My name is Jack Andrew Kelderhouse I am twenty two years old, I currently have my Associates degree
in Network Systems Administration from DeVry University. I transferred to Saint Xavier University in
2008 and I am currently a senior pursuing my Bachelors degree in Computer Studies with a concentration
in networking. I also have my A+ certication and Net+ certication and also trying to obtain my CCNA
certication, which has helped land me an internship, allowing me to work until I graduate. I currently have
been working at Family Harvest Church for over a year, which will allow me to graduate with t wo years
experience in my eld.

then follows the big tree, follow-
ing the back trees. Once done with
viewing the back trees, you go the
path, which is the lightest value in
the picture, then going to the lake,
then the sky which is the same
value.
Concept - In the monotone
picture, what I am trying to say
is that, this beautiful spot during
the day, is a great place to come
to during the day, but even later
in the day, it is still great to visit.
Choosing the dark green, and
different variations of green, it is
a good representation of what it is
like at night. The light color of thesky, bounces off the lake, giving
it a great color to the trees and
everything surrounding it.
Composition - The monotone
green picture that I created, I
believe is my best picture, because
despite being all monotone, I con-
trolled what the viewer is seeing.
First the viewer goes straight to
the dark bushes in the front grass,
Craft - In order to make a good
monotone picture, I chose a specic
hue green, and chose different varia-
tions of values. I chose to have the
front path and the grass surrounding
the lake the same hue, a li ght green.
In order to get the picture to form
correctly, I chose to have the trees
and bushes in the picture to be t he
same hue, a dark green. Similar tothe front grass and the surround-
ing grass around the lake being the
same hue, I decided to have the lake
and the sky the same color, a lighter
green, which allows the picture to
come together. Having a monotone
picture, is in my opinion the best
one I have created because although
there essentially the same values,
you can easily tell what each thing is
in the picture.
Variations

where you can sh, or exercise around the lake, which many
people tend to do. The light sky that i gave the picture, and
lighter greens in the trees, really showed what it is like to
visit this spot.
Composition - With all three pictures that i created, My
initial goal was to have the outline of the lake the main thing
that the viewer sees, but in t he picture the rst thing that the
viewer sees is the lake. The second thin taht the view sees is
the large tree on the l eft hand side that is the main attraction
of the picture. Lastly the viewer then follows all the back
trees, which circle around the lake, completing the picture.
Craft - The three drawings that i created, i rst started
off by taking the picture, then tacing the outline of the
the picture with the dot making tool. I then selected the
appropriate colors of the picture, by choosing the propercolor for the trees, sky, and grass. After creating my nal
picture, i then changed the pictures by editing the dif-
ferent brushes. For the trees i changed brush to a larger
brush size, and givin the trees in the background a smaller
brush size. For the second picture
Concept - What i tried to accomplish by creating this
picture, was to paint a nice place to go to in Tinley Park
Craft - After editing the original
picture, the changes i made started
to make the picture come together.
I added darkness to the biggest tree,
which actually allowed it to look like
a normal tree. Also I added shade of
the trees in the lake, which allowed
the trees to be better found in the
background, like the original picture.
Concept - The updated picture
means that this is a nice, quiet place
to come to sh, or jog during the
day. Also saying that this spot is not
crowded at all, which it should be
since, you have the ability to sh and
jog. I was unable to say that this par-
ticular spot is very lively, and very
nice to come to. I was unable to ac-
complish this because of the amount
of detail in the grass and tr ees, along
with unable to accomplish the proper
hue in the sky, giving it a very dull
look
Composition - Like the original
picture, your eye is drawn to t he big-
gest tree on the left hand side, along
with the lake. This is what i was able
to do with the picture, your eye is
drawn to the tree, then t he lake, and
Tinley Park
then allows you to follow the path
and the shrubs in the front. I was
unable to accomplish the viewers
eye going into the sky with slight
sunlight, which is a key concept of
the picture.

Craft - I am becoming more comfortable
drawing with the pen on illustrator. At
rst it was very difcult because I was
not use to drawing without looking at my
hand and the drawing at the same time.
When I use the pen I have to look at the
screen and I never look down. I just kept
moving from one end to another to nally
nd the place I wanted to make the mark
on the document in illustrator. Another
part that I had to get use to was drawing
with out an outline of the image I was
about to draw. Usually when I draw on
paper I sketch out the picture by outlining
it and the adding details as I go. I was a
little frustrating but I got use to it. All the
exercises where very helpful.
Concept - The concept for this image
was trying to replicate the object without
tracing it but letting small lines form it.
The color had to be in one color. I had to
give it a background rather then just leaveit oating in space. It was an in class
exercise.
I was only allowed to use one color and
and three other values of the same color.
My goal was to replicate the image but
change the color and give it texture with
the use of small lines. That one object
was the focus of the entire image.
The rst thing I did was make t he back-
ground gray and lock that layer in my lay-
ers window. Next, I chose the color blue
and all the shades of blue I was going to
use. After I had all that done I began the
image by laying down all the dark values.
I worked from the top to the bottom and
once I had all the dark values then I added
all the light values. I then began adding
all the intermediate tones. While I was
doing all this every time I used a different
tone I made a new l ayer and locked the
one I had just been working on. I contin-
ued to layer one tone after the other until
I was happy with the result. I was running
out of time and I ended the image by giv-
ing a suggestion of the back ground andgiving the object a shadow. I did not want
the image oating in space.
I have been in catholic schools all my life and in 2009 I graduated
from Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School. My experience in
McAuley was life changing because in my sophomore year I dis-
covered my passion for art. In my senior year I took AP Studio Art
and I think that was one of my most challenging projects, but I am
proud of the work I accomplished by the end of the year. McAu-
ley prepared me very well academically while helping achieve my
goals. Now, in my second year of college I feel li ke I have made the
transition from high school to collage rather smoothly. My major is
Business Administration with a minor in Art. I would like to pursue a
career in event planning or open a restaurant. Computer graphics is a
whole new world for me, but I am looking forward to create art in awhole new way!

Craft - This weeks project, I made drawings of teapots in
Adobe Illustrator. Instead of using the mouse in Adobe Il-
lustrator, I used the pen, so I drew teapots by hand. While
making the teapots, I used a specic technique where I
would only use dashes from left to right, or up and down,
drawing the outline of the teapot, and using dashes to-
gether, to represent the darker portions of teapot.
Concept - What i was trying to establish i the picture,
was to represent a teapot, sitting on top of a white t able.
Since the item i was drawing was metal, i tried to estab-
lish the light that reected off of the teapot, which was a
major part, in trying to establish the whole picture.
Composition - In this specic picture that I created,
was a teapot. What I tried to establish in the picture is a
teapot on top of a computer desk. In the teapot picture,
i tried to control the eye of the viewer to focus on the
handle of the teapot, but because it was done in the
dash form, the viewers eye focuses on the outside of the
teapot, instead of the handle, which is the darkest spot in
the picture.

My name is Moses Arce. I am currently a junior at Saint Xavier University. I had to make a very tough
decision when it came to choosing which university will best meet my needs. Saint Xavier University has
an excellent student to teacher ratio. This ratio makes it possible for my teachers to help me when I ever I
need it. I am taking Computer Graphics because it is part of my core requirements for my major which is
accounting. With my accounting degree I want to work with the government or The Central Intelligence
Agency to be a forensic accountant. If I am able to become a forensic accountant, then I can help many of
the corporations that are committing false income statement and tax returns.Craft - In Adobe Illustrator I was using dif-
ferent tools to change for each of the three il-
lustrator . I used the eyedropper tool to adject
the different colors in the photos. Also I useddifferent size strokes for the building and
windows and used different color hue to bring
out different variations of the photos.
Concept - I changed the picture from
day time to night time. By changing the
sky color and making all the windows
on the building black. I was also tryingto make one of the windows stand out
in the illustration by having a darker
and thicker stroke to make the yel-

low appear more in the il lustrat
The last photo I tried to represe
school colors and tried to just u
the three colors. I tried to use dstroke and thickness size in the
to make different objects stand
the photo.

So my rst blog is supposed to be about my academic
life... well what can I say about it? Other than the fact that
SXU is my life, i t's not only in the eld of Academics. I'm
an above average student majoring in Marketing. I've al-
ways been fascinated with the idea of marketing products.
Another interest of mine has been computers- everything
about them. So why not take a computer graphing class
to increase my knowledge and skills and hopefully let me
branch into various jobs within the marketing eld. Other
than my love for marketing, I'm well organized (when
I want to be) and a hard worker. My goal for this year(my senior year!) is to make and take the most out of it,
whether it is inside or outside the classroom. Even tho I
might not be all of these characteristics within my aca-
demic studies, I believe it is only because I use the skills I
learn in class outside of the classroom... But isn't that what
you're supposed to do?
Craft - This drawing was created in Illustrator using the pen tablet. The program allows the user to adjust the
setting to brush and then create marks as in relationship to drawing a picture with pen and paper. You are able to
adjust the stroke of the brush (pen) by making it larger in width or smaller. For this illustration I left the stroke
at 1 pt and continued to draw over various lines to make the darker shades. With this il lustration it was meant to
display the light that is displayed while looking to the image.Concept - This picture is of a teapot. The teapot is reective, which means alot of light is being displayed on th
pot making it have more white than black.
Composition - The viewer is drawn to l ook at the white in the middle of the lower half to see what represents
the reective on the teapot

I'm a freshman and majoring in Nursing. I stayed focus in class and
participated in class discussion. When its time for group project I al-
ways do my part. I have a strong belief that business comes before fun.
I'm a person who set goals and always work hard to accomplishment
them.
This week we learned how to draw on Adobe Illustrator without having to use the mouse, it is called the pen tablet. It m
drawing so much easier on the program. We learned how to use the paint brush tool beacuse that what we will be using
most to draw. We start making lines so we can get use to using the program. Then we started to draw teapots. As we ke
drawing teapots, there was different task for each one. One was just draw the lights and the next was just draw the dar
Drawing the lights was hard for me because if I had a teapot that was dark, I didn't see any lights.

Craft - I created these pictures
digitally through the computer. I
used various brush strokes, meaning
different size brushes and different
thicknesses. I also used various col-
ors and different lines to create these
images. By making the brush stoke
thicker, it makes the lines appear
more bold and bigger. By creat-
ing differnt strokes of lines right on
top of each other, it also makes that
section of the image more dense to
show more darkness in that particu-
lar area.
Concept - The whole picture can
change by the way the artist changes
teh colors throughout the image. For
example, by making a certain section
more dense than another, it can tell
the viewer how the artist portrained
the object when it was drawn. For
example, how much light was hit-
ting the object at that time. You
can also change the focal points
of the object being drawn as well
by adding bright colors or making
something more dense. To create
these images, I made the darker
parts of the object more dense and
the lighter parts I made dense with
white colored strokes. Every image
has a different meaning to every
viewer.
Compostition - For the middle
image, the coffee mug, my eyes
saw differnt shades of lightness and
darkness throughout the mug which
depended on the amount of light
was directed onto the mug. Also,
it depended on what angle the light
My name is Gina Keleher. I am a sophmore at Saint Xavier. I plan on majoring in nursing and
minoring in pshychology. I came into the school as an undecided major, but after thinking about
it I nally decided that I wanted to become a nurse to be able to help patients. I try my best at
everything I do and I don't give up, no matter how hard something might be. I am a hard worker
and try my best to get the best grades I can get in each class. That's about it!
was being shown onto the mug as
well. I saw the various shadows
that the light created as well and
made them appear in the drawing
too. By drawing the various shad
ows, I created an image that can
have a differnt meaning for every
viewer that looks at it.

This week we worked more on lights and darks
with xed settings which really opened me up to
seeing what true darks and lights are, and what
is in between. For all of these I gradually got use
to using lights and darks and learned what was
in the gray area in my last picture to portrait the
real image not through an outline but through
its shading. The craft of these photos is just amixture of going between vertical lines and
horizontal lines, just switching in between each
piece of work I created. Some of my works only
contained vertical lines and some only portrait
horizontal lines which really opened my
perspective to what each line can do for a
picture to add more accuracy and exact-
ness when you combine them together in
one picture along with diagonal lines as
well. The concept of these images to me is
a greater experience of the lights and darks
which shows you more of the dark sideand the light side to them, with very little
middle ground that I displayed in most of
these besides the last few I see more of a
darkness in the images.
My name is Kevin Jarzabkowski. I graduated from Oak Lawn Com-
munity High School in 2009. I am now in my second year of attend-
ing Saint Xavier University and I am undecided on my major at this
point but I am in between either History or Political Science.

This week we started our new project. We were introduced to the pen
tool. To learn to use the pen tool, we did alot of warm up activities. Our
rst warm up for the pen tool was drawing teapots.
In these two rst teapots we started with a black backround. Then we
took the paint brush and made it white. We rst drew all the parts of what we saw that was bright t hen everything that was drak came on its
own.
Hi! My name is Amy. I am a nursing major. Im not sure yet
what I want to minor in but im thinking about business or
spanish. I have previously taked 5 college classes with over
20 college credits. I am currently t aking 17 credit hours.
I am super excited to be in this computer design class. I
decided to take it not only because I needed a liberal art
credit but because it sounded like alot of fun. I also though
it could be useful in future job situations. I am hoping to
learn alot of new things from this class. Well thats all for
now!
