PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Saint Michael the Archangel Church is a multi-cultural Roman Catholic community seeking to live the faith hon- estly with courage, warmth, trust, love and hope. We are united together in fellowship as a family. The guiding spirit of Christ enables us to serve the needs of others, thereby leading to peace. OUR CHRISTIAN LOVE Ash Wednesday is “fast” approaching (sorry, couldn’t help it), on February 26. Mass, with distribution of ashes, will take place at 9:00am, 12:00pm, and 7:00pm. Easter Sunday will be April 12, with the liturgies of Holy Week preceding: Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday at 7:00pm, Good Friday Stations of the Cross at 1:00pm and celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 3:00pm, and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday at 8:00pm. We’ll repeat the schedule as the time approaches. Next weekend, a priest from Food for the Poor will come and speak to us at the Masses in order to raise money for their good work. Please be as generous as you can. Beginning the weekend of March 1, we will be using a different company for our weekly tithing envelopes, the Cathedral Corporation. The new service promises to be more cost-effective and efficient. Your envelope numbers will remain the same. At that time, even if you still have envelopes from the Remey company (currently in place), please use the new envelopes. If, for some reason, you do not receive the new envelopes, please let us know in the office. For the past few Sundays, we have been hearing from Our Lord’s Sermon on the Mount, as recorded in Matthew 5–7. The celebration of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2 took the place of our hearing the Beatitudes, but last Sunday we hear that we are the salt and light of the world. This Sunday, we begin to hear Jesus’ teaching on the law, in general and then specifically about anger, adultery, divorce, and oath-taking. Here, our Lord Jesus takes into the heart of the law. He imparts to us wisdom about the law. The law is not a simple matter of making lists about do’s and don’t’s, things that we could change if we wanted (to “keep up with the times,” for example). Rather, Jesus shows us that the law flows from God’s own eternal wisdom (a “mysterious, hidden” wisdom as St. Paul tells us today), the wisdom with which he created us and put the universe in order. Jesus cannot abolish the law because he wrote it. He fulfills it by revealing to us, through his teaching and his passion, death, and resurrection, the depths of the law’s wisdom, which is summoned up in the definition of God himself as love (1 Jn 4:8). PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

Saint Michael the Archangel Church is a multi-cultural Roman Catholic community seeking to live the faith hon-estly with courage, warmth, trust, love and hope. We are united together in fellowship as a family. The guiding

spirit of Christ enables us to serve the needs of others, thereby leading to peace.

OUR CHRISTIAN LOVE

Ash Wednesday is “fast” approaching (sorry, couldn’t help it), on February 26.
