Third Sunday in Ordinary Time January 21, 2018

FOCUS: Let us heed God’s call.

How many times do we have to stumble and fall before we realize that following God’s ways, and not our own, leads to happiness and salvation? Let us not resist the Lord, but answer his call.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first read-ing, the reluctant prophet Jonah gets a quick re-sponse today from the people of Nineveh. Saint Paul speaks with urgency telling the Corinthians that time is running out. Jesus begins his ministry by calling four Apostles—changing the direction of their lives. REFLECTION: We hear Jesus’ invitation, "Come follow me," each day, as life presents us with choices. Shall we forgive when asked? Shall we help someone in need? Shall we buy less for ourselves and give more to the poor? Shall we see the injustice or turn a blind eye? In these, and so many other occasions, we hear the same invi-tation Jesus made to those fishermen and, like them, we put other considerations aside to follow him. So I ask myself:

• What recent choices have I made that show my desire to follow Christ?

• What changes do I have to make in my life to follow him more fully?

TERCER DOMINGO TIEMPO ORDINARIO Enero 21, 2018
