our Chorus will be singing as usual! Of course, our Scholastic Bookfair will be opened on Grandparents Day and every day that week.
With our Scholastic Bookfair we celebrate Reading Week. We have several special events planned to celebrate literature and the joy of reading. We are fortunate at St. Rose to offer our students the Accelerated Reader program which allows parents and teachers to monitor their students/child’s(rens) independent reading. To learn more about this program or the other great things St. Rose has to offer contact the school at 739-6937 or email me at [email protected]
