Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
Question: Where do Palm Sunday palms come from and where should they go?
Answer: The Palm Sunday celebration has ancient origins. Beginning the liturgy “outside” the church, we symbolically reenact Christ’s entry into Jerusalem. The crowds in ancient Israel waved palm branches – a symbol of royalty – to welcome Jesus. These days, obtaining palms takes a lot of planning and coordination, as hundreds of thousands of churches worldwide need them on the same day! Many in the United States order palms from Florida, California, Texas, or Central America. Many companies stress the sustainability of their production and the just wages paid to their workers.
The palms used on Palm Sunday are blessed at Mass. This means they shouldn’t end up in the trash! Many people weave palms into crosses or families display them in their homes. If you do not plan on displaying your palms throughout the year, they should be burned, buried, or left at the church. In the final case, the palms are burned to provide the ashes for next year’s Ash Wednesday service.

Hello everyone! Our first official week of Faith Formation classes online went very well! Thank you to all those that responded to the question of the week. Please remember that your response to the question is considered your attendance for class.
This week I have provided you with the information that would have been presented in our family event Walk with Jesus. Walk with Jesus walks you through the events in Jesus’s life during his last week on earth from Palm Sunday up to Easter Sunday. I hope you take the time as a family to explore this information.
Confirmation students please remember that even though we are not able to meet in person you are still required to attend Mass by watching ALL the Masses that will be provided on Facebook or YouTube for Holy Week and Easter Sunday. You are also required to watch the Stations of the Cross and reflect on them for attendance. If you have any questions about this, please let me know.
I pray that we can all be together soon as a church family but until then I will continue to provide you with as much content as I can. May God watch over you all and keep you.
Yours in Christ Mrs. Rachael
As school is closed teachers have been executing a Distance Learning program from home. This approach requires a lot of planning time on their end as well as creativity. On-line schooling is running smoothly as a result, of faculty and parents partnering together along with the children. I want to thank teachers, parents, and pupils for their support during this difficult time.
As the COVID-19 pandemic has created a perilous situation many parents are finding themselves in a difficult financial position. So many workers have been laid off during this period. As a school we rely on tuition funds for our operational budget. I am appealing to the parishioners at this time for your support. If you are able to donate even a small amount to the school it will be used to help off-set tuition owed by families that are currently having a hard time making payments during this time. I know many of you may be in a difficult economic position, yourselves but if at all possible, please consider making a donation to your parish school by mailing a check to the school or parish office payable to St. Rose of Lima School. Your donation will be tax deductible and funds will go directly to helping those families that are trying to continue to give their child the gift of a Catholic education.
Thank you in advance or your continued support. Let’s pray for those suffering with the virus that they recover and also that our country returns to its normal routine soon.

Mother Teresa Outreach Ministry
The mission of the Mother Teresa Outreach Ministry is: “To be disciples of Jesus by using God’s gifts to graciously serve those in need – with dignity and without judgement – and effect change through action, advocacy and prayer.” We do this through Table of Plenty, our twice per month meal program, and Matthew’s Closet, offering gently-used clothing to our friends in need in Oakland Beach and West Warwick. This ministry has been entirely self-sustaining through the generous donations from our parishioners and local businesses.
At this time, we are not accepting any clothing for Matthew’s Closet until church services begin again. While we are grateful for your generosity, please do not drop off any clothing at this time. Our meal program is currently on stand-by as we await federal and state guidelines that would affect our next meal distribution. Our last meal, which was truly welcomed by our guests, was served as a ‘grab & go’ meal.
